  1. One year we were behind in points, but the other year we actually were ahead. However, we were ahead due to a blowout of the third team in the tie (Central, I think), and the point cap (17?) put us back behind.
  2. It would be cool. It won't happen. I can't see LaMarque, Texas City and Yates all falling.
  3. Matt Bryant played for Bridge City.
  4. True, but nobody in this district came anywhere close to doing what Mosely did last year. He had double the yards that any current rusher had and almost double the touchdowns. There is usually one such player in our area every two or three years (Mosely, Beasley, Charles)
  5. It's so subjective, but my input would be: Dayton QB Charles should be the all-district QB. Though Bellow had more yardage and one more TD, Charles did it in just six games. Conceivably, Dayton would have been undefeated with Charles in at QB - at least in district. He also had only ONE INTERCEPTION AND 18 TDS, as compared to 9 picks and 19 TDs by Bellow. Those are really the only two legit QB candidates. Hussey should get a first-team RB spot as he led the district in rushing. Cardenas, Dugat and Powell are the odds-on favorites for WR, as no one else really came close. I expect a ton of Dayton defenders on the list, as they had by far the most dominating defense in the district - posting FOUR shutouts in their last six games and only allowing an average of 4 points per game in district.
  6. I'm sure they will move the ball and probably score, but they haven't played a team of WO-S's caliber this year. Diboll isn't a bad team by any means, but they have given up 56 to Carthage, 44 to Coldspring, 28 to Crockett, and 34 to Center. The total points against for those four games is 162. WO-S has given up only 83 in 10 games - not to mention the fact that they did it against a much tougher district and three 4A teams - one of which won its district. If you stretched out Diboll's last four games of points allowed over a 10-game stretch, they'd still give up almost twice as many points per game as WO-S. More directly, Coldspring has given up 284 points - 201 more than the Mustangs. Coldspring has scored 336 points as compared to 349 by WO-S. Average score for WO-S this year: 40-8 Average score for Coldspring: 34-28 Yes, anything can happen. I hope my Stangs don't go into Dayton thinking about Giddings, because there will be trouble. But if they stay focused, like they almost always do, I expect it to be over by mid-third quarter. I hope everyone has a safe trip, and I'm looking forward to a fun game!
  7. Smiley is traditionally a cupcake team. Then again, so is Lumberton. Maybe Smiley is different this year, but I'm guessing Lumberton should advance to round two. If they meet LaMarque there, they'll have to really earn a third game.
  8. They won one game (against 2-8 Kashmere).
  9. Aren't we always against your hapless Cards? Nice calling me the same name I called you (twice). Very clever. Take your chances with 01 and 02. You'd have lost them both. I see your Peebles, and I raise you a Kerry Franks (who was at WO-S at the time and is starting at A&M now). I love how we're arguing about hypothetical past games that will never happen, because it means you have no actual games to base anything on. Punkin.
  10. Honestly, I'm not even familiar with those names. Sad that you are. Accuse if you will, but we at least have a clean record when it comes to that stuff - as perfect as our record vs. BC.
  11. Yikes. It's scary to think of Gary falling 8-10 feet! Totally good-natured ribbing of our buddies at OF.
  12. Tommy Chavis of WO-S is also tearing it up at Mizzou.
  13. Uh, no. We would have won all three of those years, too. We went to 4A state (15-1) in 2000, punkin. That included wins over LaMarque, Calallen, Friendswood and Jasper - not to mention Nederland, PN-G, and eventual 4A DI state champ Bay City (their only loss). BC had three losses in 2001, including one to Vidor, and two losses in 02. We had two losses each year playing much tougher competition. Consider yourselves lucky that it's just 18-0 and not 21-0.
  14. Forgot who I was dealing with. Perhaps I should have said "a program" instead of "a team." Let me just lay this out for you: 1986: 28-7 WO-S 1987: 35-0 WO-S 1988: 20-0 WO-S 1989: 57-7 WO-S 1990: 65-15 WO-S 1991: 42-14 WO-S 1992: 54-7 WO-S 1993: 34-14 WO-S 1994: 48-7 WO-S 1995: 48-0 WO-S 1996: 24-21 WO-S 1997: 60-7 WO-S 1998: 27-6 WO-S 1999: 35-0 WO-S 2004: 27-21 WO-S 2005: 41-34 WO-S 2006: 40-6 WO-S 2007: 73-0 WO-S That's 18 times. We've won 18 of those 18 times, most of them by an embarrassing margin. That's what I meant.
  15. This is coming from a team that has never beaten us in about 20 tries. You'll understand if we fail to see much credibility in your wisdom.
  16. Let me be perfectly honest here, pulling no punches. Get offended and kill my karma if you'd like, but all I'm doing is telling the truth. 73 was the fewest amount of points we COULD HAVE scored. Did you not notice that we agreed to a "running clock" in the fourth quarter? You gave up a TD to a linebacker playing at RB AND A 17-yard TD run by a DEFENSIVE LINEMAN PLAYING QB! Besides, Bridge City wasn't asking for mercy. They were throwing passes on fourth down from the first quarter to the fourth. That's called "guerrilla ball" where I come from, and it means all bets are off, play hard until the other guy quits or the clock makes you stop scoring. We are going to face some tough teams in the weeks to come, and we need our guys to stay sharp. It's not our job to not embarrass the cards (bless their hearts). It's THEIR JOB to stop us - not ours. I never saw a towel come out on the field. We can't help who we have to play. If we'd had the option of playing Jasper or Silsbee or someone else to help us sharpen up before the postseason, there's no doubt in my mind we would have. Instead, we played who was scheduled. As far as the people saying you'll "be back," just remember that "back" still means winless against us.
  17. Diboll got whalloped by Carthage last night in a high-scoring one.
  18. And even if it is... and even if it was our ONLY win... It would be one more than you had all year. But GOOD NEWS! Most of the WO-S (and Silsbee, Jasper) players are back next year. Good luck with that "rebuilding."
  19. Noted. Frankly, I could give a crap.
  20. It's a violation of UIL rules, and it was 15 minutes long, not a few. The players for both teams stood there in smoky blow-up run-throughs for 15-20 minutes. Even the refs thought it was a wrong. Only our coaches kept BC from having a penalty - like having to forfei... uh... Oh, I get it.
  21. Half-Time Regulations The NCAAFootball Rules specify a penalty be assessed to the home team at the beginning of the second half if the half-time exceeds allowable limits. Texas high schools play by NCAA rules, therefore the half-time length regulations will be enforced by football officials. 1. Maximum half-time length for UIL varsity games is 28 minutes. Please note that half-time is not required to be this long. Many districts have adopted a shorter period of time, for example 24 minutes. Note: Junior high and sub-varsity half-time should not be longer than 20 minutes. 2. Timing for the half-time should begin when all players and personnel have cleared the field at the end of the first half of play. 3. Bands should be ready at that time to come onto the field for their half-time show. Undue delay by the visiting team band could result in a penalty being assessed to the home school. Many schools are placing a time limit on each band, insuring that the first part of the half-time intermission will not cause the entire half-time to exceed the allotted time limit. 4. Football teams should have at least 3-4 minutes to warm up after the half-time intermission prior to the second-half kickoff.
  22. Obviously anything can happen, but Coldspring just lost back-to-back games against Splendora (who was spanked by both HF) and Cleveland (who is one of HJ's only two wins). I realize that you can't predict a game by common opponents, but you can at least consider that they lost to a team (HJ) that we beat by 64.
  23. Yup. The refs waived the "time out" signal to the booth and started to huddle, but our coaches called them off. The halftime went about 15 minutes or so longer than the allotted time - after the clock had hit zero.
  24. How will the playing field be any more "level?" The team that won 73-0 tonight is a VERY YOUNG team that will be much better next year as well.
