By saying "fourth string," he means players playing way out of position - like LBs playing RB and DBs stepping in at QB. We ran at least five or six people at RB against HJ.
-
Now that I think about it, it's pretty funny. "Who can we call for advice on how to beat WO-S? ORANGEFIELD!" I wouldn't doubt they might have contacted several coaches to discuss our strengths/weaknesses (considering we had bounced them unceremoniously the year before).
-
Hard to say. You can never judge anything by common opponents, but that's all I have to go on. HF beat Splendora 28-6, Splendora beat OF 22-14, OF beat HF 17-14, Jasper beat HF 37-16 and OF 24-14 I don't know that much about Splendora's other opponents, but I'd have to say just based on past play styles that Jasper would be closest in athleticism to Diboll. I'd go with Jasper by 10-17. If Coldspring meets Kirbyville, it should be a good matchup. I might even give the edge to Coldspring as Kville's defense is suspect at best.

Wait. We're likely going to play Cleveland? No disrespect, but I'm concerned how this is going to keep us tuned up for teams like Giddings. Cleveland lost to HJ 22-14. We're talking about the team we beat 64-0. And though I realize that our neighboring district isn't as "down" as last year, the above playoff projection has them sending in a team with a current record of 2-6 (the only wins against district opponents with a combined three wins). In the meantime, it leaves two playoff-caliber teams (Silsbee and HF) at home. I realize there's no easy solution. I'm just venting at the cosmos.

Well, if ya can't beat 'em, join 'em (the latter "'em" being whoever has a chance). I disagree about our fans being "the worst." I think we're "the best." Hooray us. I've seen a lot of worse fans than we, like those who run off and bail on their teams by the start of the fourth. As far as OF providing info to future opponents, I guess I can't fault the guy. Not everyone is going to go out and support district or area peers in the playoffs.
-
And thus far, at least in our case, we've taken it. Maybe it's just the center of the field. Maybe it's a challenge. Who cares? WO-S always clears the field by the time the home team runs out. This past week, they hurried off the center as Jasper came out moments after they did after the half. I can see people taking it as disrespect, but I don't think it's intended that way.

I completely agree. Then don't get upset when the other team continues to try as well. I would rather an obvious surrender and acceptance than to see the winning team perform some poorly-veiled scheme to make the losing team feel better about themselves, like their moms all called the opposing coach and explained how lonely and depressed they've been - and how they just need something like a TD to pick them up. If one team is even trying to score, both should be. I don't think it should be up to the team who came in prepared to throw in the towel. If you're looking for mercy, you're going to have to beg Football is partially a chess match, but it's also an old-fashioned gladiator battle. Can you imagine one gladiator crushing another one so badly that he starts swinging at the dirt and allowing the pitiful guy to land a few poorly-placed but effort-filled blows? If you don't want the score to get too lopsided, don't suck. Play better. Stop the other team. Then score. This seems to be an effective method of controlling the score and, sometimes, the outcome of the game.

I remember one game this year where they definitely did not. They were running out the clock on the first snap.

Consistency? How about 16 district titles and 18 playoff appearances in the last 22 seasons? We've won our district 72 percent of the last 22 seasons. If we win out this season in district, 15 of those district titles will have been SWEEPS (undefeated in district). Add to that the state's all-time best winning percentage in any classification. Show me someone in our area who is more consistent. Even in two of the three years we missed the playoffs, we had better regular season records than your doggies. Merriam-Webster defines "DOMINANT" this way: "commanding, controlling, or prevailing over all others " Coming in second or third in district year-in, year-out doesn't fit the last three words of that definition. Read the previous part of my post. Read my sig. Night night.

Sour grapes from a team that has never beaten us. When someone from that district can pony up enough b@@ls to beat us, you can talk. Dayton had no reason to show us anything but "plain Jane," but they kept the starters in until the bitter end, even though they couldn't register a second-half first down until less than two and a half minutes were left in the game. We "mouthed off" in this thread because it was an open topic and we're a relevant program to the topic. What about you?
-
Regarding your FACT on Dayton, Gable was ejected along with Depauldrick Garrett. We were hurt more. They also had A&M commit Cody Green against us. Besides - our dominance (this year) has been second-half absolute dominance. Regarding Bay City, they BEAT BRENHAM. FACT! Besides, are we just talking about this year? If so, I still think we're in the running. If this is about the team that is the most dominating year-in, year-out, we're certainly in the mix with a very, very small number of others (Newton, ??). Lest you think we're relying on "ancient history," let's just look at our record over the last decade (1998-2007 week 8). It's 90-20. That's 82 percent. Our record against 4A teams since we became a "little 3A team" is 10-2 (80 percent). If we're nit-picking, did PN-G "dominate" Vidor? Lumberton? Ozen? PN-G beat Ozen 21-19. Ozen has only won twice this year.

Orangefield has been impressive over the last few weeks, but this will be my first week to root against them. The Cats have been productive on offense, but, besides the HF game, have been a little more generous defensively. This week, they'll face the toughest D they'll see this season. I think the Stangs will win, but not in a blowout - maybe a few TDs. The key for OF will be jumping on us early. If we get to the half without an Orangefield lead, it's over. WO-S has allowed three scores in the second half this year - 2.6 second-half points per game.
-
Let's think about your "evidence." Hamshire-Fannett put a whipping on Silsbee, so they must be better than we are (even though we beat them 31-7). PN-G squeeked by Vidor, who lost by 40 to Dayton, who WO-S beat 22-14. Interesting. We haven't lost to a team from that district since we dropped to 3A. In fact, we've beaten the district champs from that district each year since dropping. Add this info to our eight-game winning streak against PN-G, and your little backhanded "good luck" sorta loses its punch ;D

I don't think that's an indication of too much. Why was the PN-G/Vidor score closer than the PN-G/Nederland and PN-G/Lumberton scores? -
EXACTLY! Here is my proposed solution to the problem: Since the team who is getting blown out is the one needing mercy, they should reach out. Currently, when one team runs into the middle of the pile and falls three times, then punts, the team being slaughtered does everything they can to fly down and score. That's crap. If you want the team dominating you to stop scoring, you should too. In other words, if you want your opponent to stop throwing the ball, stop driving for the end zone, etc., then take a knee. When you think it's getting out of hand and want to save face in the papers and score ticker, snap the ball and take a knee. I doubt there's a team in this state who would continue to score if you knelt the ball out and punted.
-
I love that he basically says, "You should never do this! We're gonna do it to you! Again!" I've looked back at the scores from Peebles' era, and quite a few of the scores happened later in the game, and few of them were anywhere near arm's reach of 60 - much less 100. We haven't even played y'all, but when you can come into WO-S and put up 70 on us, I'll buy you a plaque. BC is giving up an average of more than 50 points per game. It's not the opposing coaches' jobs to make your kids look good. That's up to your guys. Besides, it looks like Kville pulled the starting RB, but the sixth back on the stat list (out of the eight listed as having carries) averaged over 10 yards per carry. Jasper's third RB had a 47-yard TD run, and their last score was with more than seven minutes left. The backups are dominating. Should teams start kneeling in the third or fourth? Besides, Ofield scored 60, but only won by 25. Not excessive. I would worry more about the fact that you're ALLOWING an average of 65 in the last three games. Suck it up. If your defense is just that terrible, you can't blame a team with potential for keeping their players from getting rusty. Tough crap. There's no crying in football.

Our kicker has played really well overall the last few weeks - better than kickers in recent years.
-
WO-S has dominated its own district and district 22-4A since dropping classes in '04. However, in my opinion, a "dominating" team should still be 8-0 in week 9. We've pulled it out in all but one game, but haven't "dominated." Our defense has been dominating, especially in the second half. If our OC can get the offense up to speed with the D, we'll be GOLDEN!

BC is now giving up 50 points per game. I've never heard of such a thing! Kirbyville's D actually looked GOOD in comparison! -

I felt so bad for your players. With almost 11 minutes remaining in the game, there was a thick line of fans steadily flowing out of the gates. It was sort of sad. Those who stuck it out showed their colors by lining up to cheer and pat the Jasper players on the back as they left the field, but 90 percent of the Jasper crowd ran out when almost a full quarter remained. That's sickening. Jasper has a lot of potential. Your young QB is going to be something special, and you put more points on our defense than any other team we've played - including Dayton and Bay City (AND you scored on us in the second half). I was pretty impressed. Jasper is back! I'm rooting for the dawgs, as always (except on the WO-S/Jasper night). I hope your players keep their heads up and make the playoffs. They deserve it. Scoring that TD with just a few seconds left in the first half showed me a lot. I'm glad we've got better teams coming up the next two years, because otherwise, the dawgs wouldn't even be challenged. Thanks for a fun game, Jasper. -
PN-G will likely win district. Not state. I really don't think we have a "state" caliber team in our area this year. WB would be the closest. I have been rooting for the injuns, though. Hope they win the district outright.

Uh... raise your hand if you're a local 4A team and you've RECENTLY won against WO-S. Thought so. Kelly? Let's schedule it, baby.

Who Would You Choose If You Had To Pick One For Your Team??

Mosley. Not even close among these three.
