Little Cypress-Mauriceville at Nederland Predictions?
WOS92 replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If you lost in the quarterfinals, it's the same as losing in round 1, as far as I'm concerned. Losing in the semis means a little, losing in the finals means more, but winning in the finals means everything. It's more fun to watch your team win a game or three, but it doesn't necessarily mean you're a "dominant" team. There are a few super-weak districts that pump out sub-.500 win teams into the playoffs. Get to "the BIG GAME" and I'm impressed (WO-S, Newton, PN-G, Burkeville). -
What's up with the Bridge City defense?
WOS92 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Jasper, Silsbee and West Orange-Stark are also loaded with sophomores and juniors. -
It definitely means something to be "the best" of your class (district). I have never heard of being forced to forfeit two playoff wins due to a district title. If you come in second or third and lose in the third round every year, you're forgotten. District champs and state champs are remembered.

Also 10 INTs. I'd have a hard time - personally - electing an MVP from a winless team. Granted, it's not his fault, but his D has crippled his chances. At this point, my vote would go to Johnson from Silsbee, but it's close among those others listed. Hypolite will be an MVP one day, but he's still a bit raw and developing his "touch."

Who Has The Best Looking Uniforms In SE Texas?
WOS92 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
See, I see our (WO-S's) uniforms as a very "classic" style - a la Dallas Cowboys/Penn State. I love them. If they changed the helmets to blue with a silver "flying WOS," it would be o.k., but I'm a fan of the current style. I also like Jasper's current uniforms. LC-M changes every year. How do they have that kind of a budget? -
Looks Like Jasper Has The Upper Hand

How many decades ago did he coach at WO-S? Come on, now... -
Funny to see that coming from Kvillecheer, whose team was the third-best we've played in district (behind Silsbee and HF... and will probably end up fourth behind those two and Jasper).
-
PN-G looks impressive over the years! Permian is still the class of the all-time winning percentage, though WO-S doesn't look like we're sneaking into that top spot on a "high percentage/low total games" basis anymore. A few of the top teams have way fewer games than we do.

Has Jasper Become A One Man Team Now
WOS92 replied to skipper's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Looks like he'll be a star, but he has equals at Silsbee and WO-S. Hypolite is a junior, and Johnson is a sophomore who has D1 written all over him. All three are a bit raw, but should make for a spectacular "QB district" next year (and the year after, as the Mustangs' JV QB is a soon-to-be superstar). -
Quite good. They were nationally ranked recently.

*WO-S 17 Silsbee 6 Final/Comments*
WOS92 replied to Bobcatfan4life's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Yeah, but we have a better record in 4A since dropping than most - including PN-G. ;D In fact, we've beaten the 22-4A district champs every year since dropping. When is one of those mighty 22-4A teams gonna be able to beat this little ol' 3A team? And WO-S beat the Dayton team who destroyed Ozen 33-0 - the Ozen team that came within two of beating PN-G. You can't tell anything by common opponents. HF whooped Silsbee, Silsbee hung with us, we whooped HF. -
It's minor, but I think he's just been here for nine seasons (99-present). Norton was here through 98.

Last night was a departure from what we had been doing the last three weeks, when we piled up 129 points (avg of 43). I'm hoping the calls were just uber-conservative, and not an indication of our direction. Still, the defense is as good as it's been since 2000. It took a few years to rebuild after Thompson's brief departure, but if it holds up, it was worth the wait.

Loooooooord yes.

This D reminds me of the 2000 Chain Gang. When someone got inside the 15, they were going to be forced backwards. Almost all scoring plays will be breakaway plays. -
L-TRAIN IS LOADED AND BRYCE IS DRIVING THROUGH THE INJUN DEFENSE
WOS92 replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Ouch. -
Jasper has 1,813 total yards and 183 total points (against opponents with a combined 19-22 record). WO-S has 2,293 total yards and 186 total points (against opponents with a combined 24-24 record). How is that a superior offense? Meanwhile, WO-S has allowed nine points per game versus the same opponents listed above, while Jasper's D has allowed 25 ppg.

Lumberton has a good team, just not as good as PN-G. PN-G had a loss to LaMarque. That same week the "L-TRAAAAAAIN" played 1-6 New Caney (then winless Bridge City, who previously-winless Ofield put up 60 against). Then they played 1-6 Cleveland. So, yeah, they have a "better record," but the pre-district record (which is where PN-G had losses) were against teams with a current combined record of 2-19. Not impressive. I'm happy for Ltown that they have turned things around. Just know that two district losses might keep you home. Buck up and win out. PN-G, congrats on being the best team in the district.
-
Waah. PN-G was the better team.

Close but dull game. Good job, Tigers. Not a single turnover in the game until Silsbee threw a pick in the final minutes. Go STANGS!
