  1. Chevy? Oh crap. Don't tell John Cougar Mellencamp. He'll be on another rampage. ("THIS is OUR COUNTRY m#$*&@%uc&*#s!")
  2. The problem I see is that the current way of measurement requires TWO subjective spottings - the spotting of the ball and the spotting of the chains from the original first down mark. It has always driven me quietly crazy that measurements are spotted by subjective estimation and measured objectively to the teeny tiniest precise millimeter. I don't know of a better way, but I can still b**ch, right?
  3. In the WO-S/HJ results thread, you alluded to HJ beating us by 40 in basketball. The scores from this past season that I found were: 73-71, 68-53, 82-66. That's a combined 33 points - not 40, and not even close to even JUST THIS YEAR in football (65 points), much less the last three times we've played (a combined score of 195-13). Keep talkin.
  4. I agree with you pretty much all-around. The reason our D makes me confident that we'll pull this out is not just that they are more fundamentally sound, but downright mean. I can't remember the last time we had this many sacks in an entire season, much less just the first six weeks. We probably had 10 last week, six against Bay City, four or five against Kirbyville, several against HF... It could go either way, but if I had the money to bet on our D, I'd slap it down. Good luck to everyone and be careful!
  5. I honestly don't know how the playoff picture will come into focus, but I do think HF will beat Kville. They have the better defense and are strong where Kville's defense (which is pretty soft) is weakest - power running. Go horns!
  6. Deon Beasley got a flag after a huge TD in a playoff game two years back. He just went into sort of a leap as he crossed the goal line. I think something like that is ok, because it's not taunting anyone, it was a big score in a big game, and it was relatively subtle. But the jock strap thing would have a kid booted from the lineup in most schools around here.
  7. I don't think it will be a blowout. We have an edge, but it could be a shocker if the Stangs don't take Silsbee seriously enough. I don't see that happening - not under Hooks and Thompson.
  8. Jasper's "Alamo" is really cool, especially since they extended the seating. I'm a fan.
  9. Don't blame me. Blame the cackamalater. My bad. But, if you'll re-check your math, you got it wrong, too. Silsbee scored 165.
  10. Which part? I said Kville has no D because they've given up an average of 25 points in each of the last five games. HJ is gaining 175 yards and 13 points per game and allowing 33 points per game. That's how I came up with that one.
  11. I guess you mean smaller than the average 3A, right? WO-S has (as you know) won it each of the last two years - Beasley for the offense in 05 and Earl Thomas last year for defense.
  12. Kirbyville has a good offense, but NO defense. Fortunately for them, HJ has neither. Should be over by the fourth quarter.
  13. Burl "Stink Eye" Farnswaterton 12 sacks, 8 ints, 990 yards rushing, 1845 yards passing, 500 yards receiving, 11 forced fumbles, 4 kickoff returns for TD, 33 extra points, 14 field goals and shoots 99 percent from the foul line.
  14. I think he's verbally committed to A&M.
  15. Although I think we'd do fine in this "district," WO-S is actually smaller than Silsbee.
  16. You are aware that your Mildcats just beat a winless team by one TD in the final seconds after allowing 42 points (a week after being dominated in every phase of the game at home), right? That's a two-week total of 73 points allowed and 56 scored. Not exactly impressive.
  17. Obviously Hall from Central and Johnson from Ned, both of whom, I think, have verbally committed (to A&M and UT respectively) have the "best chances."
  18. Silsbee has the most unique stadium, which is really cool, but also the worst parking situation by a long shot. Five billion parking areas that converge into one way out. It took us two hours to get out of there last time.
  19. That's why I ranked them as "pound-for-pound," meaning against opponents at their own level - not against one another.
  20. Pound-for-pound: WB Kelly WO-S EC Lumberton
  21. I am starting to feel disillusioned. Each week, we watch players line up head-to-head and snarl at each other - scrape and bite and push and hit and pummel and crush. We watch our boys do everything they can within the rules to break the opponents' spirits and hurt them enough to make them submit. They talk s#@t, take their wounds as badges of honor and do their best to make the guy across the line give up and join the band. Then we get on here and whine that the other team was being mean. If you have a problem with a team calling a time out and throwing a TD pass when up 32, then call the UIL and beg them for a mercy rule. It's not OUR coach's job to make your boys look better. It's YOUR coach's job. Your ire is misdirected.
  22. Wow. You laid out three different players? Well, if they were blocking, they must have been on offense. #28 didn't come in until mid-fourth quarter (and scored), and the same goes for #35 on offense. How on earth did you "make" WO-S play you on every snap? Had the Stangs gone home at the end of the third, they still would have won. Take your lumps and move on.
