I think WO-S will win this year, but Silsbee has a shot. Again, I think last year was THE year for them to challenge, though I could be wrong. Next year, we'll have our best RB, our QB, and some superstar-in-the-making WRs coming back, not to mention some of our biggest stars on D. The Stangs will be a much better team next year, but I'm not putting anything past this year's team - especially with this being our best D since the glory defense of 2000.
-
If they look good to you, then I'm happy for ya. Personally, none of the stats - Silsbee included - strike me as a "top QB" like our district usually has. Johnson and Hypolite (and the kid from BC) look pretty good, but there are an awful lot of picks being thrown. And I was talking about BRIDGE City, noting Silsbee's QB stats against them.
-
Silsbee has scored and run up a lot of yards the last two weeks, but they did it against TWO WINLESS TEAMS! They put up a goose egg and way fewer yards against PN-G than even LC-M, who racked up almost three times as much yardage on PN-G as they did against us. Yes, Silsbee has a chance, but they have yet to face a defense like WO-S. Bridge City gave up just a bit more to Silsbee than they did to teams like Liberty and Kelly. Let's not forget that before playing two of the weakest teams in the district, the Tigers were giving up an average of 39 points per game. With two of the better teams in our district behind us, we're still giving up just under 9 points per game, 16 less than Silsbee INCLUDING the OF and BC games. Silsbee has a chance, but I think last year was the year.
-
We've beaten the district champs from 22-4A every year since we dropped to 3A. Last year, we beat Dayton, who swept the district. Same with Central the year before and Nederland before that. In fact, we're 10-2 against 4A since we dropped to 3A, with two losses to Bay City (and two wins against them). Those 4A teams have been Dayton, Nederland, Bay City, LC-M and Beaumont Central. Don't you even understand how district classification works? You might be the most clueless guy on this site, and that's saying something.

Our passing game isn't the best in the district, but we're in the top half statistically. Friday, Hypo was on, but the short and mid-range passes had a bit too much mustard on them. I have no doubt that it will improve. Offensively, WO-S and Silsbee have almost identical outputs. On the other side of the ball, WO-S has a distinct advantage, giving up just 217 yards and 8.6 points per game to Silsbee's average of 365 yards and 24.6 points. It will probably be closer than Kville, and anyone has a shot. That said, I'll take the Stangs' D as the deciding factor.

Silsbee's offense is stronger than HF's, but HF's defense is stronger than that of the Tigers. At least, it appears to be. HF does have a pretty potent running game, but not much of a passing game. I think HF will score enough to keep it reasonably close, but that Silsbee will take it in the end by 10-14 points.

He certainly was impressive in the highlights last night, and 160 passing/52 rushing is definitely solid! I'd go back to his previous games to sell him, though, since BC gives up about 42 points and 425 yards per game. Certainly he's been impressive all year. I wouldn't trade our guy for anyone, though. He's a natural leader, losing one game since like 8th grade (Bay City by two). His stats are fine, but his intangibles are spectacular.

WO-S grad Kerry Franks has four catches for 120 yards against Oklahoma State. He's just 13 yards away from being the team's receiving leader this season - not bad for a kid expected to be primarily used as a KO returner (though he does shine on returns).

Kville fans were great. They never started filtering out, even when a comeback was impossible. -
Anybody has a shot, and Silsbee is definitely at the top of the list of potential upsetters in our district.
-
Nope. Our last score was a third RB.

Here's a clip from the Kirbyville Daily Times Post News Dispatch: "Head coach Jack Alvarez took full responsibility for the team's second half collapse, attributing it to a poorly-worded halftime pep talk. 'It was my fault,' Alvarez said. 'My words weren't chosen too well, and I think it cost us out there. I told them we should all be inspired by the effort that Poo Poo had shown in the second half, but that he can only be in one position on each play. Then I told them, 'If we can all go out there in the second half and play like PooPoo, we'll take this one.' The team responded to Alvarez's rally cry, but not in the sense in which his speech was intended. Instead of taking it literally and modeling their on-field fire and effort after their star, they perceived that Alvarez was speaking figuratively. The result was disastrous for the Cats." -
Run the ball, Orangefield. Run it right at them and you have a shot! Orangefield keeps it simple: block with the big boys and hand it off. Pop the Kville RBs and rip the ball loose. OF 21 Kville 20

Kirbyville has a good team. I was impressed on the first drive. The mental shift was obvious. If they can get past that, they'll do well. But if adversity strikes and they look across at a Jasper helmet and let it get into their heads, trouble is on the way. Good luck! -

It obviously came across that way, since it's already been replied to TWICE in that way. -

Actually, I noticed quite a bit of over-aggressive activity from Kville late in the game, so I wouldn't get too high and mighty. Our guys got pretty hyped up, but they deserved to be excited. I didn't see anyone trying to start fights. Sorry that you hope we get "killed" in one of our future games, but at least it didn't happen tonight. Not to us. -

Intimidated all year? Weren't they 4-0? Who were they intimidated by? What football team wouldn't want to be referred to as bullies? Heck, it's a compliment! I was disappointed to see the Wildcats as shaken up as they were, but our defense and offense definitely stepped up after that HORRIBLE fumble call by the refs (Garrett had almost completely rolled over on the ground when the ball popped out) and they sort of got fired up. -

Our players were bullies? Punkin, it's FOOTBALL. If you're not a bully (within the rules) you LOSE! -

As does Kirbyville. Unfortunately, they are conspicuously absent here in the post-game discussion. -

You're right. My apologies for the mean, mean things we've said here. Kirbyville is an incredibly talented and disciplined team who should win out and bring home the state trophy. Is that better? Y'all are awfully whiny for football fans. I've heard of blaming the refs. I've heard of blaming the opponent of cheating. I've heard of blaming injuries. I've NEVER heard of accusing the other team's fans of being too mean after a game. If you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go stand in timeout until teacher says I can play Play-Doh with Gary again. -

Most WO-S fans (including me) predicted a close game. The most vocal Kville fans predicted a blowout in favor of the cats. Time for some crow. Our Stangs did enjoy being bullies tonight. Other than that, it's a ridiculous statement. -

Oh come on. Y'all, if it hurts your feelings, don't open the thread. This is football. I think everyone expected whoever won to do quite a bit of smack back. Get over it. Kville played a respectable game, but it wasn't as close as I expected. I would put Kirbyville on par with Hamshire-Fannett this year. Kirbyville has a quicker offense, but HF has a much better D. Good luck to the Cats the rest of the year. -

Here's a great quote from the Kville head coach: "They've still got the Mustang mystique. They are West-Orange Stark and they just played the Kirbyville Wildcats in our little football stadium, and they whooped our little butts."
