No doubt this team is more mature than they were four weeks ago. The miscues and bad calls on offense are frustrating, but, if they can get the O to a manageable point, the D is as strong as it has been since 2000 (or it seems to be). How many sacks do they have this year? It seems they have at LEAST 11 in the last two games. Cory Bell looked like Rod Woodson on that TD return last week. Hypolite needs to reign in the deep balls just a tiny bit, and we'll be fine.

Like Jake, I'll say "yes" on both sides. Yes, Dayton is a good team, capable of beating anyone in district on any given night. Yes, Dayton is overrated at this point, since some are still predicting them to win 22-4A despite the fact that they are 1-3. Despite the fact that Green only played one and a half (if that much) games, he is STILL the team's leading rusher. Against WO-S in a close week 0 game, Green accounted for 72 percent of Dayton's offense. It's a big, big loss - a kid who is a junior, yet already committed to a D1 school.

The BEST High School spread offense youve seen?

Dude. Have you read this board? Every other post is someone saying another team won't win. THAT'S WHAT THIS BOARD IS! Is this the first time you've proven them wrong? Right now, you're not making your team look like one who is unwilling to settle with one big win - who will not be happy until they end the season undefeated. GET OVER IT! I picked Dayton, though I did say the raiders had a shot. I'll probably pick against Lumberton again this year - more than once. BIG WHOOP! GET OVER IT! -
AMEN! Act like you've been there, guys. It's starting to look like you'd be perfectly happy if the season ended now. It was an impressive win, but Nederland, Central and possibly LC-M are better than Dayton right now. Beat two of them, and I'll believe that you're for real this year.
-
First of all, if someone on a message board can keep you from enjoying a huge win, then you need to evaluate your priorities and probably stop coming here. Second, I know this win was a huge deal, and I didn't say it was "nothing," but for God's sake - act like you've been there before. Make the playoffs. Don't blow all of your mouthing off on the fourth game of the year and the first game in district. Come on. If I upset you with my opinion, then I apologize, but this is a FOOTBALL board. There's no crying in football. This is getting to be like trying to counsel some insecure friend who refuses to let something go. I'm entitled to my opinion. I think it was a big win psychologically, but in the grand scale of things, just a stepping stone (and you should hope I'm right). You have an issue with the fact that I'm not as impressed as you think I should be. Whoopty to both of us.
-
You really have to get over it. No offense, but one big win isn't going to change public perception when you've got this "no playoffs" stigma attached to the team. I'd worry more about continuing the upsets than whether people are believing - because they won't believe until you force them to on the field. It might take two or three more wins like this, one more win like this, or it might be two years from now. I'll let you know when I'm a believer, as will everyone else. Why would you let me or any other doubter ruin a big win for you? GET OVER IT AND IGNORE US!

I will say this: HF came to play against us on Friday. They were much better than in years past, and the defense played very solid. If the offense could shape up to match the D, they would be a threat.
-
We scored 34 - more than you scored against Jasper (worse record than HF), Cleveland (WINLESS), and Carthage (gave up more points to 2A Newton). Cleveland gave up more points to both Lumberton and Diboll, and y'all only topped HJ by five points. Your point total against Jasper was the second lowest against them in the first four games (lower than Livingston and my boys in Newton). You're not exactly looking like an offensive juggernaut. On top of that, your D looks like it gives up points like government cheese. Plus, the only team you've played that was a challenge was Carthage. WO-S has been playing "up" every week until district started.
-
Maybe so. Then again, y'all said that last year
-
Calls were fine last night. It was poor execution. I'm certainly willing to admit when it's really a player problem. I think they managed to lock it in in the second half.
-
I think it was 14-7 back in 03. You guys hadn't been 3A for a long, long time then, though. You came up to 4A in 1992. I'm proud of the raiders for a big win. I just thought some of the chest-thumping by a few posters was a little silly. I hope it doesn't go to the players' heads - that this win isn't the thing that makes 2007 memorable for them. In other words - even if you haven't, act like you've been there.

Stats sure don't show it. Yardage was close, Jasper only had one turnover and only punted one time more than the cats. They also had 10 first downs, compared to 12 for Kville. It sounds like it was closer than the score indicates. -
Yeah, bawla. Here's your domination: Kville (vs. Carthage, Liberty, Cleveland, Jasper): 53 points allowed, 840 yards in THREE games (minus the stats from the Cleveland game, which are missing) Jasper (vs. Livingston, BH, Newton, Kville): 69 points allowed, 1125 yards allowed WO-S (vs. Dayton, Bay City, LC-M, HF): 44 points allowed, 809 yards (in FOUR games) That means WO-S gave up FEWER yards in FOUR games (against three 4A teams) than Kville did in THREE games, two of which were teams with a combined 3-6 record. Honestly, HF gave up fewer points to Liberty than Kirbyville did. In fact, Kville's dominant D allowed Liberty to rack up their second highest point total of the first five games, and just one score fewer than BC allowed.
-
The district is down, but there are still some interesting matchups. The teams at the bottom are more obvious than those at the top, but I think WO-S, Kville and Silsbee will rise in the end.

The yardage was almost equal. -
Are you trying to slip in excuses already? Which players?
-
Pull out a win. You also owe us for our almost 40 point win in the game-situation, four-quarter scrimmage the year before. WO-S may not be the offensive machine it was the last year or two, but it's not hurting. The D is better than it's been since 2000 (so far). I'm perfectly content going into this one.
-
Not everyone.

Great win tonight. Congrats. Having said that, with all due respect, listen: Remember - out of four games, Dayton has only won once. Good luck reaching your first playoff berth, but temper this crap. It's silly. Dayton will not be the same without Green. Enjoy the win, celebrate it, but don't do this stuff. Honestly - I'm not nearly as impressed with the win as you are. We won by a good bit more against the same team PLUS their top player. It's easier to root for the raiders when fans and players don't overdo it.
