  1. Hmmm... I'd remove this one. Pretty nasty.
  2. I don't see DRH taking a backseat to anyone, but if the positions were switched...
  3. Silsbee's field is fine. However, the parking situation almost negates any positives of the actual stadium. I'll take DRH any day
  4. From what I've heard, every year it's "a few more" because he sees the talent load rising up to the HS level. When he's gone, if Coach T is still there, we'll be fine. I don't think predicting a "downward trend" makes any sense, since there's no telling who will come up or step in to the position. I can think of a few current or former WO-S coaches who could keep the tradition alive. I think outsiders would be surprised how much T has to do with our success.
  5. OK, look... Yeah, if WO-S overlooks HF, it could be bad news. I don't think that will happen. At least, I certainly don't think it will. But this is an awfully misleading story, making it sound like a mental block has been the factor that has kept HF from beating the Mustangs. If that were the case, the games would be close, but they would fold when the chips were down. Truth be told, WO-S has won by 54, 30, and 29 - a combined total score of 138-25. None of the games have been close. This has nothing to do with a "mental block." That said, we don't have the superstars to overlook anyone this year. Stay focused, Stangs!
  6. LOL... Yeah, I guess they woulda beaten us even though we had Beasley - something only the eventual 3A state champs could do.
  7. Holding DPG has nothing to do with speed. I doubt he even runs a 4.5. He's strong and elusive, not fast.
  8. In 2004 we lost to Bay City 0-17, our last regular season loss.
  9. I can't say C R A P? That's fucking bullshit.
  10. Hooks is 6-0 vs. Barbay. Barbay is a close second (and don't give me that "smaller school" crap. WO-S still beats teams twice its size and more).
  11. If we're including the pre-WOS schools in the Stangs' gene pool, shouldn't we include Wallace's Ernie "Big Cat" Ladd?
  12. No doubt: one player CAN win a game - depending on the competition. You can't tell me that you've never seen a kid so gifted against a D so bad that it was obvious that the blocking was just a formality (breaks five tackles, darts 40 yards and hurdles a defender).
  13. Wow! A freshman playing third string goes in to make a comeback (with SIX TDs)! GREAT JOB, BEVIL!
  14. HEY! We're a little ol' 3A team, and our ONLY loss is by three to that same Bay City team - but we dropped more than Brenham?
  15. I'll say Depauldrick Garrett at this point, but honestly, his little brother is going to give him a run for his money (no pun intended).
  16. I agree with most of the lists: WO-S takes it, Kville probably second and everyone else clawing.
  17. Yes, it was 44, not 48. It also could easily have been in the high 60s had we not elected to play with a running clock for the entire second half. Surely you don't think a loss to Bay City would make us take them off of the schedule, do you? We've always made brutal pre-district schedules, so why pull a team that actually manages to beat us? I love the Bay City games, but didn't go this year because my kid was sick and, frankly, I wasn't up to the travel. It's a fun game most of the time, but not always worth four hours (round trip) in the car.
  18. We've done very well recently at the Reservation. I have to agree with Scrubs. What makes a place intimidating is not the atmosphere, the tradition, the crowd, the mental lock in your mind that tells you "winning will be harder here." No. The most intimidating things are crowd signs (especially the horrifying D and a FENCE) and empty propane tanks filled with ball bearings - painted faces and chests and team-colored clown wigs. Those are the things that make a player look at their surroundings and say, "How can we possibly win here?" And sarcasm. That also helps.
  19. From what I've heard, he needs it! Does his coach know things are being posted under his user name about the team? No. 24, right?
  20. I hear ya, Gas. Congrats, Aggies. You know your pronouns!
  21. If memory serves correctly, the reverse happened just outside of the red zone - not on the goal line. The goal line plays were a few passes, a pitch and a QB sneak on fourth down from the shotgun. I couldn't possibly sit in the booth or on the sidelines and call a game on offense or defense. That's why I don't do it. Having said that, I do think it's unfortunate that I can sit in the stands like my fellow "wannabes" and say, "This isn't going to work"... and it doesn't. Almost every time it's uttered, it's true. My only issue is playcalling. The kids are well prepared and educated about the system. They are fitted into it perfectly. Kudos on those jobs very well done. Playcalling has hurt us. If it's wrong to come out and state something so simple and obvious after more than eight seasons of sitting back and watching it continue, then I'll certainly shut up.
  22. Personally, I don't think the article should have been written. On a board like this, it's expected that people are going to air grievances and discuss what is irking us. A tiny percentage of fans read this (and similar) board(s). The paper is likely in the neighbor's yard next door. I hate that it comes across as a personal attack when we push for a change. I know from countless different people that Coach Crouch is a really great guy and probably even a great coach. But offensive playcalling in crucial situations has hurt the Mustangs - more than just the average "coaches are human" type of bad playcalls that anyone is apt to make. I doubt that many hard-core WO-S fans on either side of this issue will disagree. I know several who defend our OC publicly - even privately - out of loyalty and even genuine respect for what he DOES bring to the team. But those same people will agree that the timing and frequency of the bad calls have been a pretty significant part of our "early exits" (meaning earlier than we SHOULD have bowed out) - and that it is a particular area of weakness. Obviously the kids have benefitted from his guidance and support. I'm sure there are many ways that he has helped build our success. I would think that, if it were acceptable to all parties, it would be great if he stayed on board in a non-playcalling capacity. I realize that Toby is at Lee and can't do anything about the 2007 Stangs (who I think will be just fine and have the potential to shock 3A). I would like to see him have a chance to run the offense for a few years.
  23. DON'T SHOOT THEM, BAWLA!
  24. No team from our district will win state this year.
