  1. WO-S's Charles Sias hit a QB from behind so hard that I would have sworn the back of his helmet touched his heels. He fumbled on the play. I don't remember the team, but it was a playoff game.
  2. OMG... You didn't just throw that out there, did you? I feel a little sick... :-\
  3. Got nothin' against Silsbee, either We just have a long rivalry with Jasper, and I'd probably feel different if we hadn't done so well in the series. When you have a fairly convincing record against a team, but most games have been hard-fought and many down to the wire, you kind of develop a fondness for them...
  4. It was one of those things where every time the dude touched it, we got it. ;D
  5. I saw Bock play several times, and he was an above average HS running back, but I would have been stunned to see him at a D1 school. Micah Mosely barely got in D1, and he was a far superior back. Bock still had some bugs in his game (three fumbles vs. WO-S his JR year) but was a good power runner - not spectacular, but very good.
  6. If a kid had that size and 4.4 speed, it would take some SEVERE academic deficiencies to keep him out of UT.
  7. With all due respect, none of those guys at BC that year ran a 4.4. Bock was a big kid, and if he had run a 4.4 he'd have played at UT or A&M instead of Howard Payne. They weren't even close to Beasley's speed, which was closer to 4.5. Charles ran a legit 4.4, as did Kerry Franks. A lot of people mistake quickness for speed. Those guys for BC were pretty good, but not close to 4.4.
  8. But if we're looking at it from a winning point of view, PN-G has only won 62 percent of its games over the last 75 years or so. I think PN-G has earned the "traditional program" designation based on school spirit and such more than on actual football dominance. If we were basing this argument on that, neither Stephenville nor PN-G would be in the top 50 teams based on consistent winning percentage ([Hidden Content]). I don't think strictly winning was what this thread was originally about.
  9. Odessa Permian, without question. PN-G has a great "tradition." The best in the area without a doubt. But there is no comparison in Texas to Permian. Books, several movies (Friday Night Lights, Varsity Blues), and a TV series have been based on the program. Just say "MOJO" and people know what you're talking about - some even rip you off
  10. You mean players coming up FROM JV? For us, Ortaviousl Hypolite, Chase Adams, Tre Franks...
  11. For the most part, the "hype" about us is more muted this year, as most think we'll be less potent due to youth. While that is probably true, some of our most "inexperienced" teams ended up being hungry enough to compile some of our best seasons.
  12. I'm glad. I root for Jasper nine out of 10 weeks.
  13. They might contend for a playoff spot, but probably lose a few big games. I think it's unlikely that they'll be in the top three, but it's not out of the question. Jasper always has size and talent, but they have rarely used them to their fullest potential. If players can pass their English classes () and treat Coach Brooks' advice like scripture, then they'll probably be up there in district with the top teams on an almost yearly basis. I think any team that goes through what Jasper did last year has to go through at least a year under a new coach before they shock the world, so I don't think this is the year to go all in on Jasper. Next year, they should be very strong - but so should WO-S and several others. I still like WO-S next year (2008), but Jasper will have a strong and experienced QB/WR tandem.
  14. Hehehe... and they still wear "The Hit List" shirts (or remnants of shirts) 13 years later to remind us all
  15. Yeah, but I always wonder how much you can tell by these intrasquad scrimmages. Is it your offense overcoming your great defense, or does your offense suck just a little less than the D (or vice versa)? It's almost like any play should bring out this reaction: "YES... and S**T!"
  16. I don't think there's all that much "hype," but I do think most expect Jasper to be on the upswing pretty quickly. I'm rooting for them to make the playoffs. They've always been one of my favorite non-WO-S teams (Jasper and Newton).
  17. Really? Great team, but they only played in one title game during that decade and won it. Your neighbors in WO played in three and won two, later named "team of the 80s" by Dave Campbell's Texas Football.
  18. No, Jasper had a very young team last year that got a full year of varsity experience, Tess (can I call you Tess?). Plus, Brooks (former WO-S coach) is a difference maker. If Kville wins district, you can gloat all you want even though most everyone acknowledges that it is a possibility. You're the only one claiming the outcome is already set in stone. Why shouldn't we have had that attitude last year? We won our district games by an average of 41 points en route to our third straight district sweep.
  19. Did I say that, or are you still working on the reading/comprehension thing? I think I said that it COULD happen. Yeah, they COULD miss the playoffs. Do I THINK Kville will win district? No. Do I THINK they will be in the top three? Probably. I'm not taking any guesses AGAINST Kville, but FOR my team and Silsbee. I'm not offended by your prediction. It's fair. I just think it's funny that your prognostications all seem to end up dead wrong. Then you disappear for a while. Besides, this thread has nothing to do with Kirbyville. But while we're at it: Right now, I think Kirbyville will be our fourth toughest regular season game next year, behind Dayton, Bay City and Silsbee. If you want to get offended by that, then go right ahead. Feel confident all you want. It really won't affect a thing. The players and coaches will work the whole win-loss thing out, not fans. Learn to fully process the words you read. Also, learn to spell the name of your city.
  20. Once again, balla, that makes me feel good considering your track record with predictions. I'll bet Dayton is cussing you, though.
  21. Kirbyville isn't a joke, but neither are WO-S, Silsbee or Jasper. Any one of those four could end up sitting home. Better face facts - it's gonna be a dogfight. If you think Kville is a shoo in for a playoff spot, then I hope y'all's coach knows better. Actually, I don't. 8)
  22. You too, man. I circle the Bay City game on my calendar every year. Too bad it's not in the Dome every year anymore. Those games felt bigger. That 53-35 game was one of the most fun games I've ever watched. Neither team was a world beater, but there sure were some spectacular plays. I think it means a lot to our guys to be able to hang with a program with such a tradition of excellence in a larger school division.
  23. Details, details ;D
  24. Heard that before, but you might be right! In fact, you never know with Bay City. They might end up with a state title and a 15-1 record like 2000. Who was that one loss to, I wonder? Oooohhh yeah, that other 15-1 team that year. ;D
  25. Uh, yes. Two good teams, and with Bay City, it's sort of a "rivalry," where you throw out the records and stats. We could just as easily be 2-0. Honestly, if we're 0-2 against those two teams, I won't panic a bit. Tough pre-district will just get us ready for the district and playoffs.
