Coach Neumann And The Nederland Spread
WOS92 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Should be interesting. -
Here are a few streaks statewide I found: Easton - 18 years Paul Pewitt - 12 years LaMarque - 18 years Calallen - 18 years (including one final, 5 semifinals, 9 quarterfinals) Ennis - 11 years (including three titles, five semifinals) Too much sifting through names and years to continue... :-[
-
Not a problem... I'm surfing the records forum. East Chambers is at 12 years and counting.
-
Newton's streak is better: 13 years.
-
To respond to this and answer adminbaberuth, Dayton's streak is equal to Nederland's. They've been in the last 11 years. Had we not been DQed in 92, we would have had a 14-year streak up until 99.

what if this merger was to happen.....

Yep. I think it would be a competitive 5A, but not statewide dominant. They've won a combined 64 percent of their games since 2000 and like 58 percent all-time. It would be a respectable program, but I wouldn't think 14 or 15 game seasons would be too frequent. -

Totally fair. They didn't want to play bad enough to work toward getting better for the sake of the team. Good for the coach. Bye, boys. -
Not really, lubbockbulldog. I voted ned and explained my vote in great detail. My Mustangs were 5-5 against Ned during that span and 23-6 overall. There's no jealousy among our fans, and there's really not as much among other schools as you apparently think. I know quite a few people who genuinely feel the program is "overrated" - at least compared to the other choices. Big deal.

Predictions For Your Team's Record This Season

Other than Harris, what solid playmakers and how many starters does Silsbee have coming back? I'm expecting them to be a contender, but I must admit that I only know a few names. -
How much is a "big touchdown" worth? How do you go about scoring it?
-
Pretty close when you compare EC and WO-S. WO-S scored 38 points per game and EC scored 36. For WO-S, that included a below-their-average 26 points against Dayton, the second highest point total against them last year besides Texas City, who knocked them out of the playoffs just before bouncing Brenham. If you take out the WO-S game, Dayton only allowed 9 points per game. If it weren't for a boneheaded OC, we'd be unstoppable. Talent has overcome bad playcalling.

Jasper is my second-favorite team in the district, but I'm calling them at 6-4, with losses to Newton, WO-S, Silsbee and Kirbyville. I'll be rooting for them to make the top three, though. -
For the second year in a row, I'll say that if we had Kenneth Deion Beasley, we would be unstoppable this year.

The spread can be a miracle, and the spread can be a disaster.

I'm not saying that BC will never beat us. It will just not happen consistently anytime soon. -

BC has been beating our JV and middle school teams since the late 80s. It doesn't translate to varsity. We've had at least one of these conversations every year since 1990, and it still hasn't happened. Sorry, but BC taking over from WO-S ain't gonna happen anytime soon. No offense, but it's true. For whatever it might mean, our team in 08 should be even stronger than this year. -

Giddings was much better than Dayton in their games against us. I watched both games. As far as our OC goes, yes, he calls bad plays in critical situations. But doesn't that beg the question: How does BC's DC have a job? Our lousy OC has put up 145 points in the four games he's played against y'all. That's an average of more than 36 points per game. Better yet - let's compare how many points we've scored against common opponents. Last year: Liberty BC 24, WO-S 60 Ham-Fan BC 27, WO-S 54 Hardin-Jeff BC 21, WO-S 62 Silsbee BC 10, WO-S 20 Jasper BC 22, WO-S 40 Orangefield BC 28, WO-S 40 Kirbyville BC 12, WO-S 46 That's 144 total points for BC, 322 for WO-S. You didn't even come close to scoring half as much as we did against the same defenses. Which begs this question: Is the BC OC that bad, or is there just no talent in red and white? I mean, last year they had arguably their best offensive weapon in school history in Dishon. Yes, we think our OC makes boneheaded calls that hurt us against tough teams, but what you're failing to realize is that we hold our coaches to a higher standard than most. Yours either had nothing to work with or messed up enough against much lesser opponents to lose you four games and miss the playoffs in what was supposed to be a glory season. And here's a bit on Giddings: Last year, their QB rushed for 2,896 yards - which is 652 more yards than BC had for their entire offensive output last year - passing and running. That's just one player. They didn't pass much last year, but they didn't have to. The year before, their QB (then a sophomore) had almost twice as many passing yards and five times as many TDs as Dishon had as a senior. They were ranked third when we played, and we were fourth. Does that sound like an average team? Please feel free to continue this. I've got more. -

It could go the other way around, for sure. I don't THINK we'll be 10-0, even if we sweep the district. If we have just one loss, it will be to Dayton. We might lose to Silsbee as well. Who knows? But we very well COULD go 10-0. DPG should raise some real eyebrows for those who haven't seen him go off already. The kid isn't a giant, but he runs like Earl Campbell ate Barry Sanders. -
Is Ned's QB a runner?

Best Returning Athlete in SETX?? WHO IS IT?
WOS92 replied to WarriorSports's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
As said before, most players in smaller schools (3A and down) do the same. Your point? -
Seems like an odd choice for both mid-county teams. I don't see it.

But by that point, we'll be up 40, and it won't matter. Seriously, though... that was Giddings. You guys are not Giddings. Where were y'all when that happened to us last year? Watching? Cool. -

Okay. I'll let them know to unleash a fourth and blow the game back open. Those "three plays" (though we actually had as many as three different people lining up at QB, much less a fairly open offense) got us 11 straight wins last year. We really only needed two plays against BC, though. Hand it to Garrett and end up with 219 solo rushing yards and four TDs (he's back). Is that really all you guys have, anyway? Insult an OC that we know is awful? Is that what 20-some-odd games and zero wins does? Geez. All we have to say is "undefeated." You can have as many plays and sets and formations as you want. You've never beaten us, and this ain't the year. -

Tell your guys to start stopping the ones we already have. Then we'll work on it. I'm calling for a 9-1 regular season with a close loss to Dayton. It could be 10-0, it could be 8-2. I'll split the difference.
