  1. I don't remember anyone being kicked out of that Dustin Long at WO-S game either. I thought Locks was long gone, and Gayron certainly was never kicked out of a game. It was a great game, but no one was ejected. It was close, but certainly not controversial.
  2. I'm not a fan of the show, but good luck to ya.
  3. I think that was my point. They used their four titles to our two as comparison.
  4. I guess so. How weird.
  5. I wasn't touting us, I was touting Permian. I am, however, proud of our winning percentage. We've won two titles and played for four in just 29 years of existence, by the way. Stephenville has been around for 87 years. So Stephenville has a title for every 22 years, while WO-S has one for every 15 years. Numbers are cool. Again, I wouldn't try to put us in as the "best tradition," but we do have the top winning percentage, which is awesome. Stephenville's is under 60 percent. Thanks.
  6. Charles by a lot.
  7. Hm. I was right there when the WO-S player hit the HF QB and he was wearing a helmet.
  8. Serously? Couldn't you have said that after the 05 season? New year. New team. Same result.
  9. Well, I wouldn't personally have put Stephenville in the Top 5, but to each his own. As far as Permain's qualifications, they have six state titles, 11 state finals appearances, two national "titles" and a win-loss record second only to (cough, cough) West Orange-Stark, and a novel, two movies (Friday Night Lights and Varsity Blues) and a television series based on its tradition. Which TV show is based on Stephenville?
  10. HF? Um, no. Ask the HF QB from last year which team hits hardest. HF gave up more than 20 ppg last year. I'd have to be a homer and go with WO-S. Other than that, probably Silsbee.
  11. If you're going sheerly on tradition, then Permian.
  12. You made me curious: at East Chambers (Winnie, TX) [2006] West Orange-Stark (Orange, TX) 42, [2006] East Chambers (Winnie, TX) 17 at West Orange-Stark (Orange, TX) [2006] West Orange-Stark (Orange, TX) 44, [2006] East Chambers (Winnie, TX) 17 at neutral site [2006] West Orange-Stark (Orange, TX) 44, [2006] East Chambers (Winnie, TX) 17
  13. WO-S vs. Newton has happened six times, and, except for one year, it was a great game each time. WO-S is still undefeated in the series, but the Eagles always come to play. Personally, I'd like to see Buna vs. SLC.
  14. Nederland does have a very good coaching staff, but let's not oversell. Ned's defense gave up an average of 28 points per game, including scores of 63, 41, 35, 49, and 28. I'm not feeling the "waves." Dayton gave up an average of 16 ppg (which was skewed upwards by WO-S's 26 points ). They were .500 this year, including a "clutch" loss to Vidor. Go figure.
  15. I can't picture it, but I am not nearly as familiar with the Bulldog roster as y'all are. For WO-S, the spread was only truly an asset with Beasley, who was better than any of our RBs. No offense, but I don't think Big Ned has a Beasley on board (nor does WO-S).
  16. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? That's strange.
  17. Size means little, in my opinion. In 2000, WO-S went 15-1 and only lost in the title game as one of the smallest schools in all of 4A - and beat the team that won the "big school" championship. WO-S was well outmanned in most of the last decade in 4A, but never had a losing season (since 83). A big talent pool certainly helps, but it's not crippling to be a smaller school - especially not at the 4A level.
  18. Has that team played WB, WO-S, Nederland, Central, Dayton, Memorial or any of the other teams on the list? My school, WO-S, shared three opponents with EC last year - HJ, HF and Orangefield. EC beat HJ by 1 point. WO-S beat them by 62. EC beat HF by 3. WO-S beat them by 54. EC beat OF by 12. WO-S beat them by 27. I just don't see EC as a contender for the "most feared" team in SETX, because they don't play any of the other contenders. They certainly do well in the games that they do play, but it's hard for a team from one of the smallest two classes to be the "most feared." WO-S has been fortunate enough to play the role of both giant and giant killer.
  19. I don't see HF going far, nor do I see Jasper as state-bound - especially since they won, what, one game this year? I'm not sure if WO-S will be the top team, but they'll certainly have the talent to contend.
  20. Hazelwood would probably be the most seasoned. Hypolite at WO-S showed some serious stuff in his only varsity action last year, and I think he'll just be a sophomore (think). By his senior year, he'll be Deon Beasley II.
  21. Didn't Mathews beat Nederland in the last few minutes this year?
  22. Well, we won by 62 this year and 55 last year for a combined two-year score of 130 to 13. Let's hope the gap narrows Freshmen team scores don't mean a lot, since an elite freshman player will not play on the freshman team. A great athlete won't stay on the freshman team for long once the coaches recognize his potential to help the upper level teams.
  23. Aren't we all homers? Depauldrick Garrett will be a bigtime star this year, stepping up into the shoes that Thomas filled last year (after he stepped up for Beasley).
  24. With all due respect, I disagree on the Mathews front. Vidor is slightly better than they once were, but still are usually cellar dwellers in the district. Mathews is not a BAD coach, but not one of the top 10 in the area, in my books. I'd certainly put him behind Hooks, Barbay, Stowers, Stump, Neumann, Credeur, Burnett and even Moody. The demographics in Vidor are pretty much the same as those in Nederland and PN-G, and I'd venture to say that they even do much better size-wise. Yet they continue to underachieve. I guess I just expected a genuine "turnaround" early on, and it's never happened. But certainly, as a player, if the coach is one that seems to care more about you as a person and player, then you know a lot more than I do. Obviously there's more to coaching than winning, but I think that's what we're basing this on. One of the things that is the mark of a good coach is getting his kids to the next level. Once again, I'd like to put Hooks out there for this reason. With a little ol 3A enrollment, he's sent five to Division I schools (Beasley (Texas), Thomas (Texas), K. Franks (Texas A&M), J. Franks (Texas Tech), White (Houston)) over the past three years.
  25. Neumann is in the top five, but not the top three.
