Hooks is undefeated in six (I think) head-to-head meetings with Barbay.
-
Funny... my heart wasn't broken on that fumble
-
Barbay is second under the great Dan Ray in my books. I'm a Newton fan when I'm not following the Mighty Mustangs.
-
No coach in the area has a winning record against Dan Hooks. The end.

WO-S/Calallen in the 2000 4A DII Semifinals was the best game I've ever seen. One of the state's best defenses in decades versus one of its most powerful running attacks ever. It opened with a 50-yard return and a 50-yard flea flicker for a TD and ended with a miracle reception, juke and run by WRS award winner Jermaine Hope (actually it ended with a pick by WO-S). WO-S's winning drive happened in the last 1:30 of the game. It was by far my favorite. The Silsbee game mentioned before wasn't "at home." It was at PA Memorial Stadium. It was a heartbreaker - especially after the Stangs had played the Tigers earlier in the season and held them to negative yards.

It's possible that WO-S won't win the district this year, but we'll be in the top three. We'll have a new QB (as we did this past year), but he showed some very Beasley-like flashes last year in the postseason. Plus, we'll have the best returning RB in the district - Depauldrick Garrett.

Best Returning Athlete in SETX?? WHO IS IT?

Rhodes was not the leading scorer in the 3A district. Bevil (WO-S QB) had 27 TDs and kicked every extra point for the Stangs this year. -
I just saw this response from a particular ever-insightful and always-wrong BH fan, and I thought I'd clear up a misconception: The term "sour grapes" is not the same as being a sore loser or jealous. The term is rationalization of a failure to attain a desired end. In the fable by Aesop, from which the term was drawn, a fox realizes that he can never hop high enough to reach the grapes. So, he rationalizes that even if he had reached them, they probably would have been too sour to eat. That's what "sour grapes" means. If WO-S (or any other) fans had said, "Being state champ is overrated anyway," THEN it would be "sour grapes." Now you know... And knowing is half the battle...

I would not be qualified to coach. However, I am qualified for my job, for which I am held accountable. If I mess up and do not perform my job at a high enough level, I wouldn't have it anymore. -

Hooks is above any criticism from Stang fans. The OC is not, and made one (or more than one) of the worst calls I've ever witnessed in any sport on the goal line. Yes, some fans spoke out. Still, we will be there to support our Mustangs regardless what happens between then and the start of the 2007 season. Hypolite is the next big name to come from Mustangland. -
Obviously it was a homer thread wanting to validate Mosley as the greatest, but there have been several from SETX who were better - Charles included (as well as his brother, Shanderrick). I think the answers were honest and true. Charles is by far the better back. Mosley was a great one, but not of the same caliber.
-
My heart says Giddings, so that we can say the state champ knocked us out the last two years. My head says Cuero will win it all.
-
I don't even have to think about this one - Charles.

Giddings is nowhere near the Trinity River. The only true "west of the Trinity" teams we played this year were Dayton and Liberty, who we beat by a combined 86-9 (way to represent, Westies). That's not including the donkey stomp we put on BH in a four-quarter scrimmage. Once you're past Houston, you don't count as a "west of the Trinity" team. You're a "west of Houston" team. -
We've barely been able to kick an extra point - much less a field goal - for the last five years. If we were really doing all of the "recruiting" that most sour-grapers claim, we'd have a soccer player from an area school suiting out. That is our weakest spot year-in, year-out. Andre did an admirable job this year, but he's got more important duties to worry about. Our OC needs to go. It needs to be said. It's been needed for six years, but this is the last straw. If I don't do my job to the level that satisfies my boss, I get fired. It should be that way. Toby Foreman should be the WO-S OC. Period. Randy Crouch needs to go. This has gone on long enough. True, etbu, this game was more than just the goal line play. You are an awesome guy, I know you and respect you tremendously. However, even with all of the other factors that hurt us, our kids, on heart alone, gave us an opportunity for a miracle. The man calling the plays robbed them of that opportunity in the end. It was a big, unexcuseable mistake IN THE CLUTCH. He is a nice, good man who is probably a great influence on the kids. He can't call plays for crap. Move him to the line coach and promote Toby.

What you don't get is that they lined up in SHOTGUN and STILL RAN A QB KEEPER! It's not like they used your logic. They ran the keeper, but from five yards back instead of from the six inch line! In answer to your earlier question, yes, this is the OC we've had all year, but many of our big plays have been busted plays that were rescued and turned into miracles by great athletes - which is what GOT us to the six inch line.
-
What sucks is that WO-S, who was the #3 team still alive, had to meet the #2 team, while Kville got Sweeny. Seriously! WO-S would have beat Sweeny by 20+. Instead, one of the genuine contenders had to bow out, while another meat team gets to advance. I guess that's how the chips fall, but I'm allowed sour grapes, right? WO-S would likely have lost to Giddings anyway, but not this early. An off night against Sweeny would have been a game a little closer than it should have been but a win. An off night against Giddings was a close loss.

It just doesn't seem right that we meet and barely lose to the #2 team in the state when Kville and Silsbee get friggin Sweeny and Columbia - does it? -
WO-S's QB for next year looks OUTSTANDING in the time he played on varsity. His name is Ortavious Hypolite, but you can call him "Hippo." The future looks bright for the Stangs. I'll predict another district title.

Our offensive coordinator killed us, not arrogance. Not to mention the best opponent we have faced all year. Oh well, it could be worse... we could be BC -
Why did we leave Barber's Hill off of the poll? Where's the love?
-
Plus, "We beat Dayton" certainly sounds more impressive than "We beat Crosby," which is all BH has to hang their hats on.
-
Well, "sticks" are aplenty. The Mustang D will bring a Thanksgiving cornucopia full of them. I hope the Buffs are ready to give up some turnovers in response. We bring the hits, you bring the fumbles. Everyone brings something to the Thanksgiving table and everyone is happy.
-
No offense, but do you really think the bulldogs have the best shot of all the teams left? I'd say "homer pick," but good luck to em. I'd have to say WO-S or Newton.
-
Our district is 3-0 in the playoffs. They're the only team left from theirs, aren't they?
