If you don't want a team to run up the score, either stop them or match them. Wimberley put up more than 50 against us last year and no one complained. This is football, not figure skating. I didn't see any of the Liberty players sulking out there. You can't lay on the ball in the playoffs and stay sharp. Preacher, you sound like a whiner. WO-S could have put up 80 if they wanted to. Instead, we elected to get our JV guys some experience. Those weren't backups - they were JV players until this week. If you can't keep a JV team from scoring, you shouldn't be in the playoffs. P.S. - Our opponent for this week put up 62 on Wharton. We needed every second of playing time we could get for our stars.

As far as the score, WO-S is going into a likely matchup against their toughest opponent of the year. If nothing else, this was an opportunity to keep our guys warm for a big game. There is no room for mercy or playing nice in the playoffs. No offense, but the Stangs were up against a team that should not have been in the playoffs - but that's a subject for a thread on whether three teams in the playoffs waters down the system. I realize that it's harsh to say, but honestly - if you don't want to lose that badly, don't suck. Stop us. We are about to go into a game against a team ranked higher than us with an undefeated record and wins over several great teams. We need to be sharp. If it hurt your feelings, I'm sorry. Your kids showed a lot of class and hopefully understood that laying on the ball for a half is not the way to get ready for a run at the state title.

You quoted me on this post. Don't go to MY game and root on the Jags, or people will think you're "special." I'm a WO-S fan. We're the team that beat Dayton by 17 - the team who beat Central - which makes the statement above in bold seem unlikely.

Central isn't near 5A. They're in DII, after all.

If WO-S can contain the QB's running, they have the game won. Giddings will have to stop WO-S through the air AND on the ground to gain control.

Big night for DPG. The JV guys got in a few drives in the fourth quarter and scored on one. Our QB for next year (and the next) looked good - very Beasley-esque.

Certainly it is possible. However, that Nederland team was 8-2 going into the postseason and was only giving up 16.2 ppg, as opposed to 27.8 this year. Again - it could be done, but it would be a much bigger deal than beating Friendswood in 02.

22-4A and 21-3A should have a really nice week this week. It very well might be a clean sweep. Next week, however, things get tough. If my Mustangs clear Liberty this week, we'll likely face the #3 team, Giddings. That will be a challenge. It's also my understanding that one 4A team will have to contend with Lamar Consolidated, who is the real deal this year.

In some cases, recruiters assess not just what a kid IS, but what they think he COULD BE. In other words, one player might be a 5 on a scale of 10 (10 being Reggie Bush), but he might have the potential to develop into a 9. On the other hand, player B might be a 7, but he's already maxed out. I'm not saying this is the case with any specific Nederland players, but it's one reason some of the kids who shine in HS don't get the looks you'd expect and others get way more than we think they should.

WO-S 26 Dayton 9 Dayton went undefeated in that "TOUGH" district, but lost to the champs of the "weak" one. We might be in a "weak" district, but we're no pretenders.

It's Moseley. Even with the on-the-season numbers from the Deweyville guy, Moseley came very, very, very close to those numbers, even though he was injured and playing at the 4A level. No offense, but your stats lose some of their luster when you play schools like Beaumont Cathedral, Hardin and High Island.

If he wasn't 17, they would have left the name out. I don't have any problem with seeing it here. It's big news in HS football.
