  1. Maybe it does. In that case, by beating Dayton, WO-S beat "East of the Trinity."
  2. I predict that there will be enough purple at this game to make you want to puke grape jello. Dayton wins it easily.
  3. I don't see "knowing we could beat the great G/T." I see "knowing we beat the great G/T," nor do I see "the best thing WILL BE." I see "the best thing IS." I guess I should be able to read what you MEANT instead of what you SAID. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. Those are sort of the barriers of communication - the inability to mind read and all. Yes, we're holding on to a scrimmage because it's the only real evidence of how our teams would match up - or not match up, in your case. Did YOU not read all of the BH smack that was talked coming into that scrimmage? Did you not read the BH posters who said, "Promise me that you won't come back and whine that it was just a scrimmage?" I sure did. Thanks for not stooping to calling me a name. How big of you. I bet you're putting away your own finger paints now, too.
  4. I realize that non-district games don't factor in to who makes the playoffs, but they do count. Otherwise, we wouldn't keep the records. Besides - there are plenty of teams who stack their non-district schedules with tough teams who still come out of it with winning records. Newton has only lost two games. WO-S has done it for years and frequently came out undefeated. I just think that, in a perfect world, we wouldn't treat all districts equally. A district with only four abysmal teams should NOT be able to send three of them into the playoffs. OK, Buna. Imagine that your team was just placed in a 10-team district with the likes of Newton, Carthage, East Chambers, Deweyville, Anahuac and four other teams. Newton went undefeated. Buna, Carthage, East Chambers and Anahuac each lost just two games. Newton, Carthage and EC went to the playoffs, while Anahuac and Buna sit home at 8-2... a record that includes a non-district win over WO-S for Buna. Meanwhile, the neighboring district has only four teams. One of them went 3-7 and ended up as district champs. The others ended up 0-10, 2-8 and 1-9. The 3-7, 2-8 and 1-9 teams make the playoffs, while your beloved Cougars - after winning eight tough games - are sitting at home. That makes sense to you? Please explain.
  5. ... with a non-winning record be allowed in the playoffs? It's very likely that we'll meet up with now 3-6 Liberty in Round 1. Doesn't that really water things down? I don't know if there's a solution, but I'm guessing that there are at least a few eight-win teams sitting home.
  6. Please, can we PLEEEEEEEEEEASE just be a little more like a team that has basically been one-and-out of the playoffs since the Carter administration? PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE? I'm so jealous! We were just responding to Eagletown's post about "beating the Golden Triangle" when you didn't play a single team. "Them wife beaters?" Dude... how hillbilly can you get? Oh, wait... "hill" billy... I dig it...
  7. We've played there several times in recent years. I like it pretty well. Did we play Giddings there last year? I certainly preferred Lufkin, though Now THAT is a jumbotron!
  8. It's about the typical distance for one of our playoff games, anyway. In 2000, we played the Dome three times, Pasadena once, Conroe once, and finally in Texas Stadium. The most nearby stadium I can remember playing in was Memorial Field in 98. I sort of like the far-off fields. Turf is always nice, and we should be accustomed to it this year already, since the Dayton and Bay City games were both on really nice turf. I can't believe you Liberty guys have never played on turf! It gives your guys a whole extra gear.
  9. Yep. At the same time, our teams are that small for a reason. Cut off the fat and dead weight and keep only those who are genuinely hungry, determined and up to the challenge. We may only have 25 players, but at least we know they're all "players." We've played a lot of teams who had 40 kids suited out and only four or five "players." That's why teams like LCM and Lumberton shouldn't be discouraged when players start bailing under a new coach. They should be encouraged. It's purging your program of the losers.
  10. LCM-WOS doesn't really qualify as a "rivalry," does it? It's a "no love lost" game to be sure, but it is SO one-sided that it doesn't really fit the bill. There's no game that compares to PN-G/Ned in our area. It's a great tradition that goes back forever.
  11. That would be a great rematch. I'd love to see it. Both teams have improved tremendously since that first week. If we'd only known in Week 0 what a huge game we were watching - probably the two best teams in the area.
  12. I'd say Kenneth Beasley was a "great." He was dominant at four positions: QB, WR, CB, KR/PR.
  13. I agree in many respects, but Hooks took over a program that was five years old. It kind of falls under the N/A umbrella there. I wouldn't say they "struggled." While they did go 5-5 one year, they followed it with two 8-2 seasons - a record for which MOST programs would kill. Also, I think we have to consider whether some staff members can do more harm than good regardless of the head coach. Not to point the finger, but one of the coordinators who was with WO-S in the non-Thompson years is now in the same position at Ozen. I think being a great head coach is not just about coaching itself, but surrounding yourself with people who buy into your way of thinking and mold kids to fit your program. Does that make sense?
  14. If it's down to Hooks and Stewart, let's base it on the head-to-head Here's my list. I had written a long argument for each and why I put them where they are. Then my computer crashed, so I lost it. I'll keep it very brief. THE BEST (no particular order) Hooks - Raise your hand if your program is in our area and has a winning record against his. Thank you very much. Barbay - They named the stadium after Hooks. One day, they'll name the city after Barbay. Stowers - When he came to Central, they were this year's Ozen. He turned them around IMMEDIATELY, and it was clearly no fluke. Neumann - With about the same amount of raw talent as Vidor and Lumberton, he's brought his program well above those and almost to the level of programs such as WO-S and Newton. Never in first in district, but always good enough to play at least 11. Stewart - See the last sentence of Neumann's profile. Stewart brought his team into one of the state's most traditionally-bruising districts and won it - dominating most games. GOOD BUT NOT QUITE ELITE Moody - A change was desperately needed in bear country. If this year is any indication, they'll soon be beating everyone but WO-S. Credeur - Clearly, there is a different attitude among the Raiders and the community. On the other hand, the team is still in the district cellar. Morrison - Butting heads with state-caliber heavyweights on an almost weekly basis is one thing, but it's another to do it with a team that most area schools and fans chalk up as an automatic "W." To know that you are a perennial homecoming pencil-in for many opponents and STILL have as much heart as the Cats is a big deal. That's coming from the coaches. Cool guy, and I like his team. OVERRATED Matthews - I'm sorry, but I just am not impressed with what he has done in the time he's had. As often as not, his teams have been as dismal as any of his predecessors'. I know he's a nice guy and fired up. Clearly he knows football. I don't know if he's just in the wrong place or what, but all of this "new life in Vidor" stuff wore off a few years ago with me. There have been several D1 players and prospects to roll through Vidor (I'd be willing to say they have more raw talent than Nederland on many occasions). I think he could probably be an outstanding coordinator somewhere - maybe even head coach in a different setting. I'm just not in the "he's made a world of difference in Vidor" crowd. Clayton - This team is loaded with talent and can do nothing. Much of it is a lack of discipline and "T.O. Syndrome." Everyone wants to throw the ball, run the ball or catch the ball. No one wants to play the line. No one wants to play defense. I'm thinking, however, that some of the problems lie in the coordinator positions - one in particular. I can't put Burnett in this category, because I think PN-G fans - while appreciative of what he has accomplished - recognize that a change is probably needed. Good coach, but things have gone south. All of that being said, I don't know Jack S**t.
  15. How did you beat the Golden Triangle again? You were absolutely humiliated in a scrimmage against WO-S (I mean HU-MIL-EE-AY-TED). Other than that, the closest you came to beating a G/T team was Jasper, and they're about 70 miles north of being in the "triangle." So where did you beat us again? You'll get your first shot if you make it to a matchup against Central.
  16. WINK WINK He finds these players living in the WO-S school district. The only "big name transfer" is Earl Thomas, who transferred BACK to WO-S after a year or two at LC-M. Also, look at some of the players we've lost. I might be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure Central QB Brandon Williams is a WO-S ex.
  17. To be honest, I don't see Nederland making much of a run this year. As a potential 5-5 team, it's weird to see them likely headed for the postseason. They've averaged just over one win per year over the last five years, and this is certainly not one of their stronger teams in that span. The defense appears to be seriously hurting. I can't imagine this being one of those "magical" runs. If they run into Lamar Consolidated, it's over. The fat lady said she's not even coming to the game. She'll listen on the radio.
  18. Kirbyville by 17.
  19. So what you're saying is that a WO-S game would be twice as nice to see as a BH game (even though you're from BH). Cool.
  20. Gotta get past us in the playoffs, Balla... and don't start talking now like you did before that smoking last month.
  21. I have to be really honest here - a Kville rematch is the least of our playoff concerns. The first game was a breeze. I know your QB was out. I know you had a starter on D out. I'll give ya a TD to compensate and we only win by 23. WO-S takes it again easily.
  22. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaait a minute... Isn't this kind of talk what got WO-S fans in hot water after the Silsbee game? Maybe Rhodes was just THAT GOOD!
  23. A 5-5 team in the playoffs... I never would have thought this 4A district would become one of THOSE.
