  1. I believe PN-G played "skins."
  2. They qualified before this tournament. Therefore, rules prevent them from advancing.
  3. If I'm not mistaken, he was killed in Iraq. God bless him and his family.
  4. Coryatt played for the Colts and the Cowboys. He was awesome at A&M, but never reached his potential as a pro.
  5. I don't think it's going to happen this year. Ask us around Week 7 about next year. We should be seeing some turnaround by then - at least in attitude - by then.
  6. I'm thinking Nederland has a shot, but Brenham will be a tough day for PN-G. If the mid-county teams were switched, I'd say PN-G had a shot against LM, but that Brenham would be a tough day for Big Ned. Brenham is looking like the real deal.
  7. If Vidor could only manage four total wins and one district win last year - when they returned 10 starters on each side of the ball - I don't see them having much shot at the district title with just four on each side this year. I really don't think the coachng is there, and (I'll probably be hanged for this, but it's honest) sometimes I'm stunned to see the pedestal upon which some still put the Pirates' coaching staff. One playoff appearance and a 29-32 record isn't horrible, but not enough to garner the praise I often hear. Granted, it's better than what preceded the current leadership, but I would think that with both enrollment and demographics that almost mirror that of Nederland and PN-G, the expectations in Vidor would be for performance to do the same. Certainly the attitude of players and fans in Vidor have turned around, and maybe that is enough. But it hasn't been enough to "turn around" the program yet. I wish them only the best, but I'm certainly in the "skeptics" column at this point after such high expectations last year.
  8. Also, regarding your word "spanked" - aren't words that end in "ed" usually verbs (action words)? You used it as a noun, like: "WO-S delivered a real spanked to BH." It should be "spanking." Thanks for letting us know about that word, though. We don't get many "spankings" down this way, so it's nice to hear from someone who has experienced them enough to have a proper understanding of the word - if not grammar. Is "alternANTE" Latin?
  9. Thanks for sharing! I'll save that one. Here's one for you: Humiliation: the intense, unpleasant inner burning of being bounced from the playoffs by a lowly Kirbyville team two years in a row.
  10. And I think I'm asking a relevant question when I ask whether y'all have fewer athletes now than in the mid-90s. While I can't imagine that that is the case, it would explain the plummet. If not, something else is factoring in. Right?
  11. I realize what he said. I'm responding to the post in which you said we had not made it past the first round in seven years. If that was a typo, then fine - it happens to the best.
  12. Actually, what I read in the earlier post was this, verbatim: I don't see "more than once," "only once" or "once" in there. Maybe it was said in an even earlier post, but I was responding to THIS post. Having noted that, I think mentioning the 2000 wins is relevant. Re-stating my earlier question: Does LC-M have fewer athletes now than they did in the mid-90s?
  13. Actually, in 2000, right in the middle of that stretch, we went to the sixth round. That's not a seven year stretch, but a two-year period and a four-year period. Also, that stretch was broken last year. With no disrespect intended, those years of success for the bears were both the beginning and the end of such prominence. Does LC-M have fewer athletes now than they did in 94-96? We certainly do.
  14. Let's all stop arguing about what makes the WO-S program superior. Just let it be.
  15. I don't disagree that we're considerably more talented, but some of the posts here make it sound as if every talented player runs for the hills from lcm. When you have a program that has been as bad as that one, some of the blame falls on the coaches, some the players, some the community.
  16. Maybe we should compare regular season wins over that stretch as well. As far as playoffs, you omitted the years on either end, in which WO-S won a combined eight playoff games.
  17. We have no one running a 4.0 or 4.1 - likely no one at 4.4, even. Let's stick to reality.
  18. According to this thread, Whistle Britches says the bears have: That sounds like plenty of speed to me. We know they always have size. Size+speed is a pretty good equation, isn't it? We've been a small but quick team for years. Maybe they just need the right person in place to help them utilize the tools at their disposal.
  19. The two transfers that were referred to early in this line of discussion were LaDarius White and Earl Thomas. As I pointed out earlier, Earl Thomas was a WO-S kid up until shortly before his freshman year, I think, when he transferred to LC-M. Apparently, he decided to come back home and returned to WO-S for his sophomore and junior seasons. LD came over last year. But let's not discount the kids who leave WO-S and become starters in green and gold, which also happens fairly regularly. The "word" has always been that the rigorous program at WO-S drives them away. I don't know that it's necessarily the truth - just what I've heard. But I look at last year's bears roster and see some big WRs, an all-state-caliber TE, a highly-praised QB, etc. There is clearly talent there - including Jacorey Walker, one of our starters from the year before. There may be some difference in talent level (clearly you have no K. Beasley, but who does?) but not enough for the opposite ends of the spectrum at which these programs sit.
  20. Losing players to area schools is a problem that we all face. After all, let's not forget that Earl Thomas started out at WO-S, transferred to LC-M and then transferred BACK after his freshman year. JaCorey Walker, your leading rusher last year, was a transfer from WO-S to you guys. Earl has been with WO-S for the past two seasons. He was only at LC-M as a freshman. Both before and after that, he was a Mustang. Still, there have been countless players to leave the blue and silver to play for you guys, just as there have been vice versa. Somehow, coaches have to be able to overcome it. We lost a very good young back to Central last year. We lost several linemen due to the hurricane. But the players who remained continued to be loyal and to believe in what they were put there to accomplish. Losing a few players - even star players - shouldn't kill a TEAM. If the coaching has changed and the players are working hard, then where is the problem?
  21. Probably as many as can say their program has never made the playoffs. Good JV teams don't always translate to good varsity teams. This is a program that lost to Gulf Shores Academy last year. That is a major deal. A new head coach and a winning JV are two big steps, but overcoming the stigma of a perennial "losing program" will take time. Good luck to 'em, but I don't see them in the playoff race this year. Maybe they'll shock me!
  22. He saw all of the last few games very, very clearly, because I was still rolling around on the bench in front of him after hearing how two teams actually lost to Kirbyville in the playoffs.
  23. If the bears win district, it will be one of the biggest upsets of all time. I don't see it happening this year. I almost hope they do, though. Those "The Hit List" shirts are looking pretty tattered, but they are still wearing them. Is a 10-0 season really that insanely rare that you wear a shirt for 12 years? We've had four since then
  24. Man, you guys whine a lot about this "west of the Trinity" stuff. Waaah waah. Do something to get attention and maybe someone will pay it. There have been tons of threads relating both directly and indirectly to both Dayton and BH. I have been to countless games involving teams out of our area. What's your point?
  25. You BH guys... livin' in the past
