  1. This is good advice. Not not just for cops, but anyone who writes. Writers should always say what they’re saying in the simplest, most direct way. Avoid jargon, filler words, etc. “It should be noted” is a great example. I also love “detained in handcuffs” when “I handcuffed him” would be more direct. I think people — Even experts — are afraid to write simply, as if that would betray a lack of expertise or professionalism. The truth is the opposite. A straight line is the shortest distance between two points, and a good sentence is the shortest distance to an idea. I enjoyed your write up.
  2. PNG came in at something like 1705, Nederland about 150 less
  3. Any Huntsville people who want to share their thoughts? This seems like a weird hire. Of course, a coach can exceed past performance with a new school, but I thought a program like Huntsville would look for someone with a higher profile and better record, or at least a promising first-time HC.
  4. Any word on the Huntsville coaching search?
  5. Sorry, that was me
  6. Is this the first United head coach who wasn’t a former coach at one of the Beaumont schools?
  7. Nederland had good (and sometimes great) LB play last year.
  8. I didn’t know about this. That’s crazy.
  9. Ty Bryson for offense. I’m not familiar enough to have an opinion on defense.
  10. Key question: What is Lufkin’s policy on coaching decisions re: the superintendent’s offspring?
  11. Plot twist: Super makes himself head coach and finally realizes his son belongs on the bench. Fires himself for not playing him.
  12. Art Briles is my vote
  13. My mistake — These reports from multiple sources are all entirely made up. The superintendent is perfect, BH is a paradise workplace, and coaches are BEGGING to work there.
