Yeah - three years in a row with an area round exit has to hurt, especially after dropping down. They simply aren’t prepared for the playoffs.

Kaufman (21) vs Port Neches-Groves (42) - FINAL
Rez replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football
A Kaufman radio guy is standing behind me - Keeps talking to his audience about how this could be the beginning of a big comeback for Kaufman. Doesn’t seem to realize we’re running with backups. Or that there’s a minute left -

PNG backup offense took the entire first six minutes of the 3rd. Even with the interception, I love it. -

I don’t know why Kaufman is punting. You’re already getting blown out. You don’t have any hope of coming back if you don’t have the ball. Just go for it. -

Kaufman making mistakes now. Kickoff returner stepped out at the 3 yard line -
It’s not Bailey’s fault. The OC has had all season to figure out how to scheme the other receivers open. The OC thinks Bailey is better than he is and that the receivers are faster than they are. So, he calls plays like he’s holding a video game controller. I think we’ve got defensive speed on the sideline that the coaches just aren’t willing to use. I’m sure they know something I don’t. But from what I can see, our kicker is better at pursuing and hitting the runner than our CBs. No. 22 likes hitting people and is fast and he’s on the sideline. And that’s just the ones I can remember. There’s still some starting who shouldn’t be. We need hungry hunters out there and I’m not seeing it from our secondary. In every play there’s at least one guy who seems to hope the ball doesn’t come toward him, or that someone else will tackle him. Last year our DBs wanted contact. Another thing we’re missing on defense is we’re too easily blockable. We used to run through blocks. This year, we’re trying to get around blocks. If a blocker can get you to try to get around him instead of simply crashing the lane he’s blocking, he’s won without having to touch you.

Texarkana Texas (56) vs Nederland (14) - FINAL
Rez replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football
I watched Nederland and PNG’s JV game. I think both will improve in the secondary next year. -
I hope brenham runs them out of the stadium

Nederland has an above-average defensive line. And, even with all the complaints about Nederland’s secondary, I would feel pretty good about their chances if they can put pressure on the qb and slow down the run game. Even with no one else on the field, passes (especially deep ones) are likely to be dropped, much more so with some pressure on the qb.
-
I heard Coach Southern say on this week’s podcast that he thought it was the 4th qb. I’ve got family at white house and I know they have some great talent coming up in the freshman class.
-
Isn’t Whitehouse on their 2nd or 3rd string qb?
-
We need to work on short passes out of our normal run formation to open up the run. These throws down the sideline are just a coin flip, and do nothing to make the LBs guess.
-
I couldn’t see the secondary too well on the broadcast, but it looked like Ned was in prevent defense in Montgomery’s last drive —- Exactly what Montgomery needed. If I’m right, Ned ceded the mid-range (so, first downs) sideline against a team that needed 60 yards and had no (maybe 1?) timeouts. I may be alone in hating the prevent defense except in Hail Mary situations, but I think if Nederland had lined up in their normal defense in the last drive they would have stopped Montgomery. But I could be wrong about their formation since I couldn’t really see the secondary. It just seemed like those mid-range sideline passes were handed to Montgomery.

I like Nederland’s chances against Texas High. Hubert Thomas can score a lot against Texas High. THigh’s defense isn’t anything special, and nederland’s defense matches up well against Texas High’s running back. I think a lot of people might be surprised on Friday.

The fans were screaming some pretty out of line things at the refs. Lots of profanity. You could even hear it on the broadcast. That kind of stuff makes more penalties likely.
