Relevant example from yesterday. Short version - Bills get ball back with 30 seconds left in the game. Throw three deep incompletions. Leave Texans enough time to run a play and kick the game-winning field goal. (Incompletions give the other team clock time. Calling high-variable pass plays is bad clock management).

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and "vibe" .  I would like to compare stats because from what I saw Huntsville would not have been in the game if not for a fake punt and some random offense success with QB runs . However I totally agree with finding a way win statement. IMO finding a way to win is the mark of a true champion.

It goes both ways. We would likely not have won if we didn’t get gifted an interception, a fumble on the kickoff, and a roughing the passer play that negated an interception. We’re at best as good as Huntsville. We had some really good plays and some really good luck. But, if your conclusion from this game is we’re significantly better than Huntsville, we didn’t watch the same game. The lesson I hope we take from this game is a profound dose of humility. We just need to play the game in front of us and keep working hard. There are teams out there more than good enough to punish us for our mistakes, and they won’t make the same mistakes Huntsville made.

  3. MLC is going to win big. Montgomery embarrassed them, but rivalry games are rivalry games, and Montgomery came in with something to prove. MLC had just come off an emotional loss. They’re still dangerous and very well-coached. We haven’t seen anything from Dayton to suggest they can do on offense what Montgomery and PNG did to MLC, or contain MLC’s speed. Has anyone heard anything about the injury status for MLC? Is Dayton’s Qb still out?

  4. West Fork has been solid for a young first-year team. But, Nederland rolls and gets some good reps against the run (and gets some good offensive reps against a good-ish run defense. Even though Huntsville overpowered them, I was impressed with WF’s  physicality at the point of attack).

Well it went to the wire as expected.  Huntsville had their chances.  A couple of turnovers and some critical penalties made a big difference in this one.
Hornet offense very vanilla in the 1st half.  Looked like they were just playing for a stalemate.  Giving up the 10 before half was big.  I figured they would open it up in the 2nd half and show something different.  I think they only used the one RB all night #5.  Only saw the other RB on the kickoff and he fumbled.

#15 for PNG refused to be tackled.  Offensive line opened up some holes.  PNG didn’t turn it over and made fewer mistakes.  What a finish with the FG off the upright.
PNG probably glad to get to the cupcake part of the schedule now for the next 2 weeks.

It was a good game, and certainly one that could have gone the other way. Both teams are doing a few things right, and both have a lot to work on. As far as readiness for the playoffs, I’d say both teams are in the exact same place: We’re good, but we‘ll need to be better to go far.

And, Huntsville probably has the prettiest high school stadium I’ve ever seen.
