Nah they’re not sitting anyone…Desoto is missing it’s best player BTW!

Diff in this game is Desoto finally has kids in the trenches who can match DV upfront & when DV can’t out athlete you they in trouble. Cause they don’t do anything special from a schematics standpoint

  2. Figure we might as well get this started. What does Nederland have to do to beat Texas City? My gut says TC wins (and I think they’re a dark horse for the regional final), but I’m back to cheering for Nederland, so here goes.

This is an interesting matchup because the two teams are loosely similar.  They both tend to rely on one or two receivers, a key RB, and a more-or-less consistent dual threat QB. Where Ned falls off is TC is more consistent in their level of play, makes fewer mistakes, and is more physical. While most of the attention has been on PNG, FBM, and even Nederland (as the surprising contender in the season), TC has quietly stacked up double-digit wins. They have a strong defense and a score-at-any-moment offense.

On the other hand, Nederland feels like the half-cooked model of Texas City. Similar, but less complete. Dangerous, but not always dangerous. Sunday will need to play mistake-free. I think we can expect Nederland to get better from MCM. So, let’s hear it.

Nederland has never had big lineman but a handful of times that I can remember. PNG seems to have the better line, while seems Nederland have the better skill position players. And ever since faircloth came around better qb play that has continued…

Nederland had good size in the trenches in the 2012-2015 era, and it was complimented with serious conditioning.

Let me understand something:  PNG was on the go alone twice and couldn’t score?  May a FG and missed a FG.  How did they not score this close?

We have to clean that up for the playoffs. I think we had four trips (among others) to the red zone that combined resulted in three points. I would need to watch the film to check that. But our red zone performance was so-so tonight. Our receivers need to get more consistent on receptions. The passes are there. Bailey was scary accurate tonight. A lot of drops.

We're talking about two different things here. This play was incredibly fast and holding would be nearly impossible, especially almost a tackle

That’s how the calls have gone all night. Some have gone against PNG with equal head-shaking. These refs aren’t great. There was also a non-call on holding earlier that sprang Sunday for a first down.

People put on the nostalgia tinted glasses and remanece about the good old days of law breaking in the name of a rivalry then turn around and blow up facebook about how terrible kids are now lol

"All these kids cursing and sagging these days. Back in my day we destroyed public property like proper citizens!"

Right - The site holds a congressional committee every time someone sneezes from a little chalk in the air, and we’re supposed to believe it would be better if the kids were actually doing purposeful harm.

I saw one Nederland student is going to need more than Daddy's Money to avoid jail time. We had so much more fun with the rivalry in the 90's and now all it comes to is some twitter comments and half-@$$ snide chants.

Need to do better and get back to burning letters in fields, egging yard signs, egging the stands, stuff like that.

No - Criminality doesn’t make a rivalry “better.” It makes it dumber, that’s all.

On a serious note. It’s a far cry from the old days. Waking up, reading what Bob West or Tom Halliburton wrote up Tuesday through Friday. The area coverage definitely isn’t what it once was. The rivalry is a lot calmer than it once was… I had a hand in burning some strategic letters on a certain field. But this game never goes as planned, other than the Ethridge years, Malone years, and Neauman years. So I expect it to be a battle from beginning to end. No prediction, because this game is simply unpredictable…… I do think it’s a huge game for Monte. But we are getting closer.

I miss the coverage. Now, with old media and the newspapers dying, it’s probably all they can afford to do a post-game write up.

For PNG, will I. Nguyen get over 200 yards rushing?  Thoughts?

I only watched Nederland against Santa Fe and FBM. The way their d-line played against Santa Fe, I thought PNG would have no trouble at all running against Nederland. The Bulldogs were better against the run for FBM, but FBM tends to do a lot of “run to the side, then try to cut up” stuff and Nederland was able to blow that up. PNG goes right at you, and the Indian o-line is very good, very aggressive, and they work well as a unit. That’s going to be a problem for the Bulldogs. They might try what Dayton did and pull everyone up close for the run. For dayton, that exposed the secondary more than literally pulling their pants down and Bailey had a career night. But for Nederland, that might tempt PNG into an interception.
