Another thing with PNG their defense and special teams gave their offense a lot of short fields last year that I can remember/ and or defense score. I wanna say someone said PNG D last year had either most turnovers in single season or something?
I don’t know that. But, the d and special teams did more than their part, that’s for sure.

I watched a bit more Klein Oak film from last year. Of course, last year isn’t a reliable indicator of what this year will be, but absent a huge player turnover or a coaching change it can give us an idea of what kind of ball they play and what kind of players they put on the field. So, I’m revising my original 17-14 prediction (for what it’s worth). KO’s lines aren’t good. Defense is soft. They do sling the ball around well, and it looks like they’ve had some strong runners, but with a bad oline, we’ll take the runners out of the game. I think they’ll give our secondary some good reps, but I don’t think this stays a ball game for more than a half. PNG wins by at least three touchdowns.

"Last year was last year this year is this year"....Mike Johnston head coach Katy Tigers 2000
Nederland will line up under center something PN-G I don't imagine will be doing too much
I’d say neither PNG and Huntsville are trying to light up the scoreboard. The last two years, PNg has been all about ball and clock control. We held the ball for 9 min straight against Brenham last year. Had a similar long stretch against Leander Rouse. The Indians aren’t trying to score as much as they can. It’s just “play good defense and keep the ball moving, preferably on the ground.” Huntsville is similar. Montgomery Lake Creek is definitely different from that. They’d keep their starters in against a kindergarten. Dayton I think will be a high-scoring team once Prieto gets going, but he’ll improve their defense a bit.
Overall, Nederland and PNG are about to look very similar. From what I saw at the Ned scrimmage, they’ll look like a more direct copy of Katy than PNG. But, that’s just nuance; PNG runs up the middle, Ned will do a lot of play action and runs to the outside. And, PNG lines up under center all the time. MCM is going to be two teams lining up and smashing into each other for 4 quarters. I’m for it.

Man the rain chance percentage keeps going up. I blame yall rivals for it, someone or some mascot been doing a rain dance this week 😁
Think of the rain as a giant sprinkler system. We just want the Bulldogs to feel at home.

So,
Watched United vs Channelview
In the non-timed portion, C'view 2-1
In the timed 2 quarters, United 4, C'view 0
United has a QB with a gun and an interesting back story.
However, the WR couldn't get much seperation
The secondary needs work because the tunnel screen, bubble screen, and post were open often. It may be an issue with alignment
I was plesantly surprised at BU's numbers
Any estimate on BU’s numbers? Westbrook had 42-45 suited up against Nederland.

Saw where Huntsville scored twice in controlled part. Lufkin did not score.
In the 1st live quarter, Huntsville up 10-0.
I watched the Huntsville live quarters. Hard to judge Huntsville based on that scrimmage - They might be good, they might be about to win state. They’re big, fast, and seem to be picking up where they left off last season. Reason it’s hard to judge is Lufkin looks terrible. Fumbles, bad passes that get intercepted, very little push from the O-line. From start to finish, Lufkin looked entirely out of sorts. Just a scrimmage, so still time for Lufkin to put it together. Anyway, Huntsville is going to be solid.

New Caney vs Lake Creek scrimmage.
lake Creek has scored 5 times. NC has not got past the thirty. Going to be a long long season. BH should win by a large margin next week. NC still trying to find QB1.
Lake creek is in the coverage area. I think New Caney is too.

Brand new one just for them, I heard

Normally I’d say The Reservation, but Huntsville just built a new stadium. I’d need to see it first.

I don’t know much about Klein Oak. It looks like they’re in a decent district, and they’ve got some good size. I think we’ll be able to stop the run, and our pass rush is led by veterans. I think PNG wins it, but it’s going to be a rough, low-scoring game. I’m thinking 17-14 PNG.
-
I don’t have my Texas Football magazine in front of me, but I think they’re bringing back some star power from their state run. And, didn’t Jasper lose their good LB? So, just on experience and games played, I’d say 35-21 TCH.

Let’s get it going

Anymore on Lcm? In theory they shouldn’t even be able to get a yard against a 5a state championship team. What are the goods and bars about the team
The secondary flies around. D-line got pushed around against the PNG 1s, but that’s just good reps for a scrimmage. Pretty fast to the edge by qb and Rb. Qb is a dual threat. Receivers had trouble finding space, but there’s some speed there. Nothing mind blowing, but I thought they looked well-coached and prepared.

He went down in the 1st half and didn’t return. Big run, he was bracing for impact about to truck the DB. The DB made a business decision and moved out of the way. Chatanier landed on his shoulder. He didn’t play the rest of the 1st half. Did he come back in the 2nd?
No - he was done after the first half.

Hubert is a beast this year...I think the numbers might have something to do with the incident at the high school from last night cause not everyone went to class today
That makes sense - I heard about a threat of some kind. Are you not allowed to suit up if you miss class on game day? I think that’s the rule, but I’m not sure.
-
Any report on Nederland? I stuck my nose in the first 15 min or so of their scrimmage, then went to see PNG. Ned RB has put on some muscle - broke several tackles. Also, Ned’s numbers seem way down. I counted about 37 suited up. PNG had about 65 today.

How many is on png Varsity?
About 65 suited up. LCM has about 39.

PNG at 17-0 over LCM after two game condition quarters.

Whichever CB for LCM is wearing #4 is really playing well tonight.

I was already looking forward to seeing what Huntsville does this year. Now Matt’s laid down the gauntlet lol

That PAM loss was our good luck charm. I don’t know what we’ll do without it.

The offense this year will be a lot better than the last couple of years. But, I think it will seem to not be the case for a few games - The line is learning an entirely new blocking scheme. Though I only saw about 12 plays on offense for Nederland at the scrimmage, I thought some of the players looked a little confused. That’s a good thing - It means Coach Rich is making them learn to do it right, not just handing them something that “works”but isn’t exactly correct. Once they “really” get it (my guess is it will take a few games) I think a lot of people will be impressed. The biggest question mark for me will be can they run it up the middle consistently. It’s clear Ned can go to the outside because they’ve got the speed for it (PNg hasn’t the last two years. I’m hoping that changes this year). But those outside runs really open up when you’ve proven that you can punish the defense if they don’t crowd the box. If you can go up the middle for 3-4 yards a play AND run to the outside consistently, the defense is screwed.
