Just based on the numbers, this game should be a bench-clearing shutout for PNG. I expect the game to be similar to the Willow Ridge game, however, for the observers, with pretty much plain vanilla play calling. Don't ever take any high school game for granted, but it would be handy if SF runs similar defense and offense as Nederland for us.

They run a lot. I’m not sure if that’s by design or if their passing game is just bad, but their passing game is also not anything to write home about. They moved the ball against Nederland (only game I watched them live) for a while, but they don’t have much firepower, and that was in a game I didn’t think Nederland played well. There was very little at all impressive about Santa Fe in that game. Their uniforms look good - That’s one positive.  Almost no speed, small, passive. I honestly don’t see a path to them scoring against our starters. If Nederland had played on defense the way they played against FBM for three quarters, Santa Fe wouldn’t have scored at all.

I’m ok with vanilla play calling in this game. Something I like about this coaching staff is they use their opportunities to hammer fundamentals. We could have scored 60 on Beaumont United, but what does the team learn from that? If you’re lighting up the scoreboard, you’re probably not doing plays that challenge your weaknesses. If I had my way, PNG would use the game to get the Qb and the receivers more passing reps, because that’s where we have less experience.

With or without the MCM magic, Nederland will have a hard time containing #33 for PNG.  Ned’s problem has been the defense.  In that light, I don’t see them containing #22 for TC either.  But, one can’t dismiss PNG’s defense.  They are tough because they are well coached!  So, I see 1-2 over the next three weeks.

I’ll leave PNG #33 to the side right now because it’s all been said. But TC’s #22 is a monster. Heavier and taller than most running backs, and faster than he looks. It takes two or three guys to bring him down most of the time.

Ned’s defense took a step forward against FB Marshall. And, Tezino and Thomas have serious speed. Those are the biggest pluses for Nederland. And, Sunday has guts and wheels. That’s not nothing.

For MCM, my gut says PNG wins. The defense isn’t a fluke - It’s crazy consistent and has shown very few gaps. And the offense is pushing people around.

But, it’s MCM (you only have to go one year back to when PNG barely beat a Nederland team that is significantly worse than this year) and Nederland IS getting better, despite all the frustrating mistakes, and I think Nederland is good enough to take advantage of any wild weirdness MCM brings. On paper, PNg is better across the board, but the game is played on the field. So, we’ll just have to play the game. If I was betting, I’d say PNG by 10.

I’m more confident predicting Texas City because that game won’t have the same X-factor MCM does - based on total body of work and coaching, TC has every advantage against Nederland. I don’t think that game will be close, no matter what happens the week before.

I am pretty sure that is correct.  Ned would have head to head wins vs the bottom 4 in the district if they beat GP.   Then its mainly seeding with the MCM and TC games.

And, (knock on wood) if Nederland wins out and PNG only loses to Nederland, Ned and PNG share district title and Ned gets the 1 seed.

FBM would have at least two losses, TC would have at least two losses, and Dayton would have at least two, leaving the Mid County schools on top with one district loss each.

We may both be off % wise on Public school review, the ratio is 86% minority. 99.9% football and community I may be closer.

Making hiring decisions on a race restricted basis is a violation of civil liberties (Assuming it’s true that that is what happened, which I don’t know if it is).

Not to mention, the past two years prove it’s a flawed approach to hiring (if that’s how the hiring decision was made). The destruction to the WOS program and culture is obvious, and shocking.

Let’s ask the kids: Would they rather have a coach, of any color, that gets them to state and gives them the best shot at college, or would they rather have a coach of a specific color?

They’ll pick the coach that can get them to state and to college, every time.

In other words (Again, assuming this is true, of which I am ignorant) a profound irreparable disservice was done to these players so that a few self-righteous adults can tell themselves they scored political correctness points. Good job. I’m glad this experiment is failing (if that’s what it was). When it’s time to pick a new coach, I hope the people of WOS find the best possible candidate, on a color-blind basis.

  5. PNG will probably be a 40-point favorite, so the order of the day is don’t go in complacent and looking forward to MCM. The last thing we need is to mess around and give Santa Fe the game.  And, don’t let what will likely be a cupcake team make us soft coming up on Nederland. This week needs to be a tune-up. Hopefully Bailey and the WRs can continue to gel, and we can escape with no injuries.

Wouldn't PNG get the title outright if somehow they lost one even though they beat Texas City.

I may be wrong, but I think if Texas city and PNG have the same record they share the title, but png would get the 1st seed because they won the head-to-head with TC.

I think the district title will be settled in Nederland at the end of this month imo.

I think Texas City will beat Nederland. If that happens, MCM will likely decide whether PNG gets the district title outright or shares with Texas City.

Somebody posted that Nederlands defense is better than PNGs, and not even close.

I’d definitely give PNG a significant edge on defense, and it’s not much of an argument.
Nederland’s defense fluctuates between “dang that was a really good play” and “are they even trying?” PNG’s defense is ahead of schedule from where they were last year, and they keep getting more and more dangerous. Add that to an offense that is getting more balanced, with an increasingly sharpshooter QB, and PNG is almost ready for Mid-County Madness.

What Nederland has going for them is they seem to get better every week (giving them a confusing “it” factor - Like, are they bad or good? If we changed nothing about this team but the penalties and mistakes, how much better are they? I think, a lot better) and serious speed in the open field (something they could exploit similarly to the Dayton qb’s running around against us).

Thomas had 211 yds rushing and Sunday had 82 yds passing so I would say the o-line did ok.   The defense and special teams!! needs some work but they are getting the stops when they need it the last couple of games.  These guys are still young, but they seem to be going in the right direction once district started.   I wouldn't count them out.

I may be mistaken, but it seemed to me nearly all of those rushing yards were around the edge, not between the tackles. Thomas is fast. (Shockingly fast. It was crazy to watch. He and Tezino both). I hesitate to the give the o-line credit for the rushing yards.

I’m not counting them out. I’ve been saying since last year the Bulldogs will be back sooner than people think. I was wrong on the timing, and it’s not clear how much more progress they need to make to be where they used to be, but they’re coming along.
