That was before the 5A classification split. If you go back and search I said “Splitting the classification is the best thing that could’ve happened to this area.” It’s the main reason Crosby went to state. For instance, in the old format College Station, Lamar Fulshear, Angleton, Crosby and BH all would’ve been in the same R3-5A-D2 bracket with PNG this year. Not saying y’all still wouldn’t have went to state, just saying that would’ve been the bracket.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the SETX 5A-D2 district is sending their 2nd team to the finals in 5 years since the split. The district has also played in 3/5 semifinals since the split. You still have to be great to get there but the classification splits have been extremely beneficial in general to this coverage area.

I was thinking that last night- the last several years the semifinal for 5ad2 has been liberty hill vs our district (of course Crosby is no longer in our district, but I’m speaking loosely of our group)

  2. What a defensive showing. The offense was great, and tonight made clear the difference it makes to have so many weapons and to be so well-conditioned - the o line made massive holes for Nguyen. But to hold Liberty hill scoreless in the second half - you could see in their player’s composure as the game wore on and the clock kept ticking - they were shocked. They didn’t expect to not be able to move the ball at will like they usually do, and after that first big run it looked like it could be a long night for png. But that defense stepped up again in a huge way.

What a game, what a coaching performance. What a team. If you had told me after game 1 when PAM took us to the woodshed that we would be playing at AT&T I’d have thought you were on drugs.

What did png do to adjust after the memorial blowut lose that has them playing successfully and in the state semi finals

    (1) First game with a new coach; (2) early mistakes threw off their whole game plan, and they weren’t able to respond mentally; (3) Port Arthur came in with a well-oiled machine under an established coach and a lot of returning starters that was ranked in the top ten in 5aD1, perfectly set for taking advantage of every single mistake and matchup problem (of which there were several).

The loss looked better and better as the season went on and PAM beat a lot of really good teams. But for the misfortune of having to play Longview in their region, PAM might still be in the playoffs.

I don't think FBM was poorly coached.  The Buffs made some mistakes, but PN-G had something to do with that.  FBM had a good team.  Their QB and DL were legit.  JaCoby Banks was a fantastic player.  #10, #85, and many other kids.  The played well for the Buffs.  It was the best, most complete game PN-G has played since 1999.  PN-G is blessed to have a big and strong OL that has kids who can move their feet well and they put a helmet on you and move you off the line of scrimmage.  The Indians have size and strength, and they use it.  On defense, the Indians are playing their asses off.  Whatever we are paying the DC, it is not enough.  I'm the first one to donate $$$ to give that man a raise.  He puts our kids in position to make plays and they make them.  I could type the numbers of the whole defensive roster.  They rotate kids in and out, and all those kids play 100 mph.  Whatever they are doing, keep doing it.  PN-G also has solid special teams.  The kicking game, punt game, coverages, and returns have been outstanding.  The kicker hammered home some great FGs last night.  Tip of the cap to the Buffs.  Their QB was tough as nails.  He made good throws under pressure.  He's one tough kid...made good reads and throws.  That comes from good coaching.  The Buffs had speed all over the field, but PN-G stayed in their lanes and got enough kids around the football to make some stops.  The Buffs played well, but PN-G played better.  Great game by the PN-G QB...big throws, composure, nice game management, and he's a great punter, too.  All the PN-G kids believe in each other.  Great coaching and belief is a magical thing.  Good game FBM.  Great HS playoff game.  Go Indians.  Peace.

So what’s changed since the first meeting?  I’ve no idea of injuries or potential changes since then.  Only thing I see is PNG’s schedule.  Being a Pirate fan I haven’t kept up, but looking at that schedule I get the impression the Indian team taking the field Friday is a much improved team over the one in September.  And Friday take a page from the Pirate playbook - keep away.  Long, eat up the clock drives.  FBM can’t score if PNG has the ball.  I’ll find me a purple shirt to put on.  Don’t know the words to Cherokee but I’ve heard it.  Cheered for them in the Astrodome.  Will be cheering for them in my recliner Friday.

One last thing from this Pirate.
    Scalp’em Indians, Scalp’em!
Take that you kneelers at the alter of wokeism.

    Where your Vidor shirt !

Marshall shut down a Lake Creek team that was scoring 70-80 points on almost every opponent.

They also smoked PNG earlier in the season by 3 TDs. This won't be any different imo.

I think most people rightly understand that Fort Bend Marshall is the strong favorite, but know that Port Neches-Groves CAN win if the ball falls their way and they play mistake-free. Stranger things have happened. And, it’s harder to beat a team twice than it is to beat a team once, and PNG only has to win once. Also, PnG got to learn from the loss to FBM. What did FBM learn from PNg? That they were way better than us? Good. Let them come into the game comfortable with that knowledge.
