  1. I have more thoughts to add later, but for now I’ll say I don’t think Montgomery matches up with PNG in the trenches, but they might be better equipped to take advantage of our secondary than anyone we’ve played so far.
  2. No need to apologize to anyone, but you’re a class act regardless. And, I agree there’s too much “in your face” in sports. It defeats the purpose of it, throws the whole thing off. I like the handshake after because it’s a least a symbolic reminder that opponents aren’t enemies. For some related history, I’ve always been inspired by the tribute the British showed the Red Baron after they finally killed him. He had shot down many of their comrades and had of course been a feared enemy, but since he was killed behind British lines they interred him with full military honors. There’s a picture of the allied soldiers standing reverently at his funeral that gives me chills. That’s the kind of attitude I’d like to see coaches instill in players. On that note, I watched Ayden Sunday rush across the field to console Conner Bailey after last Friday’s game. He’s carried Nederland for three years, and suffered through a couple bad seasons, and two MCM losses — That his first thought was of his opponent and not celebrating with his classmates says a lot.
  3. Huntsville qb is a wild card. He’s getting his first start. Extremely athletic. He might match Hubert in a foot race. Nederland can stop a run game, but his ability to tuck it and run won’t be something Ned can discount. Still, have to give a very slight edge to Nederland in this.
  4. The students ran on the field. You saw it, everyone saw it - If I was the coach I would have told the png players to skip the handshakes. It’s safer. No need to pretend it’s anything but that.
  5. If we are the 1st and 4th seed, we’d meet in the 3rd round. If we’re the 2nd and 3rd we’d meet in the 3rd round. If one of us is 1st or 4th and the other is 2nd or 3rd we’d only meet in the 4th round.
  6. We’ll win game one. It’s likely against Mount Pleasant and they’re not good.
  7. The offensive personnel is fine. The offensive play calling isn’t. We’re literally “throwing” drives away. The defense has some serious personnel problems (without getting specific as to individuals, there is definitely a weak side to our defense and Nederland knew that and had their success there). SOC will beat us by three scores.
  8. Is this the first time PNG and Nederland have been in the top 10 at the same time?
  9. Both teams looked huge out there. Nederland is going to have a massive varsity o-line next season. My impression watching both JVs is that both varsities will be better overall next year. There are kids on the jv I think could be contributing already on varsity, and that’s not true every year.
  10. 1. Goose Creek Memorial 2. CE King 3. North Shore 4. Galveston Ball 5. PA Memorial 6. United 7. Huntsville 8. Port Neches Groves 9. Dayton 10. LCM 11. Vidor 12. Hardin-Jefferson 13. Jasper 14. 11. PNG JV 17 - Nederland JV 16
  12. DC still very much in play. Huntsville, PNG, Nederland, and Montgomery could still win it.
  13. I don’t think they can beat Huntsville even if they come out firing on all cylinders. (1) LC doesn’t defend the run well and Huntsville runs the ball well; (2) Huntsville can do everything Nederland did well on defense, but likely do it even better (good secondary coverage and run containment). I’m having trouble thinking of anything specific LC does that Huntsville hasn’t already shown it can counter, and there are specific things Huntsville does that LC has struggled with.
  14. Huntsville vs LC has seeding and playoff implications. Every game the rest of the season is a play-in game for LC, even though they don’t control their destiny. And, Huntsville hasn’t technically clinched the playoffs (If they lose to Lc and Nederland they’re out). MCM has seeding implications. Both teams have clinched playoff spots.
  15. Please keep assuming we haven’t improved since then, or that Sunday is as good (or as fast) as Marcos.
  16. I’ve watched every game. Tezino, Ned, Sunday, and Thomas. With a BIG emphasis on Thomas.
  17. Right - He was dangerous in busted plays last night. Qb runs out of the pocket have been a problem for us all season.
  18. Huntsville has a good o line and two very good RBs and we mostly shut down their run game. We’ve played good RBs against Klein Oak, La Porte, MLC (admittedly, not our finest moment), and Huntsville. We can make things very difficult for Thomas. But, if we don’t continue to improve, especially in containment, he can take advantage. He’s way faster than anyone we have on defense, he won’t usually go down with a single tackler, and he definitely won’t go down with hand tackles. We’re going to have be extremely disciplined and tough.
  19. He had some sort of health issue. I saw him walking with pain on the way up to the press box before the first game of the season.
  20. Man, I was so happy all night. Everyone else missed a great show.
  21. That sounds ambitious. I think it’s a one-score game.
  22. Out of likes, but after sitting near Lc fans yelling swear words down at the refs tonight I’ve never been so happy to see a team miss the playoffs.
  23. This was one of those “transformation right before your eyes” kinds of games. Nederland’s defense played like a top-tier team. Byars had nowhere to run, and I’m not sure Marcos has ever been hit that much.
