The 132 combined points is what’s Impressive to me. It’s hard for offenses to be that efficient even in practice. It looked like 5A-D1 teams against 5A-D2 teams.

It is closer to that - the size differences in the schools is significant. It won’t be surprising if both are D1 next year. But I didn’t watch BH against Nederland. I can say Crosby v PNG it seemed like the Crosby offense was moving in fast forward and png was on a time delay. I don’t think it’s just that Crosby was faster, it’s the play design had PNG hesitating, like they didn’t know who to go after. It’s of course stating the obvious to say the better team won after a beat down like that, but it’s clear Crosby has taken serious steps forward in the past few years. I’m sure some of that is based on growth, but it’s also coaching and maybe even culture. Crosby wasn’t this dominant for most of the last 20 years, even when they were good, so something is different in a good way over there.

  2. I think BH should win this, on paper -- Nederland's offense is still a weak point, and all things considered BH can move the ball against anyone. But BH is a wild card mentally - They gave up a big lead to Crosby and collapsed against PNG and it was pretty clear it was a discipline break down against PNG. So if Nederland is just patient and keeps churning like they did against PNG, BH will give them chances to win.

What he's saying isn't true though. PNG might've played backups during the last drive or so of a couple of those games but when Crosby pulled the starters against Dayton and KP the combined score was 95-7. I believe it was something like 49-41 combined for PNG in those same games? I would also point to PNG giving up 38 to a Nederland offense that was shut out by TC, Crosby was up 50-13 after three quarters though.

PNG only gave up 24 to the Nederland offense. 14 of Nederland’s points came from a scoop and score off a fumble and a pick 6.

  4. Indians stormed back after going down 17-0. KP has only scored one offensive touchdown. They got a pick 6 early, and the field goal. It’s been all PNG since then. The Texan Live cameraman is killing me, he’s had the camera pointed away from the play a couple times, and other times is holding it too low. He either ate a pound of Ritalin before the game, or needs to do so now.

Perennial contender?  How many state titles has he won?  How many has he been in?
Going on the philosophy of “they could do a lot worse” usually doesn’t bring Championships.

Again, just curious how long the Indian faithful will put up with it!

How long will Nederland put up with Barrow producing the same mediocrity? Your question seems to suggest that Nederland is somehow just light years ahead of PNG. I don’t think that’s what you mean, but the question about Nederland coaching applies. My approach isn’t so much “PNG could do worse” (but, PNG COULD do worse). It’s that there is a LOT that Faircloth does right. Not perfect, and sometimes he doesn’t have the athletes we might wish for. But he’s a better coach than Burnett. That’s an easy discussion for me. However, could we find a better coach? Probably. But things could also be much worse. So I think PNG would do well to not off-handedly dismiss a guy who has fielded such a consistently good team. Are we “perennial” state contenders? No. But if that’s the standard very few coaches in Mid-County should be employed.
