  1. I agree. Coach Matthews has said in interviews that Vidor runs its system because they don’t have the personnel to run other systems. That’s foolishness. The spread, for example, was created for teams that aren’t as fast or big as their opponents. Vidor is not significantly different in terms of speed or body types or lack of actual athletes than PNG and Nederland. If PNG and Nederland can run modern offenses, so can Vidor. The worst part is Vidor isn’t even executing their Slot-T offense as well as they could. Liberty Hill runs a similar offense and is nearly unstoppable. They don’t appear to be bigger or faster than their opponents. They just run their system so well it’s hard for even more athletic teams to keep up (Crosby took all it had and then some to beat LH in 2020, and never actually stopped their offense). But are Vidor’s players less athletic, less intelligent, less willing to play than comparable school, less tough? No. Vidor’s problems are 100%, and have always been, a problem of teaching. Get coaches that believe in the players and don’t blame the players for the coach not knowing how to teach more balanced systems, and Vidor starts winning a lot more games a lot more consistently.
  2. Png shouldn’t be #10. If we beat FBM we should be ranked, but not until then.
  3. West orange is tackling poorly. Png defense looks like a new creature, hasn’t been this disciplined since 2009. West orange doesn’t look like itself. But that png d line is playing like old west orange. Wild and tough.
  4. The person I quoted and responded to said the following : “Basically have 3 possible chances for wins this season. Willow Ridge, GP, SF” So if Nederland is predicted (by that person) as only being able to beat Willow Ridge, GP, and SF, the implication is that they will lose to PNG. Also, if you’re talking about Nederland, you’re talking about PNG. It’s in the Bible, probably.
  5. Why is everyone writing Nederland off against PNG? Keep the jinx magic away from us. We have our own problems to deal with.
  6. I agree JV looks strong. I saw one of those games myself and they dominated Royse City easily. They have a D1 receiver as well. They should improve. I don’t expect their ceiling is particularly high (though I hope it is, as I have a nephew playing varsity this year). My point is it’s a mistake to think the Westerberg name is magic pill that creates state championships. The great run at Allen was behind arguably the best high school quarterback in Texas history, for starters.
  7. Frankly, Whitehouse was terrible last year. Prospects this year aren’t great. I’m wondering whether the Westerberg name should carry as much weight as it does. BH improved under Westerberg Sr, but that improvement also came during an era of disproportionate growth in BH’s favor, and they only did marginally better than they had done prior to his arrival. Kyler Murray and Allen HS having 7,000 kids is where the Westerberg legacy has to be traced.
  8. I’d go for Purple Pandas
  9. PNG should change their mascot to the “Port Neches Groves Washington Redskins.”
  10. There’s been a few years between 1930 and 2022.
  11. Jasper was the same size classification as PNG for years
  12. Each carrying an iPad into the game
  13. I don’t think we can ignore the conditioning and development program a coach puts in place. That is, would Carthage have the same level of prospects without the coach helping get them there?
  14. Is Crosby going to protest its alignment to try to drop down? Wasn’t it just a few students over the 5aD1 mark?
  15. You’re not supposed to tell us WHERE the drop is happening. It’s like you haven’t even seen a James Bond movie.
  16. Any whispers as to what had them wanting Faircloth’s head?
  17. I’m curious if any schools (not asking for names) have ever pushed back on such a request from you, and what the basis would have been, if such were the case.
  18. I like the way the 49ers do it. I don’t think we should lose the strength in the passing game, but being a team that knows it can run no matter how the passing is going will be refreshing. I’m hoping to see new toughness in the defense.
  19. If any PNG fans ever pull that “For Sale” bull crap on a coach again I’m cheering for Nederland. I’m sure this new coach will be great. Maybe better in some ways. And the coaching tree and relationships he comes from aren’t nothing. And with the whole “Todd Dodge consultant to help build a culture” thing the board is doing, maybe he’ll be successful putting a program in place similar to what’s at Katy and Westlake and Southlake. Good luck to him.
  20. I may be asking for info you don’t have, but any idea what they like him for? As in, what’s the reason to be excited about this guy? He has a shorter resume than Faircloth did coming in. Which isn’t to say I am unhappy with this pick. But if we’re going to run Faircloth out of town I’d hope it was for an obviously better choice, at least. If the board won’t keep him, we can at least give him the respect of getting someone better than him.
  21. Good to know - my impression has been they are always kind of on the bubble of being good, but have to deal with FBM so they look a little less good than they might be.
  22. Every time - what a waste - and so hard to get momentum for the rest of the season for the loser.
  23. What a year to have to get a new coach for no reason. Any thoughts on how the teams in this district are likely to shake out by season end? My way-too-early guess: 1st place: 1. Fort Bend Marshall - I know they lost to Barbers Hill last year (not to knock BH, but it was at least the second biggest upset in the state that day, if not the biggest), but unless something has changed dramatically at FBM, they will still have a huge O-line and their water boys will be faster than every player from any other team in the district. Good luck, to all of us. I hope we can figure out a way to stop them. Contenders for last three playoff spots In no particular order, but PNG is on top in the name of hopes and dreams and maybe Tom Brady will use retirement to come be our new coach (Though I will note he doesn’t have a master’s degree and has never won a state championship in Texas, and did lose the SuperBowl two times to the Giants and got knocked out the playoffs twice by Mark Sanchez. Also, he lost yet another Super Bowl to the Eagles [though, in fairness to Tom Brady, Nick Foles had Jesus on his side] - So let’s maybe look a little deeper on the applicant list). PNG Texas City Fort Bend Willowridge Nederland (included for Trying-To-Look-Unbiased reasons only) Non-playoffs Dayton, Santa Fe, Galena Park, Nederland (sorry, Nederland, but your coach doesn’t have a master’s degree) In all seriousness - The tiers seem to be: FBM - PNG/TC/FBW/Ned - Dayton/SF/GP
