  1. Mind blown. Good job, Nederland! I’m stunned.
  2. The UIL absolutely should impose sanctions on the program. If it had been the first time, the program could argue they were ignorant of the kid's behavior and tendancies. But he did it last year and they knew about it. Having him still on the field is a joke.
  3. Roschon was clearly the most visible and profound difference when he was on the field for us (because even just one athlete like him can make all the difference), but it was also three years of the defense being pretty good. In 2018 the defense was probably the closest to having a good defense we’ve had in more than a decade.
  4. You just wish you had someone to hate you the way PNG and Nederland hate each other. It's a hateful hate story.
  5. On that note, I want Nederland to sport the all gold look more often. There is something old school about it that looks awesome against the PNG purple. And the gray pants need to be burned.
  6. With this team that would be just as good. We would actually convert a few of those 4th downs. And we'd probably get at least one onside kick.
  7. Right - overall, PNG has been a strong team. I think part of the issue people are seeing this year is that this team has so many good pieces that being bad is a surprise. The 2012 team that didn't make the playoffs was bad from top to bottom (only beat Silsbee and Lumberton), with the exception of Jeremiah Rose (who was one of the all-time great receivers of PNG history) and several of the underclassmen.
  8. I just want three punts in one game from the other team. Let's start there.
  9. I'm a major Faircloth fan, even when we lose to Nederland six years in a row. I think he is a very good coach, especially and obviously on the offensive side. I think he is a great offensive mind. I'll be sad when he eventually moves on from PNG. All that being said, the defense has been poor beginning in 2010 (and, honestly, as much as that 2010 defense struggled, it seems downright stellar compared to this year). We've had some good defensive moments, but overall we've been below what we could be.
  10. So PNG will still make the playoffs if Texas City loses to BH and PNG beats Santa Fe. For what it’s worth, a chance to play one more game is worth cheering for. I can’t imagine we’d be able to hang with whoever we meet in the first round. And at this point I’m not even confident we beat Santa Fe.
  11. If they aren’t, there are a bunch of people who don’t know it.
  12. I want “The PNG Golf Carts.” Because golf cart ownership and use at all hours by people of all ages is clearly the true culture of Port Neches and Groves’ communities. I’m not even joking. I would vote eagerly for that name.
  13. Overall, there are way fewer problems with the offense. Looking at the team as a whole over multiple years, and not just one game.
  14. Good point - I totally forgot that. Glad they are living up to that expectation.
  15. Right - - in all fairness to the new DC, I'm rooting for him, and hope he is able to pull it together next year. No one starts out as great as they will be. So hopefully they'll figure things out. It does seem all the size goes to the offensive line though. And someone needs to teach PNG how to open-field tackle. I even went back watched the video from PNG vs. Stephenville in the 1999 state championship and the open-field tackling with that (great) defense was abysmal (setting aside that Stephenville's QB was an athletic freak) in that game. A lot of feet planted and hand grabbing. We tackled the same against Crosby. I acknowledge that defense is harder than offense, and everyone from the pros down to peewee is struggling with containing modern offenses. But at a minimum I'd like to see clean, one-on-one open field tackles when a player has that opportunity.
  16. Since I'm thinking about it again, I think last week's game requires some perspective. In 2013, PNG had an "ok" team that I think finished 2nd in a particularly weak district. That year, Crosby went to the semifinals. PNG played Crosby in the first round of the playoffs and, though we were a mostly normal team and Crosby had its best team ever, PNG still managed to keep the score at 28-49. This year PNG was "supposed" to have one of the best teams in the state, and Crosby is technically still rebuilding from the financial implosion of two years ago and is only in its second year with the coach, and PNG barely managed 14 points and got embarrassed on defense, with what is supposedly the best offense in the district, with what is actually the best QB in the area. The point in making the comparison: even Crosby's best team ever didn't blow us out the way we got blown out last week (Leaving aside the unanswered question as to where this year's Crosby team will rank -- If Crosby goes on to win state, I'll feel a lot better about this). Something is not being done right. I'll avoid saying what should be done, because I don't know exactly what must be done to make a defense good. But will say that whatever should be done isn't being done, whatever that is.
  17. Crosby and PAM would be a good game, and Crosby is a step above most of the competition PAM has faced. I'd have trouble predicting the winner.
  18. So PNG is playing cupcakes for the next two weeks. I don't have the math in front of me, but theoretically if PNG runs up the score two weeks in a row, they might be able to affect their seeding? I'd like to see what numbers they would need.
