Receivers don’t know how to get themselves open. If you don’t have speed you have to be physical.
Receivers aren’t getting open, and when they do get open they aren’t reliably catching the ball — not a lot of clutch plays. And the qb is still not on target.

Some people call it a bye week, but I call it one extra week to talk PNG - Nederland. Let’s get this started.

5-6. Although with Nederland struggling we might could go 6-5. I think if Reed comes back healthy and they put him on defense, that will help. We had 250 yards of offense tonight. Unless we get Landon involved we are going to struggle. We had a few injuries on defense that once they are back will help. If you sit in man coverage the only one who will and can break it is Landon. We need to work on quick passes so the QB has confidence IMO. And defensively we could use some coaching up. We have some good athletes on each side of the ball. I’m not upset over tonight’s beat down. I’m not a rah rah. This should show what we got exposed to and help the D coordinator make some changes. Offensively we need to be quick on anything we do. Mix in the run and eat clock. But hey I’m not a coach. Just a moron who read Coach Klein’s coaching for dummies!
The offense still looks unimaginative. None of the receivers have game-breaking speed, so I’d expect a more creative play mix. It’s pretty stale.

So we’ll lose 3 district games, make the playoffs and lose in the first, or you think we’ll lose 4 district games?

These guys do not have a Kendall Briles for sure!!!! Our defense is out of position which is nothing unusual. But offensively we are struggling to be nice about it. It doesn’t change my mind on competing for the #4 seed. We should get better.
Definitely not as good as Kendall Briles. But this game has certainly exposed our weaknesses. Good prep for district

Tomball is clearly better than us. This reminds me of the Stephenville (1999) game - They are better conditioned and playing smarter, faster. We can’t keep up. And their linemen are huge.
-
Well, PNG’s in serious trouble if the offense can’t get moving. The defense seems to playing “ok,” but they aren’t getting any help on offense.

Tomball is a brutal drive on a Friday afternoon. It’s like Conroe, seems like you never get there.
Yeah it’s definitely the wrong side of Houston for a setx road trip

Hardly any PNG fans in the stands. We’re going to lose our reputation.

Tomball's Oline is big and plays nasty. The QB is extremely athletic. They will go 4 wide just to run everyone off and then the qb will run. Defense isn't special. Special teams will onside at least 2 times and they will run a fake punt a couple of times. If PNG isn't careful on special teams, Tomball will steal 2-4 extra possessions. They have won multiple games over the past 2 seasons because of this. I personally don't have a dog in this fight. But Id be willing to bet Tomball will win this game by more than the talent disparity between the 2 teams.
The difference in the game last year was Tomball got an extra possession on a fumbled kick off. PNG looked like they had the game under control early, but Tomball was sneaky.

I just cant understand how we get these head coaches that really dont want to be here. The current head coach applied for several jobs after one year on the job. He thought he could get a job after a playoff blowout. Not only did he try to leave but it was in our district, La porte!! Really!!
This guy has no enthusiasm about being the head coach at BU, he has had 3 coaches he brought in leave. The OC left in December bc of the vision of the HC. He has no idea of how to run a program, he made no decisions in Duncanville; a third OL coach with get back duties on game day!! he was on a 35 game losing streak for reason and it wasnt the players!! We as a community has to have more input in the hiring process or we will continue to fail the kids!!!
The thing I don’t understand (And I never would have expected this- I thought the opposite would be true) is how Central was better than BU now. I honestly think any Central team from 2009 to 2016 would beat BU today and last year. I thought BU would be the best of Ozen and Central and be a force in the state. Instead they are at best just another Ozen.

This one is tough to call. I’m thinking Port Arthur. On the one hand, Crosby has played much tougher competition and has a lot of recent big-game experience. On the other hand, PAM has key positions staffed with elite next-level talent and I’m pretty sure they have more returning starters. In a close game, I’ll go with the team that is more stabilized in terms of identity and time together, and that’s PAM. I’m thinking a one-score game.

Probably so, but I think y’all are getting some help from the offenses you’re playing too. For now it’s more impressive that PNG seems like they may be able to run the ball from the rb position this year.
The defense is still more exciting than the RB - I don’t mean our defense will be world beaters this year after just two games. I mean the fact that they can, at a minimum, wrap up and make a basic tackle in the open field is the impressive part. The way we played last year, ANY offense could run all over us. The RB part is exciting too, but if we can just make some tackles we’ve got a chance. And you’re right that BU gave us some favors last night. They made enough mistakes last night I’d be really worried as a BU fan. But there have been years, including last year, where even those mistakes would still have us getting run all over the field unable to get anything but fingers on people.

PNG Center has got to work out the problems with the snaps. There were actually 16 errant snaps tonight, either off to the side or right at the ground. The quarterback did an amazing job of just trying to control the snaps. You can't tell me in the school the size of PNG that we can't find someone who can snap the ball consistently to the quarterback. Just paint a target on the wall, at the right distance, and have the center snap the ball again and again and again so he's hitting that target every time. Every time you miss the target you run a lap, that way when you get tired you can still snap the ball because you're used to it. I have no problem with the center's blocking, but you have to get the ball to the QB first & primarily. These errant snaps are going to hurt us bad as the season progresses.

About time ! We look like we have a real defense finally

So far it’s looking like the best defense png has shown in a very long time. Hopefully it keeps up

so what was the "stupid" that happened?
I said “unless” - nothing happened. There were a lot of dumb mistakes by both teams, so I was facetiously referencing that. But both played well at times. BU seemed more discombobulated most of the time, than PNG. A lot to work on for both. PNG had 6 or 7 botched snaps, give or take a couple. Bu never got really aggressive on offense, and couldn’t hold onto the ball. PNG looked good on defense, and the offense started to gel as the gam wore on.

PNG wins 21-17
-
5 seconds left, png has the ball. This is going to be ballgame PNG unless something really stupid happens
-
Bu fumbles. pnG ball, 2:57 left
-
PNG went for it on 4th and 1, but had probably the 7th botched snap tonight. BU ball
-
TD BU on blown coverage. PNG 21-17

I think Tomball was good experience for PNG - we were certainly down, but we showed some good things. If we can smooth out the wrinkles we can be 10% better. I don’t think our ceiling is much higher, but that will win us some games.
