Huge defensive stop by PNG
-
This defense isn’t even something to be mad about. It’s just sad.

Figure I'll drop a prediction. I HATE to say this, but in the spirit of objectivity, it doesn't look good for PNG. I honestly know nothing about Crosby, other than watching them against Barbers Hill, and that game is a bad sample since BH played like eagles with clipped wings or some other bad trouble that eagles can get themselves into. I don't know a lot about eagles, so I'm already regretting that joke. In any case, you don't need to know anything at all about Crosby to predict this game. PNG has been the most consistent team in the area in one aspect: An absolutely mortifying inability to make plays at the line or make open field tackles. This weakness has been particularly clear against running QBs. Every team we've played, no matter how good or bad, has been able to take advantage of it. So if Crosby is AT ALL competent at running faster than a dead snail on the bottom of a broken wheelchair, PNG is going to struggle all night. I HATE predicting a PNG loss against the Mecca. I'm hoping Faircloth got the ipad I placed in the mail this week because we are going to need all the help we can get. That being said, I in no way think Crosby is unbeatable. Crosby is solid. I think (again, based solely on what I observed against BH) they are a third-round team with a high seed, 2nd round with a low seed. PNG can win this game. I don't look at PNG as a bad team at all. They have played well in every game, and the only truly bad performance, even with the bad defense, was the implosion against BH. PNG has shown flashes of real potential and talent all season, and there is nothing to say it won't come together tonight. Remember the 2010 season, when Central marched into the Reservation for the last game of the season, one game away from an undefeated district championship -- In that season PNG had an awful defense and an incredible offense (that was a year, I should add, PNG dominated Crosby in the pre-season). PNG crushed Central and went to the third round, only to lose by 10 points against Manvel. So we could surprise people tonight, is my only point. We still have the best QB in the area, and a full stable of dangerous runningbacks and receivers. GO Indians.

It was impressive, last year.
-
Last year, held Tomball to 9, Crosby to 13 (so, close to ten), Santa Fe to 7.

I think Silsbee would have beaten Jasper if that game hadn't been called for weather. Momentum was shifting to Silsbee.

Even Nick Saban has finally admitted that offense is the key now. Even the good teams give up lots and lots of points. State championship games are more and more turning into track meets, where the two best teams in the division can't stop each other. As applied to this game, Silsbee cannot realistically expect to stop Carthage -- They are just going have to play lights out offense, get some turnovers, and hope to MAYBE make Carthage punt 2 to 3 times the entire game (thinking generously. I expect Silsbee gets 1 to 2 turnovers on downs). That being said, Silsbee has pulled off playoff miracles against a favored juggernaut two seasons in a row. It's hard to bet against Silsbee in the playoffs lately. But I'd still bet on Carthage. Hope Silsbee proves me wrong.

And the BH defensive line doesn't get enough credit. They will get penetration against Nederland.
-
To that point, turnovers and early momentum will play a huge part for BH. Against PNG, BH didn't have to open up its playbook very much since it started the game up by 21 points. So BH could play simple, ball-control offense and then PNG couldn't get a stop, and BH didn't need to try anything fancy that might have allowed for mistakes. Under different circumstances, BH may have needed to be more risky, which (theoretically) would have opened up the door for mistakes (which BH has been prone to make) and turnovers. If Nederland can hang with BH long enough to force BH to take some risks, that uncertainty could work in its favor (as it did for Crosby). However, I don't think Nederland will be able to stop the BH run game. The BH offensive line is enormous and the QB is a tough runner, almost like a runningback. BH is going to win, I'm just rooting for Nederland to make it scary for them.

BH size will be a factor.

A test week for both teams. Crosby is favored. PNG's last chance to prove itself before the playoffs, and more than likely the last chance to control its playoff seeding. Bring on the iPad Bowl.

I think it starts with who beat who. And if that doesn’t resolve it, overall record, then points scored. I may be full of it though, I’m just trying to remember what people have said in the past.

Good to know.

PNG intercepts KW to run it back to the 20. Bost kneels. Ballgame.

62-35. PNG botched the snap on the extra point. About 2 minutes left in game.

56-35 PNG. Can’t tell if PNG put in subs on defense or if we genuinely can’t stop Kingwood Park right now.

56-28 PNG. I had the score wrong on my last update. It was 49-28. PNG just scored on about a 20-yard pass.
