All 4 of PNG’s games against their top 4 competitors were one score games.  This District has been probably the most exciting district race I can remember.

I’m not going to be specific about any player or position group so as to not run afoul of rules, but there is definitely a weak portion to our defense and other teams know it

Ironically, we were more unpredictable when we ran it up the middle nearly every play last season. And our pass plays were a natural compliment to our run game.

The defense doesn’t even have to make a read. We broadcast every pass and they’re all basically post routes

Montgomery is just a big play team.  They will have more big plays than sustained drives.  Going to have to play all 48 minutes.

If PNG wins and Nederland loses this week, the final game between Nederland and Montgomery will be HUGE!  Every teams seeding will change depending on that one result.  That would be a fitting end to the regular season for this District.  Hope it happens.
If PNG and Nederland both win, then, Yawn, it’s all over and everybody knows where they are.

SOC isn't what they were in 21 or 22 IMO, but this years team is better than last years team

Offense needs to stay on the field and limit Montgomery chances. Huntsville had a goo scheme against them. Contain the QB from running. Make him beat you through the air.

Nederland matched up fine in the trenches, and they attacked our blocking lanes better than anyone all season. There were portions of the game where their D line made our o-line look silly, and I wish we had their Lb coach. I’m saying I don’t know that Montgomery can do what Nederland did.

No need to apologize to anyone, but you’re a class act regardless. And, I agree there’s too much “in your face” in sports. It defeats the purpose of it, throws the whole thing off. I like the handshake after because it’s a least a symbolic reminder that opponents aren’t enemies. For some related history, I’ve always been inspired by the tribute the British showed the Red Baron after they finally killed him. He had shot down many of their comrades and had of course been a feared enemy, but since he was killed behind British lines they interred him with full military honors. There’s a picture of the allied soldiers standing reverently at his funeral that gives me chills. That’s the kind of attitude I’d like to see coaches instill in players. On that note, I watched Ayden Sunday rush across the field to console Conner Bailey after last Friday’s game. He’s carried Nederland for three years, and suffered through a couple bad seasons, and two MCM losses — That his first thought was of his opponent and not celebrating with his classmates says a lot.

What’s crazy about this District is that, while Nederland has the inside track for the 1 seed, they could also still end up with the 4 seed.  And there are 4 teams that could still get the 2 seed.  Exciting final 2 weeks.

Yes, the backup Huntsville QB is athletic and he will be a good player in the coming years.  But he is a Freshman.  So, it’s the decision making that is the wildcard.  Huntsville coaches will have to figure out how to set him up for success.

I may have made a rush to judgement last night and feel the need to apologize to the players and fans of PNG. At the time, I didn’t realize that the field was being rushed by fans when the PNG players were walking off the field. I said it was unsportsmanlike and I was wrong. I believe strongly in sportsmanship and, let’s face it, in every sport from the pros down, everything has become “in your face” after every play. To me, personal celebration after making routine plays is a slap in the face to your teammates who, without them on the field, could you have still made the play? My love for the game keeps me viewing, so I have to endure it. Well, enough for my rant.
To all of the PNG faithful, I apologize for my rush to judgement.

LOL, I'm just seeing this. Doing great! Was watching my kids play sports Saturday, hosting a Halloween party and doing a a little Trick-or-treating Sunday. We are surviving in the land of purple.

That's the type of coach most programs around this area wish they had. Man knows who he is what he does and how to get kids to buy in.

Two SETX rivalry games tonight.  One arguably the biggest rivalry in the state.  One game thread is replete with whining from both sides about officiating (and who benefitted more from bad calls). The other about which team made more plays, and the fans of the team who came up short giving kudos to the team who got the W. It’s almost like one game involved two teams who “have been there before.”

No doubt great rivalries are fueled by two schools whose teams consistently leave it all on the field.  But honestly it’s the fans who are the constant, year after year.  And IMO, with all due respect to Permian- Lee (which is probably the second best I’ve personally witnessed), NO ONE does it better than you mid county folk.  Congrats to the Bulldogs - great win in a game that seems to spit out classic after classic.

Both teams looked huge out there. Nederland is going to have a massive varsity o-line next season. My impression watching both JVs is that both varsities will be better overall next year. There are kids on the jv I think could be contributing already on varsity, and that’s not true every year.
