It's my understanding he is retiring but that could have changed.

Rez reacted to KF89 in Nederland is open, Barrow Resigns
Has NISD or Barrow released anything official yet on retirement, resigned or re-assigned? Until then the 7 year time clock can not be prepared to be activated for the new coach

Rez reacted to ozens fastest@1906 in How Do You Define an Elite Coach?
After the first 2 and 1/2 pages I thought this would end up a waste of a thread and also my time reading. However I'm glad I read through the entire thread and all post before clicking off. As a coach for the past 20 years both in SETX and now in the Greater Houston Area and being very familiar with the WOS Tradition/ Culture and also the last good playoff runs in Ozen's short history, I feel as though I have earned the right to reply to some of the comments in regards to Elite Coaching and also Talent / Culture and how the state of football in SETX has changed in the past few years.Â
1) IZZY you know I love ya like a son but the (50) 5-2 defense isn't trash, IT worked for years for the Mustangs because CT "Mastered" it along with his staff who many forget never really changed for years. So when you have coaches who have mastered a specific scheme and when I use the term mastered I mean they know how to make all of the adjustments in the scheme for what ever offenses will try to show em. What worked for the past coaching staff will not work for the present staff because its not them, simple as that!! You can't replace almost 30 years of CULTURE and as a community expect the same results.Â
2) Talent plays just as much a part as Coaching "ELITE" or NOT.. An ELITE Coach I wont say any names but I will say this, he hired ME and gave me my first HS Coaching Job.. "You Cant Win The Kentucky Derby With A Mule" to break it down for you, You Cant Win A UIL STATE Championship Without Talent.Â
3) Talent can make an average Coach look alot better but who cares, that average coach still has to put that TALENT into position to win, and also manage all of the talent on and off the field, and most importantly LEAD all that TALENT.Â
4) What it all comes down to is allowing Coaches to set the culture for their programs, communities providing support financially and proudly supporting that team all year long. Championships aren't won in the FALL, they are won in the offseason and summer conditioning. Â

I understand politics and all that entails and in certain instances in high school athletics it rears its ugly head.
I've helped coaches find officials for games including state title games and I can assure you politics are the last thing on those guys minds.Â
You feel quite strongly that politics are involved here and I disagree and that disagreement is based on personal experience. You aren't changing my mind and I'm not changing yours...much like a political debate on the internetÂ

I have a friend at TASO who us a college ref. He verified to me that each coach is given a bio of each ref to review for the game. SOC either knew the ref was there are did not read them.Â

Maybe the crews should be from the San Antonio area. They would be neutral since they very rarely have any teams play for a state title anymore. LOL

Rez reacted to A BUC 77 in Since 1975, PNG Has Made 5 Trips to the State Championship, Won 2 -- Nederland Has 0 Trips and Consequently 0 State Titles!
I understand.  Wasnât familiar where everyone lives I guess.  Itâs hard to put a finger on it.  But I donât think itâs the culture.  The stars have to align to do what you guys have done the last couple of years.  First was the coaching change.  Then a right group of kids buying in to what this staff was selling.  Matching up  to their opponents.  Nederland just needs a similar string of events.  The culture is there we just needs to wake it up.

Rez got a reaction from Rob Corpus in Dallas ISD considering filing a grievance over PNG win
This wonât go anywhere. Even if the complaint wasnât ludicrous, what is the result they think will happen? Overturn every other moment in the game and give the championship to SOC?Â
Â
I would very much like to see every email and other written communication exchanged between the teams, and between the teams and the ref crew, as well as all of the information that was made available to both sides. SOC is claiming a âlack of transparency,â but I think this is going to more a case of, âyou tricked me by me not reading what I was supposed to read.âÂ
Â
I AM curious how a guy with âPort Nechesâ in his bio ended up on the crew. It seems like something he should have recused himself from. On the other hand, if both sides agree, what harm has been done?Â
Â
None of this changes the fact that everyone has to deal with bad, even heart-breaking calls. All of us remember games, even in the playoffs, where a ref didnât call a penalty - or did call a penalty - that we disagreed with. There were several such instances against PNG in this playoffs. If PNG had lost, SOC wouldnât be complaining about the non-call on PI in the end zone (by the same guy who did the PI that later got called) that stopped a PNG touchdown. They are teaching their kids and community a horrible lesson.Â

Rez got a reaction from Rob Corpus in PNG Coaching Change?
I think he meant âlikeâ the Nederland rb. But, while weâre talking about it, if Thomas just happened to visit PNG, Iâm sure weâd be happy to find our way to a uniform fitting room , and if a ball just happens to fall into his hands and he starts scoring touchdowns I wouldnât complain.Â

Rez reacted to PN-G bamatex in Duncanville Gloves??
On principle, I donât think itâs right. It doesnât just cover up holding. It can also disguise pass interference, horse collars and possibly face mask penalties or others Iâm not thinking of. There are potential safety issues. At a minimum, doing so evinces a clear intent to obfuscate illegal activity. I think it should be illegal. In fact, I would support a rule requiring the home team to wear black gloves, if any, and the visiting team to wear white gloves, if any. Problem solved.
Having said that, if there isnât going to be a rule against the practice, fairâs fair.

Rez reacted to pine curtain in Dave Campbell's Ranking of State Championship games
It does not matter what makes sense or what the people want.
It is all about the money.........
The Dallas area does not travel well and the Houston area does.
They can make more MONEY having it in Dallas.........
Until the Houston area people stop going to Dallas to watch games it will stay there.Â

Last year was a Dallas crew. Do we need to go pull backgrounds on them? Check Facebook friends? Relatives? Any ties to the SOC community?Â
I don't like the optics of it due to all the negative conversation that it has triggered but the ref had absolutely ZERO impact on the outcome of the game. People need to move on.Â
