Galena Park North Shore (43) vs Dickinson (34) - FINAL
MackLewis replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football
North Shore will not win state with the QB they had playing last night. Amador’s throwing shoulder was hurt, so effectively, the 3rd string kid played. He wasn’t awful, but they won’t beat Westlake with him playing. And Dickinson had quiet a bit of success throwing the ball, which surprised me. -

Austin Johnson (19) vs Port Neches-Groves (24) - FINAL

Don’t understand why offensive coaches do goofy stuff. PNG has the ball, trying to run out the clock, and they basically have a Wildcat formation. And the OC does her motion in the backfield, causing a bad snap and fumble. Why do the motion inside your own 15? Why get cute? That cost them that last TD. -

PNG let these kids hang around way too long. Not a good 2nd half offensively for PNG. Defense has played great, but the offense crapped the bed entire 2nd half. Got away from the run, when they should have had patience and kept running straight at them. LBJ isn’t very good. The Alexander kid was about all they had. Very good player. -

PNG blowing LBJ off the ball. Their lack of competition is showing right now. -
The few times I’ve seen LBJ, they look like WO-S teams from years past to me. Fast and physical. PNG is no stranger to WOS and their style of play. If PNG can tackle well in space and limit the big play they will be in it to the end. They need to come out and be the more physical of the 2, hit them in the mouth, and see how LBJ handles playing from behind and manages some adversity.

I agree. But they were never really competitive in those other games either. Not only are they not playoff caliber, they are a long ways from being there.

Bellville (27) vs West Orange-Stark (20) - FINAL
MackLewis replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football
It’s the toughness and discipline above all else IMO that always made WOS what they were. They rarely beat themselves, never played selfishly, committed ignorant penalties, and were as unorganized in week 11 as they were week 1. That comes from leadership, and the kids believing and all buying into the same cause. After 40 years, much of that is gone. You don’t witness those kids acting like that on the field and on the sideline, if they believed and were all-in for this staff. They know they were under prepared and much of the time out schemed. They still have the horses, but the best horses still have to have training, and someone giving them direction. -

I always enjoyed hearing some CT one liners. The “suspects vs prospects” was always a good one. I’m sure he will agree that the entire coaching staff would be considered suspects after year 1. -
Do Crosby fans ever give another team credit? When Crosby is good, they can be quite arrogant. Acting as if they have always been dominant, and like there is this pipeline of talent that will never end. Nothing against Crosby. They had a great 2 or 3 year run, and I believe Prieto is a good coach. Then they fall from near the top of the mountain top, struggle for a year, and run down the #1 team in the state in their class. Longview handles Crosby with ease, and we hear how they are over rated, no good, and couldn’t beat FB Marshall. Everyone once in a while give the other team credit. Similar to Carthage last year.

If Beaumont had 1 school, it would fail from within. No reason for outsiders to wish for its failure, or complain about anything. Too many old school ppl in Beaumont, and influential ppl in Beaumont they wouldn’t be able to let go of the last rivalries, racial things, etc. There would be an abundance of talent that would rival any district. But there would have to be a dang near total transformation of attitude and culture for any major progress to happen. Not many coaches could handle all the BS from within the district, and from the community IMO.

I’m under the impression that once it leaves the kickers foot, it’s a change of possession. Kicking team can’t recover, and retain possession, or advance the ball. Once it crosses the LOS, and if the defensive team touches, and muffs the ball, it can be recovered by the kicking team, but not advanced. If the defensive team recovers the ball, advances the ball, then fumbles, then the kicking team could recover and advance the ball.

Timpson should be the team to beat in 2AD1. Newton and Waskom are 3AD2. I thought Waskom took a step back after losing Keeling to Tatum, but maybe they have surpassed expectations. Many believe it’ll be Newton and Dangerfield for the region.

West Orange-Stark (14) @ Jasper (34) - FINAL
MackLewis replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football
Don’t know nothing about the kid that was kicked off, other than I’ve heard from several in the community that he was a turd. Two sides to every story. As far as the Carl Broussard story. CT was a character witness. He can only testify as to what he knew the man to be. I’m fairly confident that CT didn’t condone he’s actions and what he was found guilty of. I know Broussard personally, myself. He coached at my high school in 1995, and I ran into him over the years. What he did was beyond reproach, but that’s not the person I knew. To say CT didn’t have morals, and wasn’t a man of a character as some in West Orange want ppl to believe is bull crap. They are reaping what they have sown. -
Port Arthur Memorial (24) @ Baytown Lee (28) - FINAL
MackLewis replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football
At the end of the day, these are 16-18 yr old kids. They get cocky and buy into the hype, they don’t prepare hard and don’t take certain opponents seriously, and they come out flat. It happens weekly across the state. Timpson did they same thing tonight in Joaquin, although the Rams are a solid team. Timpson squeaked it out by making adjustments and waking up the 2nd half. It seems like PAM’s coaches failed to do the same. I’d love to see a program like Memorial with a coach like Therwanger. -

Correct. The current Head Coach was the d-line coach. Not even a coordinator. I would expect something like that at Splendora, or Crockett, but not the most ballyhooed program of all time. The deeper issue could be them running all the assistant coaches off too. The guys that left had well over 100+ years of coaching experience. And they replaced them with far inferior coaches. Look at the track records they brought with them. For the most part, the head coach instills the culture, structure, discipline, expectations….. all of that. The assistants coach, game plan, develop, all those things. Not saying the head coach don’t coach and make adjustments, but WOS is pitiful in all areas. 4-5 on the year with what most considered a good team coming back. Their season is done. They will finish 6-6 on the year. Maybe 5-6. The kids have quit the coaches it seems. -
Mean Green Wolverines of Mansfield, LA
MackLewis replied to Dirty_but_Dazzling's topic in High School Football
If Mansfield has the patience, Barbay will turn them around. They have the athletes. North Desoto, and Logansport has them as well, and they win. But Mansfield is a tough place. Hopefully the kids and community buy in. -
Who has the better football programs THIS YEAR?
MackLewis replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in High School Football
What does the future look like going forward for BISD football, and what is it going to take for them to be competitive? How is the overall talent coming up, and how are the sub-varsity squads? As I’ve said before, absolutely zero reason for those schools to be this pitiful. Sad to see how far they’ve fallen so fast. Same can be said for Lufkin and Cedar Hill. -

West Orange-Stark (21) @ Hamshire-Fannett (26) - FINAL
MackLewis replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football
I think the decline will get worse. The discipline, toughness, conditioning, will all further decline as the years go by. It was gonna be hard to replace CT with just anyone. It was gonna take an extensive, open-minded, state wide search for the best. They didn’t do that, and they will continue to pay the consequences. -

MackLewis replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football
No way…. You serious? That’s ridiculous. I’ve seen administration on the track around the field before, but have never seen a superintendent, or principal, interact with the coaches or players. Unless you want to consider “Principal” Hickman the last few years assuming coaching duties. -
About 13-14 years ago or so, Shelbyville had a good team. They were undefeated in non-district and really felt good about their team heading into district. The problem was, they were 3A at the time, and in a district with Newton, and a Jack Alvarez led Kirbyville team. They were 5-0 and opened district against Kirbyville. They got beat 61-7. This game will be somewhat the same.

Beaumont United (14) @ Humble Kingwood (45) - FINAL
MackLewis replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football
Serious question… how are the participation numbers at United? Do they have a lot of kids out for football as a whole? My brother was at the game, and said the United dance team had 5 girls on it, and the band was extremely small in numbers too. Wondering if the football program is suffering from lack of participation and interest as well. There’s something to that. Back in the day, you wouldn’t have seen an Ozen, or Central with such low numbers.
