  1. Nederland has a nice program right now.  However, the historical information on this site says they have finished 1st once between 1996-2006.    If they were much larger than their competitors(think North Shore) their record would be more impressive.  That's all I'm saying.

You will have up and down years unless you are bigger than most of your opponents.  WOS is obviously a great program. I am sure there are other exceptions across the state, as well.

WOS is definitely an exception to the rule.

  2. Long term results?  The only way you will win every year is to have the biggest school in the district every year.   I mean, with all the tradition, and their feeder schools, where has PNG been the last 10 years?   I'm just saying, it's not limited to Beaumont.   Nearly everyone has ups and downs

I disagree on the biggest school idea. WOS was the smallest in our district for years. Since their departure to 3A

(WOS) Nederland has been the most consistent team in our district and even though it is a good size school, it is not the largest.

  3. I was at the BC game that night but I worked with some LCM fans and they were bragging about it. Later they admitted that it was not a fight but that the Indian was doing his dance and the bear tried to disrupt it. I think he pushed the Indian down or something like that. I was told that the Bear and his principal went to PNG to apologize. I don't know if any of this is the whole truth but this is what I was told.

Thats pretty much how it went down. Would have been funny but was done during the traditional yell and intro of Cheerleaders and Indian Spirit. It wasn't that bad(warranting an apology) just bad timing.

  4. ive been reading this a few mins now and every post has ozen ranked really low....I was just wanting to know why everyone is counting this team out ....from seeing them in their spring game they seem to be on course to have a pretty good year...of course they lost a few big named players but they seem to have a solid group of kids....and i hear nelson is doing great in keeping them disciplined and motivated

I think the reason most are counting them out is the same some are discounting Vidor. I don't think it is right but a lot predict the future on the results of your past. I guess for some folks , respect must be earned.Lumberton went through it a couple years ago, they won week after week while evryone doubted them every week. The worst case I have seen for this was Nederland during the mid 90's. They couldn't get the respect they deserved. It took a couple years of winning before our local media gave them the respect that they had more than earned. You will just have to prove them wrong week after week to be taken seriously by some.

  5. Attendance for these 10 games are among the highest on record in state history:

    Attendance Game Site Year

49,953 Plano vs. Port Neches-Groves Texas Stadium 1977*

46,339 Southlake Carroll vs. Euless Trinity Texas Stadium 2006

45,790 Highland Park vs. Waco Cotton Bowl 1945*

45,000 Houston Washington vs. Galveston Rice Stadium 1968

45,000 Dallas Adams vs. Richardson Cotton Bowl 1967

39,102 Garland vs. Katy Astrodome 1999*

    39,102 Stephenville vs. Port Neches-Groves Astrodome 1999*

38,570 Port Neches-Groves vs. Houston Kashmere Astrodome 1977

38,374 Plano vs. Highland Park Texas Stadium 1980

38,000 Odessa vs. San Antonio Jefferson Memorial Stadium (Austin) 1946

36,000 Fort Bend Willowridge vs. Houston Yates Rice Stadium 1988

    * State Championship game

The 6th game on that list(Garland/Katy) was the game that PNG/Stephenville followed. I was there for the entire Garland/Katy game as were many other Indians. It boosted the attendance for that game, just as the stayovers(which probably wouldn't be as many as the early arrivers) added to the total for our attendance.

  6. Seems like I remember tjat you lost MCM that year also.

You are correct bigdog...i guess it would have been more fair for Nederland to miss out that year with the same record as PNG AND a win over PNG as well...seems like PNG was on the good side of a big break a few years prior in their game with Ozen...anyone remember that...I'll bet Coach Brooks does!

I agree if PNG takes care of its own business that year, then a coin toss don't matter. As far as the Ozen game a few years back, Nederland benefited the most from that good break. An Ozen win in that game would have left Nederland at home for the playoffs. That game for PNG was just a matter of sharing a district title or owning one outright.I remember the news clip of the Nederland people on their field following their game waiting for the outcome of the Ozen game fiasco. The field was full and there was a little praying going on. That was a funny site, Nederland praying for a PNG win. Ozen got robbed that night.

  7. I think PNG with its good coaching staff this year we should be able to pull this one out.

I agree with you here ! The change from last year to this year is obviously apparent ! For the better. I'm not to overly concerned with the Defense. I went to alot of the practices and and scrimmages. This is the first time in a long time that I have seen our defensive players tackle with technique and skill and shear raw force. Give the D some more practice time and they will be alot better. Remember Faircloth is a new Head Coach, but the thing he has done is surround himself with assistant coaches that are from high profile and championship teams as well these new coaches have proven themselves. That in itself lends alot to me that he is very intelligent and that PNG FOOTBALL will be a force in the district for some time to come. He pulls the most out of those men on the field. My son went to the camp for incoming freshmen. I was so impressed with the skills taught and the techniques and the excitement that was flowing all over the field and stands.

I don't know what team you were watching, but the PNG I watched on youtube sucked defensively! As far as your coach goes who said he's going to be a winner? He was offensive coordinator for Permian, which hasn't won anything since friday night lights. Some Indian fans act like this guy is Tom Landry or something. It looks like the offense will be better from what I saw, but heck that's not hard to be from what you guys had last year. The defense is going to down right suck. If Barbers Hill has any type of offensive weapons they will be in this game.

Show that brilliance. Permian's record since arrival of Allman and his staff(Faircloth was OC):

2006 Made it to Regionals in Playoffs(9-4)

2007 District Champs Regional Playoffs again(12-1)

2008 District Champs Lost in Regionals to eventual 5A State Champ Allen (12-1)

Permian had one of if not the best offenses in their region.

Does that mean anything for PNG? Maybe, maybe not.But I am addressing the comments about Permian and our coach. So as far as that I don't believe West Brook and Stump would have wanted any of Permian last year. We got the best coach by far that applied for the position.
