  1. There are some pretty intriguing names on that list....

Graham @ Tulsa- Comes from a good college program with an explosive offense.

Foreman @ WOS- Great coach from what I hear. Shocked that he even applied.

    Malone @ Marlin- Marlin's a strong program.

Johnson @ Newton- Isn't he next in line behind Barbay?

Rusty Nail @ Mart- Just love the name.

I think Bickham at John Tyler could be one of the guys Brooks takes a really long look at because of his time as HC there.

It never ceases to amaze me how many guys always put their names in the hat when Jasper opens up. It must still be a great job...

It is a real good job, with some pretty impressive names on the list. Good Luck to ya'll.

  2. So I get the argument that we don't know how effective he will be as a HC because he has never been a HC, but the argument we as PNG fans are making is that if you are going to hire a lifetime assistant coach to be your HC (which happens everyday and has happened in every HC's career) and you are going to Gamble that he can be a good HC, you need to look at the positives. This guy is loaded with positives as an assistant coach. From The great storied programs he has coached and played at, to the great coaches he has learned from, to the numbers (and wins) that his systems have helped to produced. You gotta admit that amongst HS assistants his resume is very impressive. Time will tell if it translates, but the folks in PN and G are very happy with the choice based on the facts.

Also another note about hiring HC's with previous experience being less of a gamble, how about when Permian hired the guy from Sealy who had won several state titles, including one the year before he took the Permian job, and he ruined that program for several years. How about LaMarque hiring this guy from Dallas last year. HC with experience. Look how down they are. It's a gamble no matter who you pick because it is different!

Remember the most successful HC in our local 4A district the past few years have held only one HC job. Neuman-Nederland, Creuder-Lumberton, Stowers-Central, Has Stewart at Dayton ever been a HC anywhere else?.

    Very well said.

  3. His resume shows nothing about succeeding as a HC.  Let's don't carried away.  He's going to have to prove himself.  He might.  But then again...

Well, it's a crap shot, for sure.  I'm still amazed that this new coach @ PN-G is supposedly the answer when  he's being asked to do something he's never done before.  Not that he can't, just that he hasn't.  DeRouen at Ned. was a good assistant but didn't have much success being a HC.  My only contention has been: to get the most for ones tax dollars, stick with a known commodity.  But, if the tax payers are willing to get involved in a crap shoot, that's OK also.  I'm all about people's freedom to succeed as well as fail.

Point being Neuman as with all HC's was an assitant before he became a HC.

When you look at the resume he was the best candidate for the tax payers money. This guy is going to be good for us.

Then tell me who on the LIST of candidates would have been better. We got a guy who led the best offense in his region. In his three years as offensive coordinator and QB coach he had three different QB's that broke the records of the one before.

  5. Ya a passing attack is the most logical but i have seen a small line not be able to give the QB any time to throw

You could run some type of spread out of the shotgun, or if you going under center you would have to use a three step drop with quick passes.

But, a small line doesn't mean you can't run. Good blocking schemes with a lot of misdirection would work. How about some misdirection out of the Notre Dame Box ?

  6. Faircloth has no HC experience yet, but he has learned from the best.

    1. Played for Brownwood (home of the 2nd all time winningest coach in Texas HS Football)

    2. Coached under Ron Schroeder at Austin Westlake (Schroeder went 187-27 and won a couple of 5A State Titles at Westlake of which Faircloth was on staff)

    3. Coached under Randy Allen at Highland Park (Allen went 106-11 and won a state title in 4A with Faircloth on staff)

    4. Coached under Allman at Permian (Allman has turned Permian back into a west Texas power and top ten team)

I'd say he had to learn a few pretty good things about running a program and it looks like he has some pretty good coaches to call on if he has questions!

I totally agree. Coach Faircloth has the expertise to offer advice at his finger tips if he needs it.

They hired the right guy no matter what anyone says. I think any school in our area that is in the same situation of hiring would love to have him. But, we got him.

  7. This is the hidden content, please

Crouch may not be the only coach leaving WOS.  Mike Pierce is moving to the Katy area, Ed Dyer is rumored to be going with Crouch to LCM, and Kevin Goodwin is a finalist for another position.

All the coaches leaving is a compliment to Coach Hooks.Thats the hard thing about a good coach like Hooks. A good coach always tries to but the best supporting cast he can around him and they get noticed and deservingly move on. Also a good learning oppurtunity for working under coaches Like Coach Hooks. Working for any coach of his level is a stepping stone.
