APSE Class 4A All State Team
NorthoftheBorder replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Shocked that a top UT recruit is left off of this list, deserving or not (in this case deserving of being on the list, but in many cases they make the list undeseringly)! One in particular was 4A Defensive Player Of The Year a few years back, but 2nd team All-District!
And he has surprised me by making the depth chart and seeing the field. Thought for sure he would have been a transfer by his second year. -

Kelly headed to state championship game

Bring a state championship back to Beaumont! Go Kelly Bulldogs! -
When you win championships and playoff games, attendance takes care of itself. If Woodard gets caught up in promotions on attendance to earn that bonus, then the focus is completely wrong. If he stops "good ole boying" the way he runs the program, he may have the kind of success that LU supporters desire.

Feeling undersized the norm for Kelly linemen
NorthoftheBorder replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
What a refreshing example of what team ball is all about and everyone playing to their best ability within the team concept. Good luck to Kelly this weekend! I love underdogs. -
Is Time Warner carrying the Longhorn Network in the Triangle?
That is really a nice looking stadium!!! UNT alums and students should be proud.

What is the UIL going to do about LaMarque
NorthoftheBorder replied to Z04AEA's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
NOTHING!!!! Thats what the UIL is going to do in this situation!!!! -

The UIL is a coward in this situation. The excuse that it happened after the final horn sounded but the kids were still on the field reeks of a yellow spine!
I am not a big fan of the UIL, either and like you, I have a measure of frustration that there is no involvement on what could have been a life threatening issue for folks on both sides. However, I can't really can't really be too critical in this case. The fact is plain and simple, the UIL does not have any rules on the books with regard to post game fighting. Believe me, I looked. They have rules regarding in game fighting. They even have rules about fighting at halftime. But there is absolutely NOTHING with regard to sanctions for post game fighting. So for the UIL to have acted, would have involved very creative interpretations of the UIL Constitution which would have probably opened themselves up to a different sort of criticism. Coach Jackson is reputed to be someone who is willing to sanction his own players, we'll just have to see if he lives up to that reputation.
I would think that as long as the teams are on the field of competition and in uniform, the UIL should take sanction responsibility. Their own rules protect them from getting involved in this situation. I say they need to change the rules.

I can't say what will happen in regards to Ozen's self dicipline (I am hopeful that they will properly address the situation), but I am confident that based on how many years LM has brought the "in your face, taunting attitude", if anything they will reward their players for their actions. It will not stop at LM until they are punished severely from the outside. The UIL is a coward in this situation. The excuse that it happened after the final horn sounded but the kids were still on the field reeks of a yellow spine!

Fight mars end of Ozen's playoff run
NorthoftheBorder replied to SgtRey's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I'm not going to go into detail about who I am, hopefully my member name speaks for itself, with that being said; yesterday was total misrepresentation of the Panther Program and any team who faced Ozen at any point from 97 til 2011 knows this has never happened. I witness a totally non-disciplined team from LaMarque from the pre-game warm up in which a player crossed the 50 yard line and begin jaw jacking to players who were doing ground stretches and had to be pulled away by coaches and teammates too the first punch being thrown by a LaMarque WR which drew a flag and the entire LM bench coming onto the field.. Honestly you wanna lay blame first at the players but you can't totally blame KIDS. POOR OFFICIATING AND POOR DISCIPLINE FROM LM COACHES.. At the end of any game following the good sportsmanship handshake teams are escorted either to the right or left by their coaches this was not the case on yesterday.. I will say this and leave this topic alone until these kids are lead with discipline first and not allowed to act first then get reprimanded this won't be the last time it happens
I have only seen LM play one time and what you described that you saw in the Ozen game is exactly what I saw myself 4 years ago. -
Ozen/LaMarque Brawl...
Seems they were a little scrappy last year when they played Dayton. :( It's sad really. The adults in charge of these kids, seem to over look the obvious.
Quite frankly I think they encourage it. -
ANother fight on the field, They are brawling on the field
You should have seen the LaMarque team and players after Lumberton beat them 4 years ago. The whole thing, from the pregame to the end of the game was one of the worst displays I have ever witnessed.

CROSBY HEAD COACH HAS RESIGNED
NorthoftheBorder replied to RED MACHINE's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Guys Flanigan was basically givern the option of staying as a non-head coach or leaving he choose to leave. No firing was placed in the mix. Regardless telling ur AD we don't want you to be the head coach is as close to firing as possible. But officially it was a resignation.
You know that in reality he was fired. Being forced out by giving someone an option you know they do not want to take to force them to resign is a spineless way to fire someone. It basically says I can't fire you based on merits but I don't like you and want you gone. Lets at least be intellectually honest about this! -
CROSBY HEAD COACH HAS RESIGNED
NorthoftheBorder replied to RED MACHINE's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I don't know what has transpired. I used the term fired because as successful as he has been he probably wouldn't have resigned unless he knew he was going to be forced out, which is being fired. I do not know Kevin Flanigan personally but my brother as well as other friends know him so I am sure I will hear his side of this story. The timing makes it look bad in light of the school boards attitude toward Vidor. Who knows what would happened had he won that game. It will all be speculation until we hear some credible facts. Still don't plan on stopping in Crosby. And I know without a doubt that there are really good folks that live there so I do not want to besmerth the fine citizens that make it their home. -
CROSBY HEAD COACH HAS RESIGNED
NorthoftheBorder replied to RED MACHINE's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I understand the seemingly sudden resignation of Coach Flannigan may shock some. What's even more shocking is the ineptitude with which he and his staff meander through the season and try to mitigate ridiculous losses with a playoff run that lasts a couple of weeks. There's no hidden story or failure to play someone's child behind his dismissal. It's the 33-32 loss to baytown lee after being up 10 points late in the fourth, the continous shortcomings with heated rival dayton who often has less talent but superior coaching, and the most stomach churning which is losing to vidor who runs a pop warner offense with players who wouldn't even start at crosby. I think what sums it up is the 49-7 2009 home playoff loss to dayton in which the post-game hand shake heard jerry stewart tell kevin flannigan, "If I had your team I would win it all." You have to remember, Haynes did more with less. It's about winning over here, and not just winning district games. There should be a conserted effort to win them all, and undoubtedly the school board feels the same way most of us do. Overall flannigan is a good person and decent leader of young men. . . . He's just not the coach for crosby.
Wow!!!! The truth did come out. Vidor puts a spanking on Crosby and due to biases in the community, the head coach gets fired!!! That is incredible!!! I don't think I will ever stop on my HWY 90 trips to Houston and spend a dime in Crosby again in my life!
