I would think that Barbers Hill and Vidor are very similar teams, both offensively and defensively. You say that Ozen was a matchup problem for BH, but Vidor had no problem with Ozen, beating them in district. ;)
Vidor did beat Ozen, but they did have problems as well.  ;) ;)
But they won!  ;)  And why, with all of Crosby's speed did they just not run away from Vidor?  Run past them, run by them?
 2.
Nay-sayers kinda silent right now
We won a game that we should have won!!! How much adoration do you think is necessary?
 3. Wow!!! Now that give me hope that we are going in the right direction.  It may not show up this year in wins and losses but I have some hope that it will in the next few years.  Then again Knight just might have these guys playing championship ball come tournament time!!!
 4. I guess we will just have to wait and see!
 5. Obviously Fritz isn't insecure about having some experience on his staff.  These guys have the experience to be coordinators and get the job done.  In the process Fritz looks like a genius.  I think that Hinshaw was the only coach on the staff with a lot of DI experience and from everything I heard there was conflict and he left.  I think that what maybe what I am struggling with is that it looks like our staff is in the "on the job training" mode and frankly that bothers me.  I have no experience as a paid Jr or Sr High School or college coach so I am not qualified.  I just have 40+ years of watching sports and observing the traits of those coaches who are successful.  I also have 30+ years of being in the business world and working with first class as well as poorly run companies.  All successful organizations (including sports teams) have common leadership traits and habits.
 6.
I picked Crosby to win handily---wrong, wrong, wrong---congrats to Vidor, the Pirates are for real!!!
I really like seeing you be wrong!!!!    ;D
I have a feeling that if Bevil is healthy, he will get the start. Woodard was asked in the SLC phone presser today, but said he would not comment on depth chart situations.
There is so much to say about this situation but it is just fruitless to comment.  I will say that I was there during the Ken Stephens era and I remember going to Cardinal Club luncheons after a string of losses throughout his carreer and the sick feeling I (and others around me) had and frankly, I am starting to have those same feelings.  Again, I hope that I am wrong and I want LU to be successful, and apart from the head coach being an absolute moral and social ingrate, I don't mind who is the coach that leads them to success.  I personally do not know a single person involved with the coaching staff and administration, so I have no axe to grind.  As an unlearned fan, I have no doubt that I am incapable of doing as good a job as where we are, but I just don't get a feeling of comfort that in the long run, we will be successful on the road we are traveling now.  Once again, I am for the current regime to be wildly successful, just dissapointed in what is being said and the results.
Again OMG  OMG  OMG.... This is a new team.  Many many teams do not even win a game their first of second season.  We won 5 the first and 3 so far this season and maybe we might win one or two more.  Give this program a chance.  No comparison at all to the Ken Stevens years.  this is a start up squad and we will eventually be successful.  For all those who do not attend while we are loosing...keep it shut.  For those of us who are there and support these guys through the good times and the bad.  I say thank you and GO BIG RED>>>>>
There is absolutely a lot of similarity to the things Stephens said and what Woodard says after a defeat. I will give you this, it is still early and he has another probably 2 years to prove himself and I really hope he does, but what I am telling you is that what I have seen on the field and HEARD him say from his post game and pregame comments is not inspiring.  Here is the most disturbing thing.  8,000 poeple didn't show up for the SFA game which by all means should have been a big crowd considering the opponent.  The overwhelming majority of those 8,000 never come on this board or the other board so they are not reading what is said here (whether you like what is said or not).  They are just basing their opinion on what they see on the news, read in the papers, see from past games they attended or hear from the game broadcasts.  They are forming their opinion without you or my input.  So tell me why you think they chose not to come! It wasn't because they were at the Ozen/Lumberton game Saturday night.
 8. In spite of the fact that I was vocal on this board that I didn't support the hiring of Pat Knight, I am very encouraged by what I am seeing and hearing from coach Knight.  Basketball could put salve on the wounds of an unhappy fan base over this football season.

 10. Unless I missed something I don't see Houston Memorial on you 5A DII or DI list.
 11.
This GAME will come down to wheather or not Vidor wins Friday. If Vidor Wins I say Ozen comes out and wins this game easilly it will be over by halftime.. 36-12 (OZEN will be playing for playoffs) However if Vidor loses OZEN comes out flat and it could be real interesting for LUMBERTON...
You are probably right! Ozen has the upper hand even if Vidor loses, but the Raiders are scrappy and they have a chance to beat a flat Ozen team.
 12. It is utterly ridiculous that he had not taken snaps in 8-9 weeks.  Poor game preparation in my estimation.  You never know when injuries are goint to put you in a predicament.  Aah Yah Yah Yah Yah!!!!!!
 13. I'm liking the way he is talking!  Gives me hope for the future.
 14. AAW I am really troubled by statements like "I hope the players can bounce back and be motivated" and " we will see".  Can you imagine Bob Stoops saying things like that?  I don't know, but I would think the coach would set a tone that wasn't wishy washy about his teams motivation.
 15.
No love for the Golden Triangle.
We have to face reality.  Are brand of football here is not keeping up with the rest of the state.  It shows in the playoffs.
 16.
"You may not believe but I think we are improved from last year."  Are you kidding me.  Where does he get his material.  Seriously!!
Well he has to be an optimist.  I really can't tell but if we are it is not be leaps and bounds.  I do get the sense that we are learning on the job.  So far most of the lessons have been painful.
 17. I think Vidor needs Lumberton to win this game to guarantee a playoff spot for them.  You would think they would be all over this thread talking about his game.
 18.
Donald Moore has been a personal friend of mine for way over thirty years, And is one of the greatest football players in Texas History! Not only does he hold the interception record but I watched him catch Eric Dickerson from behind when Splendora played Sealy for the area championship about five times. He was at Texas Tech his Freshmen year and was starting at right corner and came home during the season cause of personal problems. Two years later he went back to Tyler Jr. College for two years and set JUCO rushing records that remain unbroken. He did have the talent to play Pro but he had a family at this time and everyone had to eat. He is a student of the game still today and I wished he could have Coached my boys, He is a fine man and someone that always played the game the right way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He had some serious talent!!!!  For a white guy he could go.  Surely he was a consistent 4.4 or better 40 guy.  Thanks for updating the rest of the story.  I am sure he has no regrets but I second your opinion that he had the raw talent to play at the highest level.
 19.
Toups Graphics goes 7 and 1 again, and now his season percentage is at 77%, not too shabby.  The Results and redone Power Rankings are at... [Hidden Content] Would like "yall" to double check me... If... Vidor beats Livingston, and Ozen beats Lumberton, Ozen is in.  Is that correct? And... If.... Baytown Lee beats Goose Creek Memorial, Baytown Lee is in.  Is that correct? Don't want to give away my predictions for week 10, but that affects my power rankings. ps... CONGRATS TO THE RAIDERS!!!  Great night for the kids getting thier first victory of the season, and posting a shut out, none the less!
I am glad it was Lumberton that bit you last week.  You will always pick against them so it was nice to see them prove you wrong once this year.

Does anyone know?
If he is still alive I don't know but think I would have heard of his passing.  Last I knew, he owned a Barbaque restuarant in Fredickburg Tx.  Ate the in the mid 80's and he had some memorbilia in the store and the food was good.  He had retired from a career with Imperial Sugar and had spent a good deal of time in California with the company before retiring in Texas.  I don't know if you can lookup old articles on SI but that is worth anybody's time who likes Texas HS football.
This is probably the article you are referring to: [Hidden Content]
That is it my friend and I had found it a little while ago, read again and was about to post it on here.  Thanks for doing so and I hope all you HS football junkies, young and old will read it.  And yes, there really were some good athletes "back in the day" who could play the game.  They all just don't play now!

 23. Did anyone on the board ever read the Sport Illustrated article about Ken Hall in the early 80's?  It was titled "Whatever happened to the Sugarland Express" and is my alltime favorite SI artlcle.  Was really enlightening and shows that a great HS player has to make the right college decision for his career to advance.  My favorite quote in that article was Bear Bryant saying something like "how I handled Ken Hall was the worst  mistake in my coaching career".
Ya, that's probably the hardest one to break.  Some crazy #'s on there.
The article says the 35 INT's happened in 1956.  I didn't know they threw the ball in the 50's.  ;D
He played 56'-58', and had 55 INT's in his career at Brenham.  He holds the national record in single season INT's, and is 2nd in career INT's. (Behind Splendora's, Donald Moore who had 59 in his career.)
I saw Donald Moore play against Kountze in HS, he was a great HS RB who didn't pan out in college.  He seemed to have it all, speed and shiftyness.  You just never know if a kid has it between the ears to make it.
