Now that you've given us the results for 2011, it will be like watching tape of a game you already know the outcome too. Lets just move on to 2012. ;)
Why attack TT, when me, BR360, and Puddin also all gave predictions on the season.
Woot, you know that TT has that edge to his posts, even pointed wording, that comes accross as he knows more than all of us combined. I appreciate him being on here, he is very knowledgeable, and enjoy reading what he has to say. Sometimes here irks me, but my post was a tongue-in-cheek jab at his know it all attitude, hence the wink. Everyone else puts there hopes, dreams and best guesses, TT just tells us how it is!

Lamar to the WAC- April 2011
NorthoftheBorder replied to Cat79's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
In order for LU to be successful at FBS IMHO, they can't rely on student fees as the main revenue stream to fund it. A much larger amount will have to come from the Lamar community ie...Alumni, donors, corporate sponsors, friends of the University, local community support etc. Let's hope that Dr. Simmons/Tubbs/Tidwell are working on that and/or have it in place. Need to have a 5 year committment for the money necessary to give it a chance to be successful. All FBS programs have a number of "fat cat" supporters who make it happen. -
I got you at 4-7, though 5-6 would not shock me... the SLC is going to be pretty balanced this year. I think NWST, McNeese and then SHSU are the top three teams in the league next year.. Langston University WIN at South Alabama LOSS Incarnate Word WIN at Southeastern La* WIN or LOSS (Lamar will drop one of two games in the 'Cajun Corner) Northwestern St.* LOSS at Texas St. LOSS C. Arkansas* WIN at Sam Houston St.* LOSS Stephen F. Austin* LOSS at Nicholls St.* WIN or LOSS (Lamar will drop one of two games in the 'Cajun Corner) McNeese St.* LOSS
Well TT, you just took all the fun out of next season! Great article. Brings back my own memories of going to out of town High School games with my Dad back in the late 60's & early 70's to places like High Island, West Hardin and East Chambers. Those were "big" road trips back in the day!

Board of Regents Meetings
North, I was just speculating about the court being named after Coach Tubbs. I have no inside knowledge of this being factual. Sorry if I miss lead ya. It would have been better to say the court "should" be named after Coach Tubbs.
I still stand by my statement, and just modify it to say that it should be named after him. -
A lot of people may not like it but the court at the Montagne Center will be named Billy Tubbs Court. Why would anyone have a problem with that?
I like Billy Tubbs and am glad the court is being named for him. There is no one who did more for Lamar Athletics, especially basketball than he did, period! An honor well deserved! -
Lamar, SHS not primary WAC targets
NorthoftheBorder replied to coachacola's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If LU can raise the funds necessary to be competitive and expand PU, improve VB, and add the necessary sports with good facilities, then with a metro population of 350k, there's nor reason Lamar can't support a FBS program and be a target of the WAC, Sun Belt or, hold on to your britches boys, a CUSA. It will take the money to do this. I believe in Dr. Simmons. I hope that the big money guys do as well. -
Sorry, I want no part of a SLC with ACU or any other DII school moving up.
Abilene Christian is the only school of all those mentioned that I believe can rise up to the level of a top FCS conference. The rest would only drag the confernece down. -

The SLC is not a sinking ship. The SLC is more stable than the WAC. If LU leaves, ACU will jump in. That makes for a 10/12 conference. Why does SHSU fear this conference.
If the SLC is back filled with higher quality D2 teams like ACU I have no problem staying put...at this point their football team is as good or beter than what Lamar has fielded...
Not diputing your assessment "at this point". However, that will not be acceptable and hopefully that will change in the 2011 season, 2012 for sure. -
I thought Kevin Smith showed promise in last's years spring game and thought he would have been the better option for the inaugural season. That said, Bevil had some really good games early but faded during the season. Lamar probably only needs 4 Qb's with only about 80 kids on the roster. I assume that Prewitt, Johnson & Smith would make up three of those. I don't want to harang Whitten. We may find out that once the O-line improves and he has more weapons, that the offense will indeed flourish.
This is all pending whether or not we get an invite. With all the smoke that is out there right now, I don't think anyone knows what to believe. I think the only thing that we can say with about 95% confidence is that we will go FBS in the next 5 years for sure.
LU can only go FBS if they are invited by a FBS conference. LU does not control that. They cannot set a timetable and then execute it because Dr. Simmons/B Tubbs/L Tidwell do not control if and when they will get an invite. With all the flux going on, I can't see if being a bad deal to take the WAC offer now. If an opening in another conference that would be better for LU came up, they could move then and it would be better because they would already be FBS qualified instead of moving up from FCS at that time. My opinion! -

any news on LeFredrick Ford?/FORD SIGNS WITH SFA
NorthoftheBorder replied to epg2793's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I don't want to knock Ford, but if he's such a great back then why were the main suitors for his services between SFA and LU, a pass-oriented team and a second year program? I'm disappointed because you can never have enough good players and Ford would definitely help this team, but Woodard should be able find other comparable backs. One thing that concerns me is that if Lamar joins the WAC (I'm doubting that too since it seemed like Ford to LU was a done deal) then that will really cut down on the FBS transfers. Can Woodard sign the 3-star HS and JUCO players every year?
Coach do you say that with sarcasm or do you have some info we don't know? -
That is a lot of speculation considering the guy signed his LOI today.
As far as LU is concerned Young Mr. Ford is now behind us. He won't be suited up in Cardinal Red, so time to move on and rally around our own troops. Only time will tell if he made the right decision. Good luck to him. -

He can be as good as he wants and prepares to be
Given the Lamar O-line produced a grand total of 1 rushing TD :o last year, unless there is profound and immediate improvement, I fear for "Young Mr. Fords" health & safety in the Lamar backfield, especially facing WAC opponents every Saturday!
I don't think Young Mr. Ford fears for his life, but he is probably touched by your concern! ;) If he doesn't end up at A&M, then it comes down to does he want to be a part of a program on the rise or go to Nac-a-no-where!!!! I guess Nac-a-no=where is a step up from Winnie! ;D -
• 2 SILSBEE SENIORS WILL COMMIT WEDNESDAY Silsbee seniors Jarrian Rhone and Kelson McDaniel will make their college commitments official Wednesday on National Signing Day. Rhone, a first-team All-District 21-3A defensive back and running back, will play slot receiver at West Texas A&M University, a Division II college in Amarillo. Rhone rushed for 649 yards and had 715 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns. Rhone moved to running back after playing receiver his junior season. Rhone had 138 yards receiving as a junior. Kelson McDaniel, a first-team All-District selection at quarterback, will play receiver or defensive back at Abilene Christian University, a Division II school. McDaniel threw for 2,502 yards and 25 touchdowns this season and rushed for 566 yards. McDaniel had 470 yards receiving as a junior. KTXS News in Abilene reported the school is considering a switch to the Div. I Football Championship Subdivision.
Southland Conference!!!!! Also it looks like W T A&M is recruiting hard in SE Texas these days. -
I have alway hated to see a coach not make it. I don't know what will happen concerning the mens BB coaching situation. That said, it is IMHO that if a change is made, we need COMPLETELY NEW BLOOD in the program, that is a new coach who has no previous ties to LU that has the pedigree to get this back to where Billy Tubbs had the program his 1st go around. I think only new blood can make that happen.

Ford has top 3/FORD SIGNS WITH SFA
NorthoftheBorder replied to Lefty99's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If LU goes to the WAC, in 4 years Ford will have a minimal number of wins, and be on the wrong side of a number of blowout losses. Remember, SFA beat them 71-3. Just think what playing in the WAC will mean during the next 4 years, W-L wise. Conversely, SFA has been in the playoffs the last two years, Back to Back SLC Champions, and finished 2010 ranked #9 Nationally. Lots more fun driving down that road! 8)
I like Dr. Simmons & LU's goals for their future. They are not content to stay in a conference that is going to become weaker. Looking to improve and it will happen, not overnight but in time. The past 10 years of improvement at LU is a good barometer of what can happen in the next 10. Young Mr. Ford could be a big part of that plan. He can be as good as he wants and prepares to be @ LU, with the opportunity for more exposure. Go CARDS!
