1. If LU goes FBS in the WAC then in 4 years L. Ford will have had more exposure to the big time than SFA (of course not so with TAMU) and will be a part of history at Lamar in taking the program big time.  Those lineman are not all Freshmen so they will not be there the whole time while LU's line is pretty young and only will get better while Ford is at LU.

 3.
As soon as L. Ford and J. Johnsons authentic jersey's go on sell I'm buying a couple of each. It's great to get juco talent but you can't beat star athletes with four years of eligibility remaining. Two great players to build an offense around.
I don't know if anyone else is thinking this but if LU signs Ford to go along with Jeremy Johnson, it seems that this would necessitate a change in offensive philosphy from an all pass offense to a much more balances offense that runs the ball more, probably some type of option run/pass scheme.  Just thinking.
Here's what Scout says about him:
Not very fast but he is efficient in his running of the routes and in getting open. He has great hands and won't drop the ball then he takes off and runs tough. His speed will limit what schools he will get offered by and make being D1 tough, his hands and route running skills are above average.
[Hidden Content]
Big difference between this scout.com report and the one up above that says his 40 time is 4.52

[Hidden Content]
Is A&M making a late push?  I know they have been mentioned before but I wonder is they were luke warm on him for awhile but then have turned up the heat when they maybe didn't get someone else they preferred.
Thats what Im sayin TAPS isnt the type of comp he is gonna see next year ;)
The game I saw was probably one of his worst games, they got throttled by a pretty good team, but then turned around the next week and beat the district champs in their final regular game.  I know one of the receivers at Second Baptist so I will check this out and see what's up.
 7. I like to stay focused on what it will take for LU to be successful, whether we make the move to WAC or stay FCS.  If we move, I trust that Dr. Simmons and his team of Tubbs and Tidwell have prepared a very detailed plan that includes what is would take financially to be successful, not just the minimum that would be needed.  Lets do this right and have a real chance to elevate the program and the University.  This could be huge for LU and Beaumont.  As for our friends at Sam, I wish nothing but the best for them and I wouldn't mind at all if they joined us in a move if we make it.  Would love to see ULL make the move to the WAC as well.  That would be a great addition for LU.

LU will be a member of the WAC. They will get the invite and will accept. Was told we could get an announcement of this very soon.
AAW, are you hearing any info on funding this move?  Time table to expand the PU stadium?  If you can share some info without compromising your sources please do so?  Have to give LAZEEK some credit.  He was out front on this one.  Hope that the LU community will really rally around this move and propel the athletic program and the University to new heights!
According to what I was told, those "ducks are in a row", but we never talked the logistics of it. I understood that some donors are "waiting in the wings". ;)
They would have to be or it just isn't realistic to be talking this move.  It going to be interesting to see how this plays out in the next few months.

 11. I am pretty sure you can have a small bowl on both ends of the stadium, but it would obstruct the view of the Athletic Complex, but if seating is necessary, you have to do what you have to do.  I don't see PU ever being much more than 30-32K with the Athlectic complex being so close on the south end and the Montagne on the North end.  Hopefully any final expansion includes the suites that you mentioned 360!
 12.
I do believe Lamar will be added as the next WAC member.  Benson will be sending invites to teams in April.  If Lamar is given an invite and accepts this year would be your last year in FCS, Lamar would be FBS transitional in 2012 (which would count as FBS wins for WAC teams) and Bowl eligible in 2013. Lamar would be on the same timetable as Texas State which is one year ahead of UTSA.  We have signed home and home series with Wyoming and Navy. Bobcat Stadium is scheduled to be complete with our new addition taking the capacity to 29,500.  Your old rival Louisiana Tech would be on your schedule again. I hope you guys join us in the WAC.
1st and last year in FCS.  I am taking a cautious approach.  It is my preference, but not a necessity to go FBS.  Saying that, I hope that Dr. Simmons is in the process of securing the funding that is necessary to have a real chance to be successful.  If we can't get the proper funding, it doesn't make sense to go forward
 13. I hope that this pays huge dividends.  Need some of those O & D-Line guys to become "big nasty's".
GSU played Alabama last year so a second year Lamar team and team not near as good as Alabama especially without Andy Dalton should help us keep it within 50, right?. If the money and exposure is there it is worth the loss.
Alabama began running second stringers in the game early in the 2nd quarter.  They called the dogs off pretty quick and worked hard not to totally embarras GSU.  It could have been so much worse.  Don't know if TCU's coach would do the same.  If he has a Billy Tubbs mentality, they would hang a 100 on us in a heart beat.  Not sure that would be beneficial in the short or long term.  I could see doing this if Woodard and the TCU coach were buddies and they would have mercy on us.  Just to soon to play a team that finished 2nd in the final polls for last season.  I like the progression that the schedule makes right now with Hawaii, OSU and TAMU in each of the successive years starting in 2012.
It's not the NCAA's fault, it's ESPN. They control whether a sport becomes popular or not, heck look at Bowling or WSOP. Those two "sports" get more coverage than any FCS football. If ESPN covered FCS football it would require them to hire analysts that actually know about the sport. Right now, they only get the ones that are knowledge about FBS. I think there are plenty of NFL players from FCS schools to show that FCS programs can produce the talent, ESPN just doesn't care to cover it.
Your argument has some merit, but there is a "chicken and egg" issue here.   The NCAA could make it a condition of the TV agreement that the FCS gets more/better coverage in order to get to cover the FBS games.  They obviously don't value that level of football or they would do something different in the tv contract.  I think they have the ultimate leverage, at least for the time being.

Is that customary to break down film during the interview?
WOW! That's hard to believe that the candidates had to analyze film during the interview.  That's a scary thought right there on many levels.  Assuming that they all know what he was talking about while a candidate was "analyzing" the film, does that mean that the committee members can have "input" during the season?  I dunno.  Just seems mighty strange to me.
Who on the committee had enough knowledge to actually critique a coaches ability to break down game film?
 19.
You want funny, go look at the La Tech boards and other schools in the WAC and Sun Belt, and see what they think about the idea of Lamar being on "their level." It's kinda funny to think two of the worst conferences in FBS actually have enough pride  to actually look down on someone.
And the answer to that is everybody (well maybe not the Sammy St fans) thinks they are better than someone else, no matter what station in life they are at, unfortunately even us humble LU fans.  We have beaten and been beaten by La Tech.  They are not as high and mighty as they think!
I have to disagree with you North - the move to the Southland was not about saving Giovanne's job - but a financial necessity at the time.  When Cottle came in Lamar was just about broke and had to tighten the purse strings and get their financial house in order.  A lot of the work that Cottle did established a solid base for what Dr. Simmons has been able to accomplish.
It had that smell all over the move and they definately used the football carrot to sell it because it didn't have just an outpouring of support!
