1. I see this as being a very sticky situation for Dr. Simmons.  I am a big fan of his and he has done a superman's job as President of LU.  I think he wants to give Roc as much time as possible to succeed.  I'm just not sure Roc can accomodate Dr. Simmons confidence in him.  I see interest in LU basketball right now to be about as low as it's been since Billy Tubbs first took the job back in 1976.
Marcus Jackson as well. Marcus 41 rec./728 yds/8 TD   played 11 games JJ  52 rec./745 yds/6 TD  played 9 games Both are good and may have a chance. I think both will be seniors in 2011.
I'm pretty sure Jackson was a freshman last season.
 3.

Not much to do around the campus area, so most of the kids go back to Houston, Dallas area on the weekends. LU doesn't have restraunts, bars, fun places close to campus. LU has came along way since I was there in the early 90's, but it still has a long way to go. It would be nice to have an investor bring in a string of businesses along Rolph Christopher betwwen LU and stadium area, then maybe the students would hang out at those places before going to the games. Just a thought.
A few months ago Dr. Simmons hinted that some private development may be taking place soon around Lamar.  Hopefully they'll add more restaurants and such around the campus.  With more students and football games there should be more demand for that.
That needs to start happening in 2011.  It is one of those things that feeds on itself.  You have a good core of on campus students, but with some after hours entertainment venues that breeds more demand which also can add more venues.  You get 6-8k on campus students and you have the makings of something really nice going on in the south end of Beaumont.  The city needs to in on helping Lamar accomplish this because it benefits the city as well.
LAZEEK are you getting all this information from the folks at Debb's Liquor on College Street?????????
Nope......getting it from one of the same sources that said JJ was coming to Lamar about 2-3 months ago!!!!!
And the same source that say's LU will be in the WAC in 2012?
 5.
Must be some heat on him!!!!!
Maybe he sees that the talent pool is drying up and will not be able to duplicate the success he's had.  You know how it goes, win a couple of state championships and then follow that with 3-4 years of 7-3 or 8-2 with 1 or two playoff games and all of sudden you can't coach and your a bum!

 7. How much did he play at Cisco?  Did he start?  Not much information on his on field performance there.

 9. Does anyone know if he even visited Lamar?
 10. Met Cazzy & his wife back in the late 80's.  Was a really nice guy and showed a strong faith in Christ back then.  Glad to hear he is still in the area doing the Lord's work. Back to the topic.  If Lamar can get Riley, I am all for it.  Just think what a benefit this would be to Jeremy Johnson.  Riley will probably be a coach himself and is like having an extra position coach (QB's) on the team, not to mention how well he can play on the field right now.  Lamar needs to make it's best pitch.  Hopefully LU feels right to Riley.
 11. I say that Terror is strangely silent these days and will not answer a direct question regarding Sam Houston's position regarding the WAC.  I think maybe they are working in the background to get this going and slip in past LU while Puddin Tane convinces everyone its a bad move for LU.  Then Terror going to have the last laugh and Puddin will help fullfill Terror's opinion of LU that we are bumbling fools.
 12.

besides a possible bowl game on espn 2 in front of 11,000 people in a 60,000 seat stadium... what is a benefit of joining the wac?  a bunch of teams, far away, that people in se texas could care less about. its the worst FBS conference in the nation...why is it soooo much better than the southland?
More money to play at other FBS schools. More national attention than the SLC. Have you read what sports writers are saying about the SLC after Mike James record breaking game? All of them don't have a very high opinion of the SLC. Other FBS schools would be willing to travel to Beaumont. I'm not talking about the Top 50 programs. However, it is possible to get UH, UNT, UTEP, Rice, ULL, UL-Monroe, Arkansas State and so on. The SLC is dieing. I don't hate the SLC and if we stay I'm cool with that for the moment.
the same national attention idaho, new mex st and denver get?  quick...name their mascots.. RESPECT?  The teams that havent left the WAC are doormats...yall actually think utah st + idaho + new mex st would outdraw mcneese, sam, and stephen f?
You're not getting it. Outside of McNeese, Sam, and SFA, who else would draw in BMT? No one else in the SLC. Yes, LU would have to hose Utah St, Idaho, New Mex St, etc... But they also will be able to host other FBS schools. If you want to keep playing Webber Int, OPSU, etc... Stay in the Southland. The bigger and better schools wait on the other side..
He ain't going to get it either.  Save your breath when it comes to Puddin.
 13. Honestly all I know about this years team is what I see on this sight.  I am puzzled by what I hear and read on the site and by the scores and losses.  I really thought that Tic Price was a good coach and would bring something to the floor coaching aspect of LU Basketball.  I just can't figure out why LU basketball continues to languish.
 14.

Go suck an egg Terror....lol.
So, where is Lamar going to play Arkansas? Are they going to play in Little Rock? Or perhaps in Jonesboro? It has to be on Arkansas turf - just ask Monroe about their home game...  :D Waiting for you to own up to the fallacies of your previous statement... Perhaps Lamar can play Florida State in Miami, Fla. and call it a home game.... ;)
He's alive!!!!! ;D
 15.
There are a few things I want to say. First, Jeremy is 6’2” tall and he weighs 187 lbs. He has not been 175 lbs. since his junior year in high school. Second, he decided to come to Lamar because he did not want to sit out a second year to play for another FBS school, or go the JUCO route like Cam Newton did. Third, Lamar offered JJ a scholarship before they offered anyone else a scholarship back in 2009. Fourth, he did not leave WVU because he was homesick. There were other issues that came into play. The homesick statement that WVU made was a cover story for other underlying issues. Not only did Jeremy leave WVU, seven other players left including the # 2 ranked dual threat QB in the nation Barry Brunetti. Furthermore, they fired their OC Jeff Mullens, RB coach Beattie, OL coach Johnson, TE coach McMichael and their HC Bill Stewart is a lame duck coach for one year before they reassign him after the 2011 season. Fifth, JJ will compete for the QB job and he will be fine. I am not going to say a whole lot about the stats, but I will say this: JJ threw a lot of balls down the field his senior year.  He did not throw a whole lot of those hitch passes and screen plays that build stats, like some do. So, if a 57% completion rating seems horrible to some, that’s ok. It got him noticed on the nation level (Ranked 9th by rivals.com, Ranked 8th by scout.com, and Ranked 5th in Texas by sports Illustrated) even if he didn’t play for a 5A school. By the way, Earl Thomas, Tramain Thomas, Sean Weatherspoon, and Trey Franks didn’t either.
Very good post.  Hopefully this will shut up all the chatter.
 16.

No surprise here either.  With his Dad gone and the injuries that Riley sustained over the past few years, Riley needs to transfer to D1A(FCS) football.  He's a heckuva player, tough as boot leather, and fun to watch.  Just a a different level.  Sorry to see him leave UNT. Riley would be a good pick up for Lamar. He has two years of eligibility left.  Here's the ESPN article. Dodge
pass....
I'll take him at Lamar!
 17. Jeremy Johnson is coming to Lamar. I am happy about that.  He is a very talented young man.  All Lamar fans should be excited.  Jeremy will make his own future by how well he prepares and performs.  Lets all trust coach Woodard and the staff to coach and develop the players.

 19.
And Pearland has 46 jrs.comin back for 2011 :o
If that is true, Pearland would have to implode not to repeat as state champs next year.  I for one am glad to see Euless Trinity lose.  Not a fan of that program.
 20.
[Hidden Content]
He is definately pursuing this job.  Woodard needs to start developing his backup plan.
 21. Allright AAW, I know that you know what is going on.  Are you going to give some insight on JJ's options and his thinking?
 22.
how did ced reed get  1st team all state? He plays in a weak district and he was a non-factor in the game against coldspring.
I am a UT fan but the fact is he is a UT committ.  That IMHO is the reason.
 23.
Coach Woodard is probably offering on potential. The guy is 6'5, 245 so in four years he could be a OT. I think Coach Woodard told him he would have a chance to play QB but I personally don't see that happening. Read an article that stated Lamar has recruited 11 kids that played QB in HS and moved them to different positions.
Well there is no potential if you don't have a work ethic and their is an attitude issue.  I don't know this for sure, just what has been reported.  I'll trust Woodard.
 24.
[Hidden Content] [Hidden Content]
Am I correct in that this is from when Garrett was a senior at WOC?
 25. He is not one of the elite football players from the area.  I have no inside knowledge about the kid but IF the work ethic issue is real and IF their is an attitude problem as was also asserted in the big controversy with Nederlands team this year, then I don't see where it is worth a scholarship.  don't know what is true and what is not, just an observation.
