1. Where's the beef?  Hopefully we will pick up a few good O & D linemen and the offseason program will also help the line performance next year.
 2.
RB -Trinty Wilson - Wimberley Texans
Lamar is recruiting this young man?  If so can you give his season stats?
 3. Don't see UT going independent.  In this day and time, it doesn't work like before.  Notre Dame is exhibit #1.  They will eventually join a confence.  The Big 12, or maybe UT should look to align with ND and then keep the really good schools in the Big 12 and then pick off a few SEC/Big Ten schools and form a newly revamped conference.  Say Keep UT/A&M/Oklahoma/OKie lite/Mizzou & KU under the Big 12 umbrella, then add ND and pick off say LSU/Alabama/Auburn/Arkansas (screw the Florida schools) from the SEC and also add OSU/Michigan/Michigan State from the big ten (oh poor Nebraska)and you have the premiere conference in the college football.  The the rest of the guys scramble to fill the open slots.
 4. UNLV said: My current prediction of CUSA in 5-7 years.      SMU Houston Tulsa Memphis K-st Iowa st Texas tech Baylor Southern miss UAB Tulane UTEP UNLV, under this plan where do you put UT and TAMU?  The SEC?
 5.
The open enrollment agenda is not about sports or any other UIL competition. The issue is money and the competition for state funding. That is where districts are now. The current state funding system is so poor that many districts have to change their policies to compete for enrollment. LCM and others will police themselves correctly to prevent any repercussion.
I wish I believed you that anybody would police themselves.
 6.

That was Longview's preference.
Did not know that playing a playoff game out of state was possible. Interesting.
I remember 8-10 yrs ago Maybe it was Jasper or LCM, I don't know, but they played a playoff game in Nachitoches La at Northwestern State.  I would say advantage Longview on this one.
 7.
BISD has open enrollment within the district if I am not mistaken. It has to do with the two "Magnet" schools correct? If a player transfers to LCM and is found not to have paid the $1700 annual fee and still lives outside the LCM district, then I would call for LCM's head! Serious multiple year penalties in whatever sport it is. This has to be governed tightly.
Exactly, this is going to open a pandora's box.  I think Vidor has already approved this but I don't remember a big fuss about it when it happened.  I think that people are concerned here with an influx of WOS players coming to LCM (some already have) where no one really thinks that many kids if any will move to Vidor to play football.  Once again, no one is concerned about the academic issues here, just the "Friday Night Lights".  What will be done next to bastardize our education system for the sake of a championship team?
 8. This maybe the end run around the voucher debate.  If only this were being done for academic reasons, but NOT!!!!!!
 9.
Looking at 20-4A's all district picks........it is kinda like everyone gets a trophy so no ones feelings get hurt
That's for sure!  20-4A wants to be politically correct and not damage the self esteem of the parents LOL!!!! I don't know much about this district but I did see Merka play as a sophmore and he was very impressive.  In the end, these things are like "Senior Superlatives", they make great yearbook fodder but don't mean much as to what happens in a kids future, they are no guarantee to future success.  They only really mean something to the self esteem of the fans and parents.
 10.
Enjun07, I can assure you Trevin's family has NO connections and is by far 'buddy buddy' with any coaches that voted. I'm sorry that Nelson didn't make 1st team. With those stats that is sad, bit don't drag 2 of the boys who did down because of it. They were 2 of our hardest playing players with more heart than I've seen in most teams as a whole. Congrats to Trev and Brent on a great job this year!
With as many receivers as there already is on the first team, adding Nelson to it surely wouldn't water it down any, in fact it would bring it up a few notches!
 11. Like everything else these days, All District picks have become meaningless because you have about 18-20 picks each for both offense and defense for both 1st and 2nd teams.  Just put all the playoff team starters on both sides of the ball on first team and the non playoff starters on second team and be done with it!
 12. The truth is we are all biased.  You could hang the "Butch" sign on the Walmart parking lot and you would have some who would swear it was a better stadium and vice versa with PU stadium.  Each has things that are better than the other.  My preference is PU stadium.  That is my opinion.
 13. P4E, if you followed the logic of the SETXSports poll voters, then you would rate Central over PNG because their "body of work" over the season justifies them being rated higher than the total A** whipping they took at the hand of the Indians in a head to head matchup.  Just thought I would point that out. ;D
 14.
The really good, fast-with-the-feet, big linemen, or "Big Uglies" as we like to call them, are some of the hardest players to get.  Usually the AQ teams from the big power conferences get the cream of the crop.  Next, the "non-AQ" or mid-majors get their share of the good linemen.  Many programs rely on a few good ones that fall through the cracks or the occasional diamond in the rough, coupled with recruiting the Junior Colleges.  It's tough getting the linemen that make a difference. During Darrell Dickey's time at North Texas, which produced some incredibly good rushing attacks and national rankings a few times, he would recruit decent sized tight ends out of high school.  The 6-4 or taller variety, about 235 lbs, and put them on a weight program during their redshirt year.  Many ended up around 6-4, 290+ pounds, and could move. All-Pro Guard Brian Waters of the Kansas City Chiefs started as a tight end at UNT, 6-3, 234 pounds, move to the offensive line.  Now he's 6-3, 320! Lamar and other teams at the FCS level have a great advantage, in that they can sign transfers from major colleges.  You have several on your team already and are probably contributors on your team.  The players can transfer in and play immediately without sitting out a year (like the are required to do when transferring from one FBS program to another FBS program.  Good way to get good lineman and other positions too. Takes time.
Very intelligent post.  Can we trade some of our fans for you?
 15.
#4 PN-G - The lack of overall team speed will hurt PN-G.  I watched the PN-G vs Barbers Hill game, and there were many plays that a running back from lets say Dayton or even Livingston would have had the speed to break a long play against either team.
If this PNG team blocked as well as the 1975 state championship team then the "lack of overall team speed" would not be a big problem.  Not many speed burners on that team, but in the words of the immortal Bob West, the 1975 PNG team was the best downfield blocking team he has ever witnessed at all levels of football, Pro to peewee.
 16. What's the status of Kevin Smith's injury and him being ready for spring?
 17.

Great post LumberCard as I heard Coach Woodard address a person asking about recruiting. He said, Lineman, lineman and more lineman; then the best athletes available. We are small for a FCS level school on the OL and DL. I heard one of the DL for Lamar was outweighed by over 100 lbs by a SD O-Lineman.
The game is always won in the trenches. If you can't establish that area then a few things happen: You can't run the ball, you won't have a dynamic passing attack, sacks will happen too many times, and fumbles will happen because the defense is getting to the ball right on the snap On the defensive side, you'll give up huge rushing yards to opponents and big pass plays because they have time to throw
Sounds like you have seen a few of our games! ;)
 18. Any stadium with site line problems has issues.  Not good architectural planning!
 19. You presented a very honest assessment of the board poll.  I think the only other thing would be to post who votes on the poll and what schools they represent.  Truth is I don't read it every week, and if I were a voter it would be impossible to weed out my own bias.  Never came on here to say I had all the right answers.  But I would hope that at the end of the day everyone would want to get the top 3-5 pretty correct as to who really is the best team no matter the record or classification.  That's my opinion.  After the top 5 it probably is anybody's guess as to how to rank them with not much consensus.
 20.
Why is it so hard to understand that this poll is not a ranking of who would win head to head?  It has been said, typed, explained, rehashed, questioned, reexplained, ans otherwise beat to death.
Then by all means by definition it is a bogus poll.  It only serves the purpose of those who vote on it.  I guess you guys are following the same model as the AP high school poll and college poll.
 21.
As a fan, I would prefer Provost-Umphrey over Da Butch. Much better stadium to watch a game. As a broadcaster, I prefer Da Butch. The pressbox is much, much nicer and easier to work in than the pressbox at PU.
I expect vast improvements in the future to Lamar's Pressbox.
 22.

He's teams have not produced very good numbers on the ground and that goes back to his days at SHSU. Ask one of their fan's that frequent the forum. I don't care if yards per sack are entered into the total number per rush attempts because it is the same for all DI schools. Less than 30 yards rushing and another game without a rushing TD says there is something missing be it the OC schemes, the OL, the RB's or all the above. We have to fix this problem in the offseason or next year will be a long one as SHSU is better, then there is SFA, McNeese, Texas State for a year and the rest of the SLC. We have to manage the game using our run game which keeps the clock moving and the defense off the field. Passing the ball, the clock stops with every incompletion or the player runs out of bounds or he makes a first down and the clock stops til the chains are moved.
You can use a short passing game in lieu of a running game.  And, in college, the clock only stops temporarily on out of bounds plays if I recall correctly.  I think this was a fairly recent rules change to speed the game up a bit.
You know for all the hype at Texas Tech about the air game under Mike Leach, they never won a championship.  I think you need some bubble screens and short passes in your playbook, but if that is all you got it aint going to win you the ring my friend.  You have to be able to run the ball.
 23.
Well, of course folks are going to have bias, that occurs in every poll.  But let me ask this, if you had a poll would you put a team that finished 3rd in its conference or league, would you place that team at the top of your poll?
You are a smart guy WOSGRAD.  If you were going to do an honest assesment of who you thoght would win between West Brook/Kirbyville, West Brook/Dayton and Dayton/Kirbyville, who would you pick as the team that would prevail in these matchups.  Whoever you pick to win 2 games is your number one team.  And if you have all of them going 1-1 (oh come on now) then you should have a 3 way tie.  I think we both know that mixing 3A in with 5A is causing some fans to question the poll.  You may have one or two 3A teams each year who can really challenge some good 4A and maybe 5A schools, but the rest most likely can't hang.  Having said all that, I may or may not look at the poll next year, but one thing is for sure, I won't get my britches in a wad if I do.
 24. This thread is no longer needed.  Will a moderator please kill it?
 25. Provost Umphrey, and it will only get better over time with addittional improvements in the future and expanded seating capacity.  Not saying the BISD stadium is not really nice.  Look what having these two stadium has done for playoff games in the Golden Triangle.  Can anyone tell me the last time we had that many 1st round games and any second round games in our area?  Having some "home field advantage" can only help our area playoff teams.
