Credit Woodard for making tough schedule
NorthoftheBorder replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
In an interview a month or two ago Woodard specifically talked about the path Lamar wanted to take starting up the program. He said that from talking to different folks at Lamar, around SETX, and from other recent startup programs, they decided to build up the program fast and not take the slow approach. I think "young Christopher" is well aware of what South Alabama is doing, and the article is just contrasting the two approaches. Not sure what the big deal is.
The "SPIN" is TT trying to make something negative about LU. He does that every chance he gets. I can't understand his motivation to constantly make negative comments. Does anyone know if he had a prior unpleasant experience with Lamar that fuels his hatered? -
Not so many critics this week

The BOX SCORE??? Terror is an idiot for pointing out the box score. No one cares about that. The Cowboys look better in the box score every week yet they are 1-3. Terror is not an idiot, just obnoxiously arrogant and condenscending. He's like a little dog nipping at your heals, always looking for a dig to satisfy his unjustified ego. But he is no idiot. The point about the boxscore is yes we did the things we needed to do to win the game. Great! But we didn't dominate against a lower division team. Before you run with that as being negative, its not, just a fact. I'm ecstatic we won the game. -
boy does it ever. Coaches are dumb one week and smart the next. AMAZING!
Sleepy, we all know the competition was not nearly as good this week as last. But we are all enjoying the win. As our arch nemisis Texas Terror pointed out in a previous post, the box score did not reveal who the winner of the game was, and in fact tilted toward Langston. However, it was a fun and entertaining game and I think everyone is enjoying them, even the Sam game. I hope that people (especially me) who have concerns about where the team is right now will voice them in a positive manner (I know that impatience and frustration bleeds through sometimes). I think everyone knows this is the first year and realistically we are 2-3 years away from having a really competitive FCS team and probably have overachieved at that level already in the McNeese and SELA games. I think this Saturday's game will be a good barometer of where we are right now. -
**LU vs Langston Updates** LU WINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NorthoftheBorder replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Another note, Dr. Simmons obviously orchestrated a band renuion and a lot of them sat right by me and my son. They were absolutely a lot of fun and entertaining. They obviously were reliving their college days in the band. They made the game even more fun than it would have already been. This is a great example of why bringing back football is really a great thing for LU. -
Yea, I questioned the play calling there. But, hey we won and they are supposd to be better than Webber and we had trouble beating them. I'll take the W.
Trying to run Bevil on a QB sneak on a stacked Defense on the goal line is like trying to drive a finish nail into concrete with a tack hammer! Game was fun, we won, but yet if you have been a fan of football for a long time and played the game in HS then you probably know a little about the game. It doesn't make you a bad fan if you can see some glaring weaknesses and you talk about in a CIVIL and RESPECTFUL way on this forum. If you can't do that then this site needs to shut down. -
Yes and SFA barely beats McNeese 32-27 in the last minutes. I'm scraching my head over some of the scores from last night based on LU's performance against those teams.

For all LU to FBS supporters...
NorthoftheBorder replied to ispeakjive's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
From what I understand there are some really severe NCAA regs that almost assures that no will try to start a FBS confernce. It will have to come from an already existing confernce who has a core group of at least 6 members who have been FBS for some specified period. I know there are people who read this baord who know more about those rules but they negate taking a few schools from different conferences to form a new one. -

That kind of gives me a little tiny slight faint bit of unrealistic hope the Bears can hang with the mighty Jags for a quarter or so. ;) ;D
When does Subvarsity have any bearing on when the big boys are on the field on Friday night?
Whenever it proves your point! -
I don't see Ned's victory over PNG as evidence they are that good nor PNG's loss that they are that bad. This will be a very competitive district this year. Accross the board, I think the teams are really down (LCM is definately up) and don't expect much noise in the playoffs. One thing is for sure, you can always count on Soulja to root for a Raider defeat and pick against them. Guess he can't overcome his world view (nice word for what it really is). He is not alone in being upset that Lumberton has been much more competitive in the last few years and isn't an automatic W, in fact breaking bariers with wins against, Oh my God, teams they shouldn't have beat!
Worth mentioning that Lamar, UTSA are mentioned in the story... forgot to say that. Sorry folks! I bet if they are not now, they will be talking about and making the move very soon. Maybe we should sick Puddin on them to damper their spirit!
You may note who they hired as their AD recently... a gentleman who knows a thing or two about rising a proud athletic department with basketball success (saw ODU win their first round game this year) to the next level in football. That may tell you something... And no football school can play FBS in year two. Duh! ;)
I didn't read the article before posting, Duh! It is very good. I do not know who Wood Selig is, I'm sure you can enlighten me.
Spelling corrected in original post. Thanks for being kind! :) I read the McNeese fans site and they are pretty much against a move to FBS. But after reading with the Montana AD had to say about FCS economically I just don't know long term how Football plays out at that level economically, not that it isn't a struggle at the FBS level (had to get that in before Puddin did). When you see what Boise has done over the last 15 years, you see that it can be done. It will take money to do this. If Dr. Simmons can convince the Big donor/supporters that he has the right long term plan and they will step up with the needed funding, it can be done at LU. We will just have to see. One thing UNLV is right about, if LU isn't proactive then forces outside of their control can (maybe likely) will change the future of LU football and it probably wont be for the better. -

Toups Graphics FEARLES PREDICTIONS
The rankings are according to who is playing last, not according to who I think would beat each other. Right now I think BH will get 4th place and make the playoffs. I don't see Lumberton getting there, but in 20-4A who knows. Since BH will be playing in bidistrict and Lumberton won't BH is ranked higher. There will be 8 teams making the playoffs. In week 1 of the playoffs I don't see BH beating any of the other teams, that is why they are ranked 8th.
Ok so I understand your logic but then it really isn't a "power ranking", it is a playoff prediction, or its a power ranking among likely playoff teams. -

I love these rankings. Lumberton beats Barbers Hill pretty good but is rated behind them in the Toups rankings. Lumberton beats Silsbee @ Silsbee but is ranked behind them in the SETXSPORTS rankings. Head to Head means nothing. Makes logical sense to me ;) -
Lamar is going to rely heavily on ticket sales to support the football program so they need to do all they can do keep the stadium full. Season ticket sales are important because on bad weather days when there's a sparse crowd at least those seats have been paid for. I'm sure televising the games locally is very much about promoting football and Lamar doesn't make much from Fox 4, and any short term loss of ticket sales will be made up by getting people out to see future games.
Thats the thinking but I don't think it ever worked for the Basketball team. We all no that nothing works very well, except winning. That is the sure fire ticket sale promotion that always works (and the better the competition you can beat, the better the crowds). I'm sure Puddin would disagree with me though.
