Where is Coachacola
NorthoftheBorder replied to NorthoftheBorder's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
He is very knowledgeable and I miss his input. Start posting again Coachacola. The board is better when you contribute. -
Haven't seen a post in over 2 months from him. Is he still active on the board?

I think Tiger saw the future this weekend. When Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson can hit there drives off the tee consistently 350-375yds, I think we will have a changing of the guard in the near future. That doesn't say anything else about the other young guns like McIlroy, Kaymer, Barnes, Kim, etc who show a lot of potential will do in the future. What Mickelson and his contemporaries were not able to do, these young guys just might just knock him off of the top spot. Only time will tell.

What are the ticket office hours going to be during the next 3 weeks?

They started putting it up this morning.

There are 81 players currently on the roster. There are 18 players listed at some OL position but only 6 I think for the DL. Maybe someone knows more about this.

Lamar vs. McNeese St. Predictions?
NorthoftheBorder replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Does anyone know what kind of crowd the McNeese brass is expecting for the Lamar game? -
"He pushed me hard," Bertrand said. "He set the standard for PN-G running backs. I'm determined to keep that in my mind and to live up to that. That is a goal of mine. I want to do what he did." I thought PNG did a good job with conveying the tradition & history of the program. Harmon was a good back not doubt and I hope he does great a LU, but claiming he is the standard bearer with the Jeff "the Jet" Bergeron having been a HS All American is hard for me to see.

You have to believe that he will win tournaments again and a few more majors, but right now he is in a funk and you just don't know which direction he will go. My opinion is I don't think he will ever get back to the dominating place that he was, but what do I know.

Does anyone know if the locker rooms are ready for the team to start practice with in the Athletic Complex? What about the training rooms and weight lifting rooms? I know that people in the know are viewing this site.

I have been a big fan of Bob's column's for a long time but I have noticed that the last few years he manages to get in some political commentary in his Sunday articles. I really wish he would refrain from his political beliefs on the sports page. Since he and I seem to not see eye to eye, it really detracts from me reading his column. I think the editor would be more than happy to let him write a column on the editorial page if he is compelled to let everyone know how he feels. I don't think that in the "good old days" of a more fair and balanced media (20+ years ago or more) that sports editors would allow political commentary on the sports page.

Lamar football facing tough SLC teams early
NorthoftheBorder replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
From TT..... [shadow=red, left]FAU went 4-6 and 2-9 before making the playoffs in year three. Lost 40-7 in their opener of college football to Slippery Rock. It took several years before they were rolling, going 11-3 in year three. Of note, FIU who started a year later has not had a winning record. Comparisons can be made between Schnelly/Coker and Strock/Woodard. Strock and Woodard are eerily alike. Both had time in Arena and NFL Europe. Schnelly and Coker had a big year or few at The U. Interesting...[/shadow] Comparisons are easy to make and I agree that sometimes they prove out but then again sometime they don't. The Lamar faithful, although some would have liked a big name (big names have gone to new colleges before and not duplicated the success they had in previous jobs), I believe are very supportive and behind coach Woodard. They will give him a fair chance, and I believe are all very upbeat and positive about his chances to succeed in the long haul. Time will tell, but it always does in all matters of life. -

The bad teams get weeded out in the first round anyway and it makes potential for more big games
When teams that aren't even .500 for the season and have a losing district record, which will be a certainty under a 4 team plan, they do not deserve to go. There is a better way to weed bad teams out than by having them get their brains beat in during the first round...it is called not sending them in the first place.
Amen to that!

I think the large number of transfers could be for several reasons. 1) Lamar is ramping up their program a little faster and probably is playing a much tougher schedule earlier in the timeline and joining the SLC quicker. They will need some more experienced and developed players to compete 2) I buy the argument that I saw posted on the board earlier that Woodard also knows the JC ranks a little better right now so he has some inroads that he has taken advantage of. -
Good stuff, Matt. This is what our local 4A districts could look like: District 19-4A Jasper 770 Silsbee 853 Livingston 1148 Huffman 924 Cleveland 886 Splendora 910 District 20-4A Bmt. Ozen 1227 Barbers Hill 1181 LCM 1125 Lumberton 1063.5 PNG 1401 Vidor 1416
I like this. Looks like 2 really competitive districts with the opportunity to play each other in pre district and also 5-A teams.
Ray, no joke! :)
"Maybe that wasn't the smartest scheduling in the world," said Woodard, whose team will play an 11-game independent schedule before it becomes a football-playing Southland member in 2011.

We'll see how it plays out. Looks like Dan Rather State scheduling a lot of SLC schools was mistake as well.
