Drove by today but only saw it from MLK. Must be doing a lot of finish work inside the Athletic Complex. Hopefully it is coming along quickly. Can't wait for the finished product.

Like most of the last 25 recruiting classes, this one looks promising. We will just have to wait and see. I hope this one really is the real deal.

Tubbs steps down....Tidwell interim AD
NorthoftheBorder replied to HoopInsider_Cooper's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Not sure what the impact will be of Tubbs stepping down at this time with so much change on the horizon in college athletics. I know he is well know and respected and would carry a lot of weight. I think that him be a special assistant to Simmons will be a good thing. -
Hopefully we will make him regret his decision. It probably comes down to not wanting to be in his hometown. A lot of kids want to go off to school. Can't blame him if that is the case.
SFA is much more of a college town with a college atmosphere. The facilities are top notch, and there is no drop off in education. He is guarnteed wins there, not to mention they play A&M this year so he will get scouted even more. I know everyone wants him at Lamar, but as of now he made the right decision.
I dont think LU's facilities will take a back seat to anyone in the SLC with the stadium upgrades (with the exception of the Alamodome). Still hope to make him regret his decision, but have to wish him well on a personal level.

A&M football player transfers to LU after arrest
I'm for giving the young man a second chance but he would be walking a tight line and dismissed with one miss step. Otherwise, welcome to Lamar. He is also the second cousin of Longhorn legend Earl Campbell. [Hidden Content]
The more I read about Adren, the more I'm convinced this is a big pickup. Offers from OU, Okie light as well as TAMU says that he is a big time talnet. I agree that Dorsey must prove himself and keep his nose clean. I agree that Woodard had to take a chance on him. If we get Ben Wells also, then we have a the makings of real good defense in year 1. Who knows, we may end up with Ashton too down the road. Looks like some pretty good genes from old Floyd Sr. -
A&M football player transfers to LU after arrest
NorthoftheBorder replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Tough call. A&M did the right thing. It will take time to see if Lamr did the right thing. I'm for 2nd chances but Woodard will have to make sure that Dorsey and all his players toe the line on behavior. Of course if Switzer would have been the coach, then Dorsey would be the alter boy of the program. -

[Hidden Content]
It's called be jealous because LU is on its way up in football, basketball, Wbasketball, growth, money, research, and class while SHSU is going down. 2,000 at a home football game. SHSU might drop football.
Boy are we glad he is gone. Looks like a perfect match for him and Dan Rather State.

If he can play there he surely should have been a wunderkind at LU.

Provost Umphrey Stadium Renditions
NorthoftheBorder replied to GregTreml's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Coach Woodard is not a fan of the press box but they had to replace the old one with FEMA money. That's all they could do at the time. But they couldn't justify tearing down a brand new pressbox after designing the upgrades.
If the need to expand comes along, then they can justify either replacing it, or, I think there is enough room to put in a suite box with extra press facilities that is actually above the west stands and the existing press box. The room issue is how much support area do you have between the feeder road and the stadium for that type of structure. Would add volumes to an expanded stadium of 28-30k. -
Provost Umphrey Stadium Renditions
NorthoftheBorder replied to GregTreml's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Did some research on the WAC stadiums. They range in capacity from 18k to 50k with 30k being the median. An expanded Provost Umphrey to 28k would fit real nicely. If it can be squeezed to 30k, then it will be on par with WAC/Conf USA/Sun Belt type stadiums. Will definately need a upper level Press box/Suite faclility on the west side. Go Cards! -
Take out UH and New Mexico, add Tulsa and TSU, then you got it.
TSU being Texas Southern? Huh! Tulsa would be a good substitute for Ark State. UH would be really be nice for the success of the new conference. -

New 2010 BISD Stadium Schedule
NorthoftheBorder replied to BearWolf's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
No Lamar home game on the 18th. Going to try to make this one. Should be capacity crowd of 11k without a doubt. -
I've been following the Cards since Tubbs first year in his 1st stint. I've seen recruiting classes come and go and I dont remember near the hoopla over the class that included Davis and Oliver and that was best class ever. Since Abatemarco, we have been given a lot of fanfare over recruiting classes without much production on the court. We are way beyond the "little boy who cried wolf" days with recruiting classes. It always sounds great, gets the fans hopes up, and then we go through a 14-16 season with lots of ups and downs and missed opportunities. I want the basketball program to succeed in a fantastic way, but after over 20 years of mediocrity, I am excited about football coming back and ready for a new program to put hope in. Here's hoping that Roc turns it around with this recruiting class, but I'll wait to see if it pans out. No wild predictions here about next season.

I thought I saw a awhile back that is was going to be about 60k. That would position them really nicely.
50 to 60K?? No way! Where did you hear that? All $78,000,000 will buy you nowadays is a very nice, upscale 32,000 seat venue, designed for expansion seating as the need and funds become available. 32K is just right for UNT. TCU's Amon Carter stadium seats 40K+ and even with their success the past 10 years they still only draw in the mid-30's for a high profile game.
Don't remember. I want to think I saw something on the Mean Green sight a year or so ago. No matter, if Provost Umphrey can be expanded to 28k that fits in nicely with your new stadium especially if that includes a nice press box with more suites on the West side. -
