Blog: Lamar to New Texas League in 2020
NorthoftheBorder replied to TexasTerror's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Another one...from the Report SBC – North Appalachian State Arkansas State Kennesaw State Middle Tennessee UNC Charlotte Western Kentucky SBC South Nova Southeastern Georgia Southern Lamar Louisiana – Lafayette South Alabama Troy
That would be a hell of a conference for football and basketball, but also an enormous amount of travel. I don't know when the new SWC would come into affect, but Lamar would be better served if they could position themselves for that conference. -
The old stadium seated 17,500 per all the info that was put out in years past. Why the drop of 1,500? Only explanation is that the chairback section is expanded to the point that it eliminated that many but that sounds way to high. 16,000 will not get any CUSA schools to come play. Maybe a Sun Belt school will come. I hope they expand it after the second season. Haven't got my tickets yet but I am in.

I would think that 35k would include a bowl on the south end. I talked with someone Saturday night who said that Mainord was taking 2 of our commits to Texas Tech with him. What a guy!
Do you know which two commits that was?
No I don't. Was hoping someone on this board could verify if this was true and who they were.

LU football adds to roster, gets gift from Conn's
Not since the days of PATITAN has anyone inflamed me more than TT. But on this one, I agree with him. It is inexcusable for our Athletic Promotion and Sports Information to not be consistently out front with informationa and promotion. We are working off the premise "build it and they will come". I think they could do a whole lot to generate excitement within the local community and the Alumni community that would pay dividends to the program in the long haul. A lot of fan support and enthusiasm will elevate the new football program above what it would be otherwise. Just my 2 cents. dang, did I really just agree with TT?
Here's an example. I saw on the Athletic web site a solicitation for a Scoreboard sponsor. That is something we should be knocking on doors for with a slick powerpoint presentation with a mock up of the board with each perspective donors name and advertising that we make a presentation too so they can feel and see what it would do for the university, the football program and for their company. Maybe they are doing this, but we would never know based on everything else. -

Are they not part of the renovations?
There will be 6 suites I hear, not exactly sure where they are located.
Looking at the seating chart, the pressbox will stretch between the 15 yard lines instead of the 30 yard lines today. The suites will probably go there. Other changes I noticed is the chair back seats will be between the 25 yard lines instead of the 35 yard lines. It also looks like the exit ramps will be moved from the 25 and 10 yard lines to the 15 and the back of the end zones, respectively. What's interesting is that it looks like they are expanding the stands but reducing capacity by a few thousand. That make me believe they are spending the money to make the stadium a first class facility instead of just shoving more seats in. As Dr. Simmons has said, the stadium is being designed to be easily expandable to 36K. Hopefully upgrading the parking lot by the Montagne Center will be included in this to make it more tailgating friendly. Maybe they'll add landscaping by the tracks.
I dont see how they are reducing the capacity if they are adding on to all 4 sides unless they expand the chairbacks section and that reduces it a great deal. -

Good to finally see something in print about the stadium even if it is an elementary drawing. I was dreaming more and if they did all the things in my previous post, they could add some serious luxury boxes on the south endzone above the bowl seating and maybe some more on the east side above where they extended the seating higher up and then put in a really nice press box on the west side. Real cozy stadium at 40k+ that could bring in CUSA, WAC, and second tier BCS conference schools. -

Not sure what may end up there. [Hidden Content]
That's an interesting seating chart because the current stands stop at the goal lines and that seating chart has the stands extending past the end of the end zones. It looks like they are expanding the seating capacity of the stadium if that seating chart is correct.
I see what you are saying. Maybe they are adding permanent seating. This could push the capacity to 20K. The s101 and 102 is going to be burm seating on the grass. But they can bowl that and probably add 8-10k in seating and push it to 28-30k. If they come around with a very low bowl seating in the north end zone, they maybe they get another 2k. They could also alway go up higher with the two side sections and probably add another 10k + and maybe wind up with a 40k stadium in the end. That could one day get some really decent big name home opponents. Just dreaming. -

With all that said, I think the majority of the COACHES and their staffs are doing a GREAT job for Lamar and have done amazing jobs over the last several years of building up their programs. It’s a lot of work to be successful while you are being handcuffed by your administration the way they are at LU.
I think it comes down to money. I think Roc was hired because they didn't have the money to attract a top assistant or head coach from another school. UTSA is paying Larry Coker $200K while LU is paying Woodard $130K, that's probably why LU didn't go after Coker.
Well I hope it is the besty $130k they ever spent. In the meantime, I would love to see some artistic concept drawings of the stadium. -
Berm seating?? There's always been "Berm Seating". That's just the hills in either endzone. Good lord I hope they are not trying to sell us all on "Berm Seating" as a draw. Sitting on the hill is nice for a kid, but it really shouldn't be considered in as a capacity figure!
totally agree. Berm seating is sitting on the hill and that is why we are not getting any info on the stadium. Hopefully they have a master plan to expand the stadium seating for the future. I wish they would release that info so we can get excited about it. -

Fighting chumps in back yards made Kimbo look better than he was. Fighting trained fighters is whole different ballgame. That said, it was apparent that supermouth Houston Alexander really didn't want any part of Kimbo. I agree, there is absolutely no big future for any of these guys.
I sense low interest in Lamar athletics as of late. Hopefully everyone is laying low for football.
I think you are right. The basketball team has not given us anything to be excited about. And the university just refuses to give us much info on the football plans including what the stadium will look like when finished. I think this is bad PR and they are not doing anything to generate excitement. It may be that, with the exception of turf and a new field house, there is really not much improvement to the stadium as it exists and they don't want to play that card yet. -

Look for SHSU to find a middle ground between a well-known coach (Larry Coker, UTSA) and someone who was not on many's radar at the Div I level prior to his hire (Ray Woodard). Probably an FBS assistant coach or a seasoned veteran of HS or FCS.
I thought I was the most sarcastic b*st*rd I knew until I started reading your posts. You win that title hands down. Lake Travis High School Football Facilities
NorthoftheBorder replied to Javelina's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Its a great recruiting tool. In team sports, if you do things right, you can win. It doesn't take this good of a facility to get it done. Newton being a good example in our own back yard. But make no mistake, poeple want to be associated with winners so people with means will move there kids to a program like LT or Southlake so they can have that championship experience. -
Is there anyway the moderators of this board could start a thread that would allow schools/parents/friends to post where and how local kids are doing on the next level? Seems lke once they leave they are forgotten. I know it will be difficult but sure would be nice to figure out a way to follow these young men after they leave they area. Example, after Jaquezz Rodgers single handly whipped us back in 07 and I learned he was going to Oregon State I always try and watch when they are on TV. There have been countless young men from our area play in big bowl games and you hear there name called and where they are from and it's like dang I didn't realize he went there! Just and idea!
What happened to the big back on that '07 PNG team? -
The higher the number the better. PNG is rated 1st in Region 3, 6th in 4A, 160 in the Midwest and 690 Nationally based on their rating system. -

TOUPS GRAPHICS FEARLESS PREDICTIONS!
NorthoftheBorder replied to PURPLE 4EVER's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
You have fallen prey to the typical media mentality, the team you like gets "throttled" (your words) by Crosby, but you still rank them higher because that is how you believe it should be, not what the evidence shows. Of course if Dayton was 0-10 you would still have them #1 in you power rankings. I know, for a brief week or 2 you had Crosby ahead of Dayton. Like the Zin Master said, "we will see". -
TT really rubs me the wrong way, but I want him to know that I send my prayers and condolences to him and his family.
