I am not from Beaumont, but I will say this, if Beaumont ever had a team that competed on the big stage and had long term success, I believe the whole area and as well as Beaumont would would support the program in a huge way. The only way Beaumont will have a program in any sport that would compete on the national stage with a big fan base would be Lamar football or basketball. Obviously, pro sports is not an option. That said, changing the subject back to today's article, I hope that Jimmy Simmons is working on a succession plan for the next 5 years. We need someone who has the vision and fire to keep up the momentum that he has established. He has without a doubt been the best thing to happen to Lamar in my lifetime.

1979 NCAA Division IA Football Power Ratings

In the last 5 years...? Most certainly not. And to think so, is a laugh! Kittykat, talking about the whole body of work. And everything is cyclical, the tide is turning. Sort of like the Galveston hurricane of 1900, the great storm is off the "Dan Rather State" coast and no one knows its coming in until it's too late. -

1979 NCAA Division IA Football Power Ratings

Probably no Lamar either. Considering you guys were the bottom feeders and the league would have wanted to move to a higher level, it would have been the TAAC, American South or Gulf Star for Lamar! Look kittykat, Lamar's athletic program as a whole has outperformed Dan Rather State by a margin so wide your thimble brain couldn't begin to comprehend. Its best if you just hide out on campus in nowheresville. -
Does anyone have any reliable info on when they might start the renovations and what the final plan is?

Everything is cyclical. I think it is great that the area has had a good run in basketball titles of late. I personally think that Lamar bringing football back is going to have a positive impact on the success of local HS football. In fact, Lamars success in the late 70's and early 80's could have had a positive impact on local basketball. Regardless, and I was a basketball guy myself in HS, football is still the most popular sport in Texas and the USA from junior high all the way to the pros.

SHSU Announces 2010 Schedule (Lamar Date Set)

Am I reading this right? You guys play SFA twice? -
Showoff.... > The suites and club house could be added to the remaining money to build a combo suites and bowl seating...maybe. :D I'm not showing off, just trying to figure out what they have planned based on what they've said in the past. I do think it's telling that Dr. Simmons brought up the fact that the stadium can be expanded to 36,000 easily, so I'm thinking this is only Phase 1. They are meeting with the architects today so maybe they'll finally release more detailed drawings soon. I am ready for the details to be released. If anyone in the know can post something from the architects meeting that would be awesome. I do see UNLV's point about the math. Looks like in a matter of about 2 years we will go from no turf fields in the area to 4 assuming that Nederland will turf soon (those guys gotta keep up with PNG you know). This should get some good high school playoff games in the area instead of having to travel to Houston. Make those Houston teams come here baby! I think that Lamar bringing football back is going to have a big impact on local high school football.

Lamar ranked highest slc team

That should reverse soon. -
Yes there is enough room to expand eventually. I'd say make it a bowl first, then maybe a second deck later if needed. Single deck bowl would get it to roughly 26K (6K on the Montagne side and 2K on the field house side if you keep the filed house visible). Also, that TSU plan would be a perfect venue for HS State Title Day! Central location and 40-45K seats. I'm thinking that you get 8k on the south side bowl and 2k on the north (Montagne) side which would get 27.5k. Add a 6.5k upper decks on each side and suites accross the south side lower deck and and you have a 40.5k stadium. That should be a big enough stadium to bring in UH/TCU/Baylor/K State/Iowa State/Ole Miss (maybe TAMU if they stay down) type programs. This would max out the location and is also dependant on how they locate the field house on the south side. IF we want a bigger venue, we would have to relocate the stadium.

Somebody in the know please post a quick bio on each including position, height, weight, where they are from and HS/JC.

This kid might be a steal. -
I don't know much about all the teams, but looking at the records both Dayton and Lumberton have the best record in this region. Could all of planet Dayton get their wish and meet the mighty L-Train in the Regional final? Lumberton's path looks like Crosby, Brenham, and El Campo. I'll let Purple 4 Ever pick Dayton's path.

I think Cleveland is way overrated. -
I hope there is something that I don't know about or see in this roster. Could be a so so year. Maybe some of you guru's can enlighten me about this group other than the few proven kids back from last year.

my opinion on Cardinal stadium.
NorthoftheBorder replied to UNLV's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Only big dreamers make big things happen. Now we just need Simmons and Tubbs to dream big about Cardinal Stadium. -
So Ray Woodard is the guy who is going to resurrect the program and bring it to heights never before achieved or dreamed about for LU Football.

Schnellenberger, FAU give Tubbs, LU strong model
NorthoftheBorder replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The most important think I am reading in the article is the coach. The absolute will to win, not deterred by the obstacles in his path ie...lack of stadium, money or other infrastructure. Able to sell recruits on himself , the program as well as the school. Kind of reminds me of Billy Tubbs back in 1976. Just think of where we would have been had we had leadership we have now with the foresight similar to what FAU has. I say it is all in the hire of the coach. The facilities will come. Make the right hire with the right long term compensation package and everyhting else will fall into place. -
Lets talk construction plans..
NorthoftheBorder replied to UNLV's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I believe horshoeing the south end zone would get you to about 25-27k seating. So, it you added second decks on both sides, say 7500 each then you could get to 40-42k. It would take the exterior to the feeder road on the west side. -

So is there any seating expansion in this current plan? Or future expansion plans? I think it is possible to get to 40k+ in seating at the current site. -

What? We have a long ways to go if this is all we got so far. A few good names but I suspect that like the Franchione sighting, there is a lot going on in the background we don't know about unless ABTR want to be forthcoming.
