Bet Jasper's not happy with their new district! Just heard WOS' pre-district schedule is Nederland, LCM, K'ville, Jasper and Brookshire Royal. Heard several teams they asked said Hell no!!!
-
Thanks, Coop. The head baseball coach and his assistant (and brother) are graduates of WOS.

Was glancing through this post and thought I would input my two cents. UIL rules (as far as sitting out one year) pertain to VARSITY players moving rom one school distrct to the next. A student CANNOT move for athletic purposes, whether he moves out of the district or not. If he has announced he is moving for athletic purposes, then he can be disqualified, if someone protests it, and if people will speak up and say they heard he was moving for athleic reasons and/or if the coach from the school from which is moving does NOT sign the waiver. If he has NEVER played varsity before, there is a 15 day rule (something like that), where he cannot play in a varsity game for 15 days. If a student lives in one district but moves to another, he can continue to attend the same school he has been attending as long as he never checks out of school. We are in a town where changing schools has been prominent. Kids move back and forth for one reason or another. Heard one coach say, though, that most kids who do that are usually running FROM something, not running TO something better. My last thought on this (actually it was my first thought) was to chuckle at the kid being upset that he is being moved from RB to LB. At WOS, the kids WANT to play defense. That ol' chain gang just means something to the WOS players. They LOVE it! P.S. the Jamaal Charles statement....tell that to Kevin Smith, who had major success at A&M and Dallas. He was a WR and CB at WOS. His playing defense didn't seem to hurt his career, did it? And last, but not least, I believe there are 11 players on both sides of the ball on the field at all times. I'm pretty sure that the colleges and pros recruit defensive players, too. If a guy is good enough, he is going to get a look....no doubt about it. It's just kind of humorous that people think someone has to be a QB or RB to get a scholarship. It's called TEAMWORK, plain and simple. If the coach thinks he's a better fit at LB, then he needs to learn that position and be the best LB he can be. It may help him be a better running back, should he ever be called upon. Look at Paul Thomas ('00 team). He was RB and LB......and one tough player. His first position on the team, though, was LB. He went to college on a scholarship as LB.

Hooks Wants One More Ring Before He Quits

I hope he is able to get it. I would love for ALL Mustang fans to one another state title!!!! -
My question is, why are you bringing other coaches into your "quest"? THAT is wrong and appears to be just jealousy of some sort because it is totally unsubstantiated and uncalled for.
-
I heard this AM that Tim Matherne made ALL-STATE?! Does anybody have that article? I tried to find it on-line with no luck. Congrats to Tim and the honorable mentions from WOS and all over the state!!! It has been a pleasure to watch you perform!!! Looking forward to watching you on Saturdays!!

He has never been fired from anything. You need to shut up and move on down the road, JACK!
-
That WHO got fired?
-
FYI - Cornel is a student of the game. He learns from a lot of coaches, ball games, etc. For you to blatantly say that he has learned EVERYTHING from Coach Hooks is a falsehood. And unless you know the reasons he left and then came back (in a personal way), don't judge. It is not your place. Thank you for your consideration....

I must confess that I apparently spoke too soon regarding our preseason games. Doesn't look like Sulphur is going to pan out. Could be Ned and/or PNG, LCM. I was under the impression it was set and it wasn't. I apologize for misleading anyone.....

My parents are both in their 70's and they still pay property taxes....county, school, drainage district, etc. I don't know where or why it started that people on a fixed income and/or retired or over a certain age don't pay property taxes. My parents just paid their tax bill...over 3000.00. Ridiculous!

La Vega vs. China Spring/CHINA SPRINGS WIN

Quote:" I wonder why Toby left to be a receivers coach at another school when he was the receivers coach here. It is ironic he left when the superstars left. Bet he did not think they could do as well as they did either. " Toby left because Lee paid more money than WOS. -
I heard the preseason schedule was Nederland, LCM and Sulphur.

La Vega 20 WO-S 12 Final/Comments

I'm very proud of what the Mustangs accomplished this year. I think we have a great bunch of kids and I am looking forward to watching some of those seniors play on Saturday in the coming years. -
Dayton is not in Beaumont, so why should the Enterprise cover them, really? I don't understand the lack of coverage of West Brook and I understand that gripe, but to cover Dayton? I'm not taking anything away from Dayton but you guys have your own home town newspaper. Just win it all and then you should get plenty of coverage. No need to get so upset over lack of coverage in the newspaper. The best thing you folks can do is to win and show them all. Just my opinion, not trying to diss anyone or stir the pot, just think the complaint about lack of coverage in someone else's newspaper is uncalled for.

Texasfootball 3A Picks/They Pick La Vega/Kirbyviile

They picked K'ville to win our district, too, didn't they? 'Nuff said. -
Coaching search nears finish line/LOCALS APPLY
stangchain replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The shame of it is that they are making their decision on a coach BEFORE the season is over with for 2007. What if a coach who wins the state championship this years wants to apply? (Or an assistant/coordinator on a state championship team) I didn't think schools did this (unless, of course, they already had their minds made up, in which they should have never put it out there in the first place). Just my opinion. -
