  1. Lots of mistakes for Huffman to clean up. They had a 1st and 10 inside the 25 (I think, maybe 20) in the 4th quarter and had 2 penalties back them up to the 40. Had to punt. LCM went down the field helped by back to back unsportsmanlike penalties. Plus a couple others. It was painful to watch. this was a close ball game until that point. Those aren’t football mistakes. Mental mistakes. I know they had a bad week at practice. Things not clicking. Unfocused. It could be an eye opener. These teams aren’t going to hand you a win. Tighten up and focus. But, give LCM their due…good teams force their opponents to make mistakes. That is a physical football team that went up early, lost the lead, fought back to take the lead, and held off a good HH offense. But that’s ok, Huffman has Lumberton next week. And I’m sure they will be licking their wounds from that stomping Livingston gave them tonight….let me go see what that score was again ….crap.
  2. Lcm converts big 3rd and 8. Ball on 18 LCM with a great run to the 4. Thought it was a TD. He stepped out of bounds.
  3. HH tried to convert a 4th and 4 on their own 39. Didn’t make it. LCM ball. 6:26 in the 3rd
  4. LCM threw another deep interception but offsides penalty wiped it.
  5. Ok. Halftime. I mentioned it earlier. LCM can run the ball and connect on the short game. They have not shown this year that they can throw deep. The QB had a great pass early on a busted coverage but it’s the same ball. High rainbow. This secondary is going to pick that. Not sure why they aren’t playing that screen game a little more. Huffman looked like a team coming off a bye week. Little rusty but LCM woke them up. Lot of game to play.
  6. 23 secs left in the first half. HH has a 3rd and 2 on LCM 11. #7 runs it for a TD
  7. Defense held LCM forced to punt. HH takes over on their own 30. 2:32 left.
  8. So far, HH started slow but got it going. Defense is started to stiffen. QB for LCM is making good decisions. Good game.
  9. As do I. For sure. You can see my post above. The team has had some injury issues this year. The fact they have been able to be as productive is pretty impressive. LCM is a good test. The last couple games against LCM, it always seemed they had the talent to win. Just couldn't get over the hump. I don't know who the past coach was but the new coach must be doing a great job. Most teams with a new coach (even an experienced one) take a step back in year 1.
  10. Well, @Falcons2026 made me rethink this a little. I wasn't considering some injuries that occurred very early in the season. Counting some kids that haven't played yet due to injuries before the season and some that happened early in the year and may not be returning this season, its more than 2-3. Nobody wants to post kids names or specifics when there is an injury because its a kid, we don't know all the details...just feels crass. I don't think it is 11 starters that are injured and will not play...but as you see, sometimes my keyboard moves faster than the speed of thought.
  11. Uh…that’s not true. I think they will be back to full strength this week. It was only ever 2-3 kids injured at the most.
  12. I’m biased. I’m trying hard not to be. Last years HH offense was not as productive as this years. The starting center was out and the backup was a senior that was undersized but did a good job. The defense went after him (as they should) and made it tough. Some healing after the bye week will help but if the offense can do what they do, they can score enough to win. The Huffman defense will need to tackle well. The LCM offense has playmakers in the run and short pass game that get yards. HH has the defensive speed and they are rarely out of position. The long game is just not there for LCM but the secondary for HH is playing lights out so that may not matter. If both teams play to their strengths, this game favors HH. I like both head coaches so I would be willing to bet they both might have a couple tricks up their sleeves. updating my worthless score prediction. 28-20 Huffman. if the weather is rainy, it’s a toss up in my opinion.
  13. I’ve only watched the one game against LCM. But, I’ve seen teams that collapse against equal competition but will dominate even slightly lesser opponents. Performance is not linear. It’s hard to explain (for me at least) without drawing a graph. Like the concept of momentum in a game. A d-line gets a pressure, then a great tackle for loss, maybe a sack. And suddenly they look unstoppable. Like sharks smelling blood in the water. what changed? That’s the same line that was average the previous quarter. It also works the other way when the offense gets big plays in a row. You see the defense kinda accept their fate and wither. Young teams tend to do this regardless of their ability. It shows up first as mental mistakes as they try to out-effort the other guy. Then suddenly, a contagious fatigue spreads through the whole team. Its a 3rd quarter phenomenon. It’s not intentional, a normal human reaction really. Mature teams are not as susceptible.
  14. I think LCM will beat Jasper by more than 7. Closer to 14. If I am wrong....please see my other post about opinions.
  15. All opinions are adjustable depending on the availability of new information and the size of that dude at the other end of the bar.
  16. Slow day at the office...might just type up a long post... Huffman V. La Marque La Marque - This years La Marque team was way better than last year. They played very physical but mistakes and tempo did them in. Punt coverage gave Huffman a short field twice and the Huffman D-Line isn't big but fast. It was disruptive. Huffman - Huffman knows they don't have big lineman. On both sides of the ball. Wisely, they don't try to play big. Speed, technique, and scheme has been the focus. The O-Line for the La Marque game included a couple backups, a JV player that got promoted, and a player moved to guard from tackle. This was not their best performance by far but they know what they got. Injuries have been brutal (always the case) but the bye week was right on time. Expect some to be back fully and some may be on a "pitch count" for LCM. LCM and Huffman comparison data I like to run numbers, in a limited fashion, on teams to try and figure out how good (or bad) they really are. Its kinda silly to compare individual games, even against the same opponent and then draw out a conclusion from that. Too many moving parts. So, what numbers matter? I lean towards: Quality of opponent (I like MaxPreps Texas rankings for this number. No opinions, only data). PA/PF Quality of opponent - LCM has played a tougher schedule. Opponents on average are about 25% better ranked than HH opponents. WOS was the best opponent by far and that was reflected in the score. If you remove the WOS game (not counting Woodville non-game of course) the opponent ranking is pretty even with Huffman, if not slightly better. By the numbers, the Quality of Opponent for LCM and Huffman match up pretty close. If they were wildly different, that could be factored in. At this point, its a wash....Unless something weird happens at Jasper. PA/PF - LCM has allowed almost double the points than HH. Remove the WOS game you would need to pull the Navasota game for HH to try (gets silly here) and do an even comparison. Numbers stay the same. Huffman defense allows fewer points than LCM against comparable opponents. If you would like to flatten the data a bit, take the Points Scored / Points Allowed and you get 1.98 for LCM. They outscore their opponents at that rate. Huffman factor is 6.3. That is a big difference. Do I think Huffman is 3 times better than LCM...absolutely not. But if you are trying to forecast, its a big difference. Matchups Before you say it, I know "thats why they play the game". This is all just tomfoolery and speculation. It is certainly decided on the grass on Friday nights. But I do like poring over this stuff. LCM Off / HH Def - LCM run game has an impressive threat with #7. He is quick and has good vision. A big factor for his success is #9 running ability also. He reads the option pretty consistently. He has to be taken into account. The O-Line moves the line of scrimmage well and creates big lanes. HH D-Line is fast and sets up blitzes from different LBs and OLBs. The LCM QB does tend to bail on the pocket quick but it doesn't look like LCM picks up blitzes as well. LCM passing game is built off their run game. Short throws with a couple crossing routes. They have a couple players that are getting good YAC. LCM rarely throws deep and when they do, its not very successful. The run defense for HH is better than I expected so far but this will be the best rushing attack they have seen. They will get to the ball carrier faster than most teams LCM has seen this year but #7 runs through poor tackling. He will be productive but if the HH defense plays as fast as they have been, they could force LCM to throw the ball a bit more. If that is the case, HH should match up well with the quick pass game and dominate the deep threat. If both teams play to their strengths, this should be an even match. HH Off / LCM Def - As goes #7 for HH, so goes the offense. He is far from the only athlete on this offense but he is a great athlete in a great position. His ability to turn bad situations into gains has been nice to see. While Huffman doesn't have a running back as productive as LCM, they do have some depth and options. The O-line has been bitten by the injury bug but it is expected to heal up before the game. The line plays fast and is better from a technique perspective than last year. They do an excellent job of picking up the blitz. Pass protection is better than expected. That could also be due to the receiver corps. They average 15 yards per completion with quite a few deep balls. They are fast, and get great looks on intermediate routes. Once the deep threat is established, the intermediate routes have opened up very well. The Huffman passing game is probably the biggest advantage I see for the matchups. Be consistent on the ground, pass to move the ball and score quick. Prediction I think predictions are kinda dumb because so many things happen. Officiating, injuries, weirdos rushing the field (looking at you Bridge City). But, if it plays out according to what I see... Huffman 32 LCM 20 If I am not factoring something in, by all means let me know.
  17. Huffman has had good success on intermediate passes. LM is defending the deep ball and the run well.
  18. Lots of passes floating for both teams. Not crazy windy here in the stands but it’s weird wind down there.
  19. Huffman looked unfocused. Homecoming week, day off with Nicholas, just one distraction after another. The good news is, with all that distraction, they still put up a dominant performance. #3 for Navasota is a stud. Kid can break tackles and stay on his feet after contact. He took some licks and just kept going.
