I am probably reading too much into a friendly jab at Crosby but..... My oldest was in the same grade and played with Casey before high school. We got to know his family a little bit. As awesome as Casey is, I can assure you that football wasn't the reason they moved. Mrs. Collier took a job there (she is an amazing teacher and BH is blessed to have her.) Sometimes we get this "Football" bubble around us. We think that every decision these families make revolves around what is best for "Football". Or basketball for that matter, Casey's sister Charli is a top 5 WNBA draft pick. Some say #1. There is almost always a bigger factor involved. Millions of people relocate every year. We just notice when a member of the family is also a good football player. People change jobs. Family members pass away. Babies are born and they need a bigger house (done that). Do some people move their kids for "Football" reasons? I am sure there are a few. In this instance, I think this family has their eyes on the bigger picture than sports.

Wait...What years for the Sheldon Oilers? I played 2 years at Sheldon little league, graduated a year behind Garrett from King. My family wasn't that big into sports so I have zero pictures. I just remember we had a stud player named Dallas that was head and shoulders above everybody else. I was a lineman. Let me see what years. (I haven't thought about those teams in forever).

COVID issues. I think the regular starter was negative but he had contact tracing issues. Rumors are swirling but the administration and the nurses working at the schools are required by law to not share identity information. But most counties require the districts to report cases. So only half the information actually gets out to the public. And that is worse than zero information.

Cheering for Livingston! Really want to see that group of kids succeed.

Palestine thought they could come in and play the bully and Huffman would just roll over and take it. The Falcons were smaller across the O and D line. Every position. By a lot. Didn’t matter. Been that way all year, every game. Once they realized Huffman wasn’t going to roll over it was too late. They looked gassed and frustrated at the end of the first half. That’s when the penalties started. Frustration set in, some holding calls where a Palestine O-lineman would lay on top of a Huffman player that he outweighs by 80-100 lbs. Good job, I guess? 2nd half started and Palestine would move the ball pretty well for a couple plays and then the Huffman defense would shut them down or a penalty would back them up too far to overcome. I don’t understand the decision on the field goal with 3 minutes left in the 3rd. This was a field position game and Palestine could get yards. Just felt too conservative but I am biased. Once the 4th quarter started, the difference in body language was stark. Palestine looked frustrated and tired. Huffman seemed to pick up the pace and scored with 3:00 left in the game. The Palestine players looked like they were chirping at each other but in the fourth, they were definitely pointing fingers and getting mad at each other. But...Huffman had been kicking it (frustratingly) short to the same guy. And with 3:00 left in the game, he returned the KO to the Huffman 30 to give a little spark. Palestine picked up a first down fairly quickly and was running out of bounds to stop the clock. Then, they take a shot (a little prematurely but hindsight is 20/20) and the QB heaves it to the corner into triple coverage. Interception by Huffman. Nothing left but the victory formation. 2 unsportsmanlike penalties, 3 holding calls that were meaningless antics, players openly griping and arguing with each other on the field, and a team that looked shell shocked even though they were leading... You may disagree...this loss is all on the Palestine coaches. Palestine was unprepared to play football this week. That’s the coaches responsibility. Huffman is playing better since the Vidor game. Vidor was a win but it didn’t feel like one. (Vidor fan knows what I’m talking about). Livingston was a loss but Huffman played a little better. Just not better than a good Livingston squad. This week saw a little better execution and consistency than last week. Now, they get to play another week. Brazosport or Wheatley. Huffman will be prepared.

My pleasure. Great game to travel for also.

Looking forward to seeing this game. First non-Huffman game I have seen in person this year. Tickets for sale at the gate? Anybody know?

Texan Live shows the Huffman/Palestine game at 7. As does UIL bracket on their website. I keep seeing messages from Huffman that it is 7:30 -
And...Huffman lost so I am not too happy, but the officiating was consistent in this game. There was a pass interference that Livingston might disagree with but after seeing it on film, it was a good call. Refs didn’t help Livingston. Livingston earned this win.

Great game. Even though Huffman lost. Just a great game. turnovers and penalties. Huffman has missed the turnover and penalty bug all year. Caught up to them tonight. Good teams will do that to ya. Congrats Livingston!!

Most teams I have seen with big 3rd/4th quarter leads are playing to get off the field without injuries. I have never coached above little league but it seems a lot of playoff bound HS coaches are also trying to keep some aces in their hands. That seems to be a double edged sword though. That sweet play with 2 tight ends will always look good in practice. Then a team tries to run it under stress/fatigue in the playoffs and gets an unexpected response from the defense. Would showing it on film, and making that opponent prepare for it be the other side of the coin? -
I didn't feel like I was implying the whole "group hug" narrative. I think we are aligned in regards to the statement "whether paid or volunteer, if you commit to a job, you should be held accountable to your performance." Two things can be true: It is a difficult job that is not paid at a high rate. The job comes with making decisions at speed on actions that (most times) do not leave evidence to support those decisions. There will be abuse and criticism from people who have never done it, and most times, do not have the same perspective or expertise. Bad officials should be held accountable and the difficulty of the task shouldn't insulate the individual from accountability. This seems like one of the most obvious examples of a principle well researched in management and leadership. The "Peter Principle", defined as "people in a hierarchy tend to rise to the level of their incompetence."

Not sure. I can ask a chapter president that I know. I never thought to ask.

I thought each staff submitted a review for the officials after the game? I think there is a feedback process.

it's hard to see from this distance. I played the clip over and over and the only thing I can see that would have made me throw the flag was HH#7 puts his left arm up and 23 has his hand inside under his pads and arm pit. 7 looks to pull away and maybe he had a handful of jersey? When the ball carrier comes underneath, 23 had his arm on the outside of 7s right arm and that is what I think the ref saw. Ref was probably watching the ball and switched his vision to the block and saw the blocking player with an arm outside #7 shoulders. If the flag wouldn't have been thrown, I don't think anybody could say he was holding from this film. I couldn't see it from the stands because the sideline blocked my view. This is not an obvious holding from what I see and, more importantly in my opinion, is not consistent with the calls they were making in this game. I volunteered to officiate a day of scrimmages years ago. Just me, one "official". I told the coaches "Nobody is paying me to do this, its a scrimmage. If I make a call you disagree with, just roll with me. I'm not trying to be unfair." The only call that I got yelled at was a fumble. The offense claims the kids knee was down and the defense disagreed. I called it a fumble and reminded the HC's "Its a scrimmage, I'm not a pro." After that 8 hour day of officiating, I had a new found respect for the officials. That is a tough job that I never want to do again. I forget that sometimes in the stands but I try.

I just watched the PI play again. I’m biased..but the defender looked like he had his back to the ball, running with the receiver and jumped to play the ball. I don’t see him push the receiver or grab his jersey. I am not so biased to see...that looks like a bad PI call.
-
I thought it was iffy but it was no different than the coverage the whole game. It’s inconsistent. That’s the issue I see. If they call it loose or tight, I can live with it. Just be consistent.

I had two Huffman O-lineman tell me after the game, “Best D-line they faced this year. By far”. they faced a D-1 senior NT at Needville and the NT for Splendora is highly recruited at center but he’s a monster on the D-line too.

Some coaches can squeeze the most out of the middle of the road players. Some coaches can make good players look like superstars. The previous coach at Crosby seemed to always get more out of less. This new coach seems to be able to do the same. BH doesn’t have the horses this year. And the coach doesn’t know what to do with ponies.
