This podcast [Hidden Content] Speaks to how we respond to risk. Its pretty short. 24 minutes. Two case studies: Fukushima - An older couple was evacuated from the Fukashima reactor incident. They weren't super close but within an evacuation zone. The risks of radiation exposure were elevated within their zone but not incredibly high. They used the "better safe than sorry" card. They relocated to Hong Kong, burned through their savings, too old to be competitive in the job market, too poor to just retire. They were allowed to go back home for one day and night. Once home, the wife refused to leave and the husband found her dead of a suicide the next morning. This kind of story became common for people from that area. The data suggests that the deaths from suicide, poverty, and stress were significantly higher than the deaths that could be attributed to any radiation exposure within the zone. Actions taken to protect people were actually causing greater harm. Hatfield Rail Crash - A broken rail caused a high speed train to crash, killing 4 people and injuring more than 70. The response was to cut the speeds while inspecting all the rail. This caused the train volume to fall by half. Most of these people that left the rail owned cars. People are 12 times more likely to die in an auto accident than a rail accident. Those people are now at a greater risk than before but those deaths will never be attributed to the train crash. There will be consequences to acting as well as NOT acting. When factoring in the data about school closures and mortality rates, school closures are more harmful than helpful. So, how do we respond? - With data and evidence. We should judge policies based upon the evidence, not the intent. I am emailing the contacts at the UIL and the State the following links and a request to incorporate evidence into the decision to open our schools as soon as possible. Huffman reported 276 yesterday but I think that included Middle school and all sports.

I think there is a lot to be said for programs that are making these deep runs in the playoffs. The staff and the kids get way more football time. 5 extra games a year for Aledo plus all the practice time. But that is a massive percentage above regular programs. And Aledo just has to be attractive to 2-3 areas around them and then they could be pulling talent from a comparable large 6A talent pool.

1A – 5A FOOTBALL DIVISION I AND DIVISION II NUMBERS

Im not an expert on the alignment stuff. But...it looks like Bridge city will drop and Vidor will move in and that might be the only change to that district? -
Well, I am in Canada at the moment.

Huffman defense has had quite a few interceptions this year. They play the ball very well when it is in range. But they don't seem to have the top end speed to hang with a burner at WR and a QB that could drop in a dime.
-
As a Huffman fan, I am pulling for that L-Train big time!!! Anything can happen. Crosby beat Manvel, Stanford beat USC, and Trump beat Hillary....Lumberton can beat Carthage!!!
-
Yeah, it was a combination of weather and the opponent. It was pretty easy to stay home when it felt like Furr was a gimme. Me and the wife were there but if we wouldn't have found a babysitter, she probably would have missed. I would have went but her and the princess would have missed. But we will all be in Bryan, even bringing some people and meeting some In-laws at the game.
-
Ha! That perked up my ears too.

As cliched as it sounds, this is a different team than the team that started the year. I went to NC, Dayton, and the Willowridge game. The teams were different in all three. I have no idea what to expect. If they can play as well as they did against Willowridge and catch a couple breaks....basically if the Football Gods shine on Crosby instead of Huntsville...then they move on to Rd3.
-
Love seeing a Crosby team that doesn’t take their foot off the gas and plays some defense.
-
44yrd field goal. Helberg
-
As soon as I open my trap they throw on 1st
-
Willowridge gives away every first down. They run up to the line and try to run it up the gut uptempo and get stuffed. Makes now sense. maybe later in the game they will trick out of it. Dunno.

This is the best answer. It's their money. I don't understand why anybody would care how they spend it. My opinion has changed on this very little since BH hired Westerberg. He didn't get hired because he is a great guy and a wonderful mentor to young athletes. He got hired to win. So far he hasn't earned his check yet. But.... This is the year I think they are starting to get some return on that investment. My question is, and I don't have an answer, how much rope will he get at $154K if he stacks up a couple tough seasons after this one? He had some less than impressive seasons in the beginning but its "part of the process"...."programs take time to turn around"...all those comments. Now, ranked #10 in the state in their division, this is where they should be....at the moment. BH should be improving beyond the 1st and 2nd round in the next few years to justify that pay. But, like I said at first, it's their money. Fun to talk about is all.

Anybody ever done a comparison of before and after for Cal prep? I might whip out a spreadsheet and compare the prediction v. finals this weekend and see how it does. Site does have Huffman winning every possible matchup......Until Carthage...and then obviously the website is broken and can't be trusted from then on.
-
Just my wildly, future forecasting, opinion: Palestine or Life Waxahachie should be manageable. Will be a good barometer for Huffman. I think Henderson is going to Rd 3. That will be a hard opponent. If Huffman handles Henderson well.... Where was the Carthage game at last year?
-
Stranger things have happened. I was at that Crosby/Manvel game last year. If I would have put $1000 up for a Crosby win before that game, a lot of you guys would have jumped on it. Carthage has to make it to round 3 just like Huffman does. That is two chances for them to get shocked. (That is my Pie-in-the-Sky moment, leave me be.) The Huffman defense is good. Most of the points against them this year were against their backups. LCM put them on their heels with a pick six then a good drive but then HH shut them down twice with LCM having first and goal. I missed the Bridge City game so I can't comment there. But...correct me if I am wrong...the starting defense has given up 2, maybe 3 TD's all year. Is that right? Let me jump over there and look at the points allowed by Carthage this year.......never mind. (88pts allowed this season....yikes) Huffman is a better team than last year. They have to make it to that 3rd round too. Then it is going to be time to put up or shut up. It's a fun time of year, the only thing we know for certain....it will not go according to plan.
