Best athletes to come through SETX? Let me throw out some names: Mike Simpson from PNG. Robert Perry from Lincoln. Jeff Bergeron from PNG. Gary Hammond from TJ. Cotton Speyrer from TJ. Joe Washington from Lincoln. How many here have not heard of some of these? Again, it's a tough qustion to answer!

People's sense of history only starts when they were born. The question was: is this athlete the best to "ever" come out of SETX. Which this does include 1920. But, to say the best "ever"? Well, there's been a long history of athletes in SETX. So, with that in mind, I'm not sure this individual is.

When one picks this part out to comment on and doesn't touch the other part, well, then, it's called being on the losing end of the conversation. A coach creating or being essential to becoming a D1 athlete, as CardinalBacker said, is the same thing. There is a lot of ability out there that has not been developed. A "good" coach can realize this potential and "create" a D1 player. A bad coach cannot. Does anyone honestly think that talent just happens to show up at WOS year in and year out? How about Carthage? Aledo? Does one honestly think talent just "shows" up every year there? And no other schools in their districts ever gets any talent?? If so, now THAT would be the most delusional statement anyone would have seen here for quite some time.

I would swap to coaching first then players. We need to stop always blaming the kids for coaching failures. Does one honestly think that all those successful years WOS has enjoyed that Hooks and Thompson had nothing to do with it? That WOS ALWAYS had the players?? And yes, a coach can create a D1 player. No -- not all coaches can. That's why some coaches go throughout their career and never win a title.

Not sure what this has to do with the point I was making. If it was an attempt at it, please explain. To make another point: Those that defend bad coaching and coaches.will always blame the players/talent.

Maybe he's the reason they are D1. What in Westerberg's past would lead you to think he couldn't win a State Championship at BH. BH has won 2 Titles in the past so I don't see why they couldn't win another!
