Easy — they never had the fortune of hiring a Surratt or Buchanan. Carthage and Aledo wasn’t doing much of anything (zero State Titles) until these coaches came along. Regarding Huffman: I personally knew 2 of their coaches. And you can trust me 100% when I say they were “not” Championship type coaches!! How do you explain the downfall at Nederland? How about the downfall at WOS? How about the glory that’s happened to PNG. What affected these changes, talent or coaching? If one is being honest — I think the answer is clear! PS — It’s easy for coaches and their fans to explain away why some coaches stay for 22, 42 years and never make the big dance: they just blame the talent! Think about it, through all them years not one group of kids was talented?? Would you honestly believe that??!! PSS — one year Vidor had 18-20 returning starters and couldn’t do anything with it. Is it any surprise this coached ended his career with a losing record?!

Kinda where I’m leaning. If you have a potential all-state QB then it seems to me to take full advantage of it.

Interesting thought. Say a slot-t coach has a top flight QB. Does he stick with the slot-t or does he morph into something that that takes advantage of the QB’s skills? @navydawg31

Tell me if you agree with this: There are those here that says it’s about the talent and not the coaching. Therefore these same people feel that all coaches are the same. You know, they can be championship type coaches if they just had the talent. Now, it’s gotten to the point some say even Saban couldn’t win at Westbrook or United. So, here’s the amazing point: These same people are actually saying there’s no difference between Saban and the coaches at Westbrook and United! You know, it’s because of the talent. Thoughts?!

No, you are making assertions about Vidor’s previous history based on bad coaching. Since the late 70’s Vidor has hired only one decent coach. And he actually won an outright District Championship. Never done before and never done after. So — who are you actually blaming for Vidor’s past failures? The kids or the coaching?

No doubt in my mind they were saying the same thing at Aledo and Stephenville. Until the right coach came along!

Yes. But Vidor’s history of hiring coaches may have been the problem. Just say!

So, what you are saying is that the previous coaches couldn’t do it with this talent already on campus? So, then, you agree with me that it took a potential Elite coach to make the difference?!

Championship coaches usually win within 7 years. Do a little fact checking. But, again, there are only less than 10% active Elite coaches. Contrary to some beliefs, not all coaches have the ability to be championship coaches.

I did. I’m telling you there was no difference between those schools and the ones you are talking about. I guess you would say that at Carthage, Aledo and Stephenville that ANY coach could have accomplished the same thing that Surratt, Buchanan and Briles did. I think that would be highly improbable.

Do a little history check and see what these programs looked like before these coaches arrived. But remember, these coaches were not Elite when the arrived. They earned it!

They did exactly that at the schools they went to. A FACT! Now all of a sudden they can’t?

As I’ve stated many times, Elite status is what I believe. My success bar is higher than most.

Again, this is where we’ll disagree. It’s not about the talent pool. It’s about getting right coach. Will some teams ever get the right coach? No! We see that around here. Do a little study on how bad it was at Stephenville before Briles got there. Brownwood was the big dog. Then Stephenville won 4 Titles in 7 years. I wonder what Aledo’s history looked like before Buchanan arrived?

Well, how many do you think may have said the same thing about Carthage, Aledo and Stephenville before Surratt, Buchanan and Briles showed up?
