  1. This has probably been hashed out already, but. If you're a French graduate go you get to consider United your alma mater for purposes of basketball? I've been living in Silsbee for over 30 years but given the choice between United and Westbrook I'm United all the way.
  2. What about next year? Call me a Pollyanna but I think it will be a good year. Losing both inside guys is tough but I think our district will be somewhat forgiving of a lack of size and possibly the Region too, if you can make up for it with athleticism. Of course it's a bunch of teams and you don't know what's coming down the pike.
  3. I think Wheatley matches up pretty well with everybody left in Div II. They may just make it all the way. Seeing how Brock forced them into overtime in their Semi proving they're vulnerable. Any of the teams left can win it.
  4. We were just 6 points away from this being an all District 18 instead of an all District 20 affair.
  5. Interesting. Yates won the second district meeting played at Wheatley by 11.
  6. I don't like the Div I/II thing but I'm glad the so called seeding is dead. It wasn't seeding, it was nonsense. It works out to be one less game per conference in San Antonio, correct? Bad thing. Frequently the semi was more dramatic than the final.
  7. The difference seems to be that Tigers are missing more opportunities than Wheatley.
  8. I'm hopeful but I really don't have a clue. There are two many question marks. I wouldn't even venture to predict it will be a close game. One might beat the other by 20.
  9. And that. Bridge City had an 8 point lead on the Tigers at the half in their first meeting. They started to drop in the third. Silsbee caught up and went ahead. But the Cardinals, aided by being at home, doubled back down and refused to go quietly into the night. It was a 4 point game and the closest Silsbee came to losing a district game in years. And then Vidor actually gained the lead in the third quarter last Tuesday before falling by 11. So it doesn’t have to happen. The Bridge City /Yates game could go either way.
  10. And there was the 3rd quarter fade. Against high energy teams the 3rd quarter and early 4th can be decisive. As far as height goes, Bridge City has a kid who’s the same height as Rice and just as agile but not quite as good. And Vidor has one that’s 6-8. He’s just a sophomore and a pretty decent player. But he’s carrying too much weight and tires easily. He has a future if he really wants it. If he develops the others in 18 will have a tough time with him.
  11. Okay. That makes me feel better!
  12. One thing that stands out to me is Wheatley's 27 point win over Washington in their second district game. A two games later Washington beat Yates by 21.
  13. The third quarter will tell the tale. In both games against Silsbee BC played a good first half but faded in the 3rd quarter. The Cardinals will have to dig really deep or the same thing will happen in this game.
